BLU-RAY AND DVD
Eric Clapton’s lifelong passion for the blues burns brightly in Nothing But The Blues. The film - which was broadcasted once in the U.S. on PBS in 1995 and nominated for an Emmy® Award - has been upgraded to 4K for its long-awaited official release. Written and produced by Scooter Weintraub and executive produced by Martin Scorsese, the documentary includes an in-depth interview with Clapton conducted by Scorsese. Throughout the interview, Clapton discusses his love for the blues and the profound impact bluesmen like Muddy Waters and B.B. King had on his music. Many of those artists (Robert Johnson, Howlin’ Wolf, Buddy Guy, T-Bone Walker) appear in the film through vintage performances, interviews, and photographs. The film also features 20 previously unreleased live performances recorded in 1994 during the legendary guitarist’s tour supporting From The Cradle, his Grammy-winning, multi-platinum blues album.
SUPER DELUXE BOX
Eric Clapton’s lifelong passion for the blues burns brightly in Nothing But The Blues. The soundtrack features more than an hour of previously unreleased live performances recorded in 1994 during the legendary guitarist’s tour supporting From The Cradle, his Grammy-winning, multi-platinum blues album.
The Super Deluxe Edition comes with the documentary on Blu-ray, the soundtrack on both 2-LP vinyl and CD, a bonus CD with four extra tracks “Driftin’,” County Jail Blues,” “Kid Man Blues,” and “It’s Too Bad,” and an exclusive hardcover book with memorabilia, including a numbered lithograph, 12x24 poster, Clapton guitar string set, custom guitar picks, and an exclusive bandana.
2LP
Eric Clapton’s lifelong passion for the blues burns brightly in Nothing But The Blues. The 2-LP of the soundtrack features 18 previously unreleased live performances recorded in 1994 during the legendary guitarist’s tour supporting From The Cradle, his Grammy-winning, multi-platinum blues album. Clapton’s longtime co-producer, Simon Climie, has remixed the audio from those performances from the original multi-tracking recordings.
The previously unreleased live performances on Nothing But the Blues serve as a vital counterpart to From The Cradle, which was recorded in the studio. While several songs appear on both (“Motherless Child,” “Standing ’Round Crying,” and “I’m Tore Down”), the performances are entirely different. The release also includes songs that did not appear on From the Cradle, including Jimmy Rogers’ “Blues All Day Long” and Robert Johnson’s “Malted Milk,” as well as the standards “Every Day I Have The Blues” and “Forty-Four.”

I don’t care what anyone says about his Cream or Derek years. Clapton was at his absolute virtuosic peak in the late 80s-mid 90s. He got off drugs, dusted off his 335, and just let it freakin fly. Some of the best guitar playing you’ll ever hear.

I’m inclined to agree. It was his last, finest peak.

lotta accuracy in this comment. he peaked more than once and most peope do NOT do that. id say 68’ (you cant deny the final year of Cream), Layla Sessions, around 78’ and then again around 89’-95’. hes a virtuoso through and through

I heard EC in Pittsburgh in 2013. When I tell people I heard Clapton in his prime, they invariably ask, "When, in the Late Sixties?" My response is, "No, in Clapton's late 60's." As another poster said, EC has peaked several times. He may not be God, but his playing is divine.

I agree with you about the statement of Eric playing THIS song! But, I’ve been listening to and watching many other videos by Clapton, (I’m 67 and grew up with him so to speak) and this one is the ONLY one I’ve seen where I can honestly say that he puts his entire body and soul into it! Most of the time (and no criticism intended bc it makes me no less fonder of his playing) he plays rather ‘laid back’ and doesn’t emote like in this one. I absolutely ❤ this video!

I always felt that the 335 made him play his best stuff, the tone of this cherry red definitely inspired him. This is my favourite version of this song btw, closely followed by the 1996 Hyde Park version, but this one edges it. What I did love about the Hyde Park gig was how he went from Tore Down straight into Have You Ever Loved a Woman, it was brilliant.

I hope he 'll do because this is the holy grail. Filmore would close the circle of a 50 year career. This on of his best, a masterpiece of his blues. I never saw a better picture and sound quality of this version so we hope to have this on Blueray soon. You have to listen this on headphones; you can hear every single instrument playing....this is now rare to hear.

I never got to see this tour but followed what was happening the best I could thru VH1. They aired an hour long show of the tour rehearsal for the 1994/1995 From The Cradle Tour which I have watched about 50 times. I have listened to all of the live tracks from the shows at the Fillmore in San Francisco on RU-vid and never get tired of this era of Clapton. He definitely had all of his faculties about him when he quit abusing alcohol and drugs. The old fire was back and he played with the ferocity of that kid in his early 20’s that tore it up with John Mayall and made millions of young men want to pick up a guitar. So glad that we are finally going to get to watch this in updated and restored video. If this is any indication of what this will be like it is what many EC fans have been waiting for. This is THE tour and album where he showed all of us what got him so excited as a young man in England and helped to shape the future of the music industry. Once these English blokes got turned on by the American blues music from the Mississippi Delta, Chicago, Memphis, and other places the world would never be the same. And God bless them all for it.
