If it hadn’t have been for me seeing Eric live in 1984 as a 4 year old boy I wouldn’t have become a drummer and percussionist! He was my first true influence and watching this video brings back so many wonderful memories of seeing him at The Tower Ballroom on many a holiday in Blackpool! I was completely overwhelmed by seeing him as a 4 year old and from then all I wanted to do was pick up a pair of sticks and hit things ❤️
I was fortunate enough to sing with amazing guy in summer land Isle of Man. Skin deep was the highlight of the night or his ahhhh whilst he played. Amazing man amazing drummer. But most of all amazing friend I was fortunate enough to sing with ❤️❤️
I was lucky enough to meet both Eric and Andy Prior on a number of occasions in Blackpool. Eric was gracious amd kind enough to give my brother a pair of drumsticks just after I'd had a 'play' on the Mighty Wurlitzer with Phil Kelsall. Name drop over lol, a true musician and a 'proper' gentleman. Miss ya Eric.
Brilliant to see this video of Eric and a very young Andy Prior. What a brilliant band, great showmanship from Eric and entertainment that we need to see again in The Tower Ballroom.
I met him once & was chuffed to meet him in the very early 60's probably 1962 , he was the first person to tell me about the Beatles, a nice guy & one of my drum heroes RIP
My parents brought me to an Eric Delaney show in Summerland on the Isle of Man in the late 70’s. I was drum mad and was mesmerised with the kit, the showmanship and wall of sound! Thanks for sharing!
This guy did a fundraiser, for a church, in Blackpool. That was in 1984, and he had a fight with that enormous gong, getting it into a local church. He's also the guy, according to his wiki page, who played the opening theme for The Longest Day. #RIP
My wife showed me this video as she spent many weekends in the ballroom as a child and teenager when her dad did coach trips to Blackpool. She’s told me many times about going backstage every visit to see Phil Kelsall and Eric- both really lovely men who always had time for her (and even under the stage to sit on the Wurlitzer stool) whilst Eric was onstage. She said the sound was deafening! She loved every minute of these shows and Eric is sadly missed. The good old days of real entertainment in the Ballroom before appalling Merlin “entertainment” got their greedy hands on the tower, charged for EVERYTHING, including even sitting in the ballroom and more to go on the floor level as well as telling the musicians they have to just place ballroom music instead of the varied programs they used to do, including requests. Just shocking. What are they doing with this money as it’s not getting put into refurbishment? Strictly come dancing makes it look great with lighting but it’s not. The paint and wallpaper is falling off, the chair coverings are ripped, paintwork is scuffed and it’s just falling apart. People don’t go in now, used to be hard to find seats in the 70s and 80s, as it’s far too expensive and rapidly being run into the ground. Such a shame. Thank you for posting this video showcasing this fantastic musician.
This brings back some wonderful memories. I saw him possibly in this summer season when I was little. I met him with my dad after the show and he was just the nicest person. He had a great chat with my dad about a concert he’d played in Darlington in the 60’s. I still have my autographed album. Thanks for sharing
I had the privilege of knowing Eric in the mid to late 70's, he did three seasons at Warner's Camp, Minster, Sheppey. The first year he still had a beard and long hair. By the second season, he looked like this. To see him night after night performing was simply wonderful. Happy days and great memories of one of the greatest showman / percussionists ever .
I did support with this guy. I took along a drumist with electronic drums, just because Eric didn't have anything like that on stage. And there is a cardboard cut out stored in The Boot & Shoe Akworth
I saw him in around 2005, at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester. He was the "support" for another band, but he was as goood as this, he'd have been in his 80s.
This guy was one of my first inspirations. If it wasn’t for him, I may never have become a percussionist. Saw him a few times in Concert at Blackpool Tower Ballroom and met him at the bar afterwards. This video brings back so many memories!
I just stumbled across this through a recent mutual friend. Wow 😯 I worked with Eric for a week (on the same show) at a nightclub in Stockport but, I can’t bladdy remember for the life of me right now 🤷♂️🤦🏼♂️ Great showman, nice guy. I live in Dallas TX now. 👍🇬🇧
How long ago maybe I can help. I remember gavin on the saxophone the Scottish guy on trumpet Louise and I used to sing with him. Summer land Isle of Man. What a fantastic man he was. Sooo genuine
I saw Eric Delaney at the Helmaen club in Use, near Newport, South Wales in the early 70's. He was amazing a really true percussionist. Anybody out there remember that club?
Wow seen him at butlins skeknesst in 1980 wasn’t impressed when he came on stage me being 14 and a punk going on to joy division but was blown away by his skill and he won me over what a talent and by chance I was bored in the car tonight travelling home and asked Apple Music to search for Eric and was blown away by his back catalogue, it’s not my kind on music but you have to admire shear talent and he clearly had bags off it .
I was only a kid when I saw him do this kind of show at the Tower ballroom, I've watch a lot of bands over the years and whenever the drummer does a solo I can't help saying to myself he's good but hes no Eric Delaney. He made a big impression.
I also thank you for a rare view of music ,and also why amazing talent is never gets a chance. It seems strange the world knows about formulated bands before the British,Simon cowl is killing not with guns but sound and stabilization,a dog could sing with his tech.I love dogs just not the Satin cowl.
I had the great honor of meeting Eric at the Town in Benidorm. I am also a drummer and for me it was quite a revelation. Could you tell me the name of the songs? I am writing an article about Mr. Delaney's visit to Benidorm, but I don't know them all. Thank you. Pedro Delgado
Have watched Eric throughout his career in the big band era, but in this concert it was too much of Eric and not enough of the big band that complements him.
