Thank you for the outline! It is a great aid to comprehension and retention to have such a tool, and I wish more discussions and lectures on the wonderful youtube media would provide them. What a font of knowledge, clear thinking, and common sense Hobsbawm was.

Thank you, I wonder what he would have said about Climate Change as part of this trajectory. As a Sub-Saharan African, we are clearly at the bottom of his list, lets hope that BRICs can offer some link to this global growth.

Western capitalist economy is incapable of dealing with any crisis. Eastern social economies are capable. The west has to change their systems to a social economy to survive. Hobsbawm did mention it at approx 42 minutes. US will likely resist by military means.

Eric has been long overrated. For example, UN estimate of reductions in world poverty have been surpassed, thanks to capitalism. He's too negative, clearly.
@marlonbryanmunoznunez3179
@marlonbryanmunoznunez3179 Год назад
Pfft. Those estimates for poverty reduction have been overblown for years now, to make neoliberal capitalism look better than it actually is. Most of it is very much the result of the Ascent of China, which incidentally never followed neoliberal diktats. Taking that into account the reduction in poverty, if any, is totally explained by technological advance, even though most of the earnings in what is now called the Global South were siphoned to the countries in the Western imperial core and in those countries from the bottom to the plutocracy at the top.

@@marlonbryanmunoznunez3179 No, no, these are UN figures; also, China is capitalist in the areas of growth.
