Eric Gales is such a phenomenon that you can't help smiling from start to finish in all his videos just like if you were there watching it live, fantastic stuff, no bad day can ruin it...
bernhardtsen74 I saw him at the KeswickTheater in Glenside, PA outside Philadelphia with Indigenous, he blew me away. I bought his CD which he signed, and I've listened to it heavily ever since.
I love the way Eric just busts into whatever the fuck tune pops into his head. This is not planned, he doesnt practice these bits. SImply putting it, Eric Gales is the improvisation king. The dudes he plays with have to be some of the best, a lot of players would not like playing with Eric simply becasue he is so spontaneous, you never know what the hell song he might break out. One thing you can count on, it will be off the cuff, and brilliant. Awesome vid thannks for sharing Ben.
Again, I appreciate all those who watched this & showed my page some love. Not only that, but I was glad I hurried up & ate lunch for the day to get a spot ahead of time & record this very front row.
I remember seeing him play in a club in Corpus Christi TX many years ago, just after his first album, I believe he was 17 years old them. He was excellent them. I'm happy he's still at it. Look and sound good Eric. Keep on pickin' !
Pure Tears of joy! I Completely understand Eric's tears! His Freedom on the Guitar has brought me to tears many times. & This video is No exception! He's The GOAT!!🐐🎸🔥🤘🏾
Not too many Rock guys can improvise with such fluidity & ease in Today’s world! It shows great talent & expertise! This medium will keep true talent in check! Otherwise it would b lost forever, we should all feel grateful for this! Someday maybe the world will connect with the truth & we will all be better off as a society! 10/25/2020
eric is Santana's godchild for real Carlos is his godfather, and yea you troll around and find the 1988 school battle o t bands~I love his style and showmanship so honest and for real
Many thanks for sharing this. He is one of my all time favorites. I found about him through a friend only a year ago, and have been inspired every since. I know that spot in Memphis very well. Not for you sharing there is no way I would have experienced this, again thank you.
Saw him 1st time last night, been watching and listening to him like crazy, quickly fell in love with this mans talent and equally his energy just woww this dude lol shit he made me cry a couple times wow his spirit
Thank you for posting this! I've loved Eric Gales since my buddy turned me on to him at least a dozen years ago.God bless this man, cause he sure blesses God.
Y.w. Yeah that was a great day & I made sure to get a front row spot to it, as well. Also met him after the show-he's a great shredder & a nice man. Thanks to all for the views.
Saw him live when the Experience Hendrix tour came through San Antonio last summer. He did a duet with Eric Johnson that was the highlight of the show for me. He was out in the lobby between sets just chatting with folks, seems like a truly nice guy. Can't wait for another opportunity to see him again.
He was at a show while I was in Hot Springs Arkansas a couple weeks ago too (this video was 2014) The agony of not having a ticket beforehand...dude...
How ironic that I should stumble upon this video for the first time, just three days after seeing Eric 'live' in the UK. This guy is just fucking genius!
That's his wife Ladonna. Idk her personally, but she seems like a very nice lady. I met Eric himself that day, right after bein' front row to this show, & he's a good dude.
Even though he's not in the well-known mainstream like Slash, etc., that brotha's been a huge inspiration to me ever since the day I recorded this. "Hendrix Jr." in my book. Nothin' says "heart & soul" more than when he broke down on stage, but every second of this was worth makin' it to the vey front row too.
Ben Carroll Funny you mentioned Jimmi, who has always been my inspiration, because he played it upside down too. This cat right here, I had never even heard of before I accidentally found this video... He's special tho
+Lee Tate Nah, Hendrix restrung his guitar lefty but the instrument itself was upside down. Gales actually plays the instrument upside down because he didn't restring it.
actually Hendrix did it both ways, and at will, so does Eric Gales, yet not so much his brothers, family friends, they were shown a lot by Jimi and his cousin, we know as Guitar Shorty (read it in his CD sleeves, my expertise, haha)
dude is a beast his brother Eugene has a better voice but not sure there's a better guitar player alive today IMHO glad to see he has escaped his demons and is doing his music in his hometown he is more then a Memphis legend he is nation wide THANX for the post
I'm sure I heard a little AC/DC in that jam towards the end ! Another fine player who has a go at anything ! Has some great albums in his catalogue!! This man has a future indeed.
Wow. He just gives himself completely to the music. I was moved at how he got so touched at 2:50 that he couldn't go on for a bit. Some of it may have been related to being at home too. But man that's where it's at when it gets that good to you. Peace.
I know he's not quite as publicly well known artists with a lot of MTV airplay & such, but he puts a lot more passion into his music. The other guys who were there that weekend who fall into the mainstream category, seemed to play more in a style of "I just want to look cool", even though I still like some of their music too. I've had my share of 2:50 like moments at this same festival the last couple of years myself. Didn't cry, but almost did a couple of times. Had a lot of great artists blow my mind by the Mississippi River since 2012 & this brotha is one of 'em.
If there's two musicians that would make me cry for sure these are Eric Johnson and Eric Gales, Buckethead as well. I hope I can see them live someday. There's no problem in crying, it just shows you have a soul inside of you. Many people nowadays lost touch with their own souls, if they have any at all.
Wow! Something crazy just happened. A thought entered my mind about whether he played his rendition of the star spangled banner anywhere and just before I started to type it in the search box, I realized he was actually starting to play it!! That's crazy. I don't know what to say about that.
Thanks to his grandfather who was the one who introduced this tradition on the Gales family. He is not left-handed, he was just taught that way since day one.
Hes playing the strat upside down obviously....i wonder if it is strung as a right handed guitar as well? It appears so...great talent here....I am sure to hear alot more from this young man....Bravo....
thought something was wrong with me because the something happens to me when I hear certain songs or sing them. I'm a guitar player....unfortunately, never been brought to tears while playing. saw him as a 12 kid making with much older guys...it was on some morning talk show from the USA which aired here in Canada. he was OK. never would have imagined he'd become such a force on the guitar!!!! wow!! sad that he's not more widely known....
mrrusss Playing guitar that way must have inevitably shaped the original style he has today though. While I don't know if he'd be better or worse, he'd probably be a somewhat different player.
+mrrusss There's a whole story about that, I don't remember all of it but his grandpa introduced this lefty thing on the family, I guess Eric saw his older brothers playing like that and imitated them since day one.
I doubt it would've mattered much. He is well versed in all styles of playing including classical playing like that. Very few can incorporate as many styles of playing into their own music as he does. He's a monster in his own right, regardless of how he plays the thing.
dayum... 13.5k to my 750? just curious.... hell i redid the audio.. i DO NOT monetize the shit... mix our two vids together ya got some killer shit!!! Eric's a beast!!!!!!
