We're back with a new 3-part mini series! Join us as our dear friend and legendary guitarist Eric Johnson test drives several very unique guitars from The Vault at the Songbirds museum.
This third and final episode of the series shows Eric Johnson piddling around (aka beautifully riffing) on a one-of-a-kind 1967 Fender Marauder Prototype. It's a weird one, for sure! But these funky controls are no match for the legend himself.
Thanks so much for tuning into this Eric Johnson series. We had the best time making it with him. If you missed our first episode with Mary Kaye's Stratocaster, you can watch it here: • Eric Johnson Takes Mar... , and our second episode with Joe Maphis's Mosrite here: • Eric Johnson and Joe M... .

I actually did a smoothie strat with hot jaguar pups underneath, and love the way it sort of compresses the sound somehow. never knew they tried it

Fender should reissue this because it has amazing sound qualities and options. Maybe just rethink the controls to remove the switches out of the way

I am very confused by that guitar! It has some features on the neck that are very peculiar for a “1967”. There are two string trees, which I’ve never seen on any Fender guitar made before circa 1971-1972. Also, there is a walnut plug on the headstock. Fender necks made in the 1960s did not typically have this feature. Maple neck Fender guitars from 1967 had a separate maple fingerboard (“maple cap”), installed over the truss rod, negating the need for the walnut plug at the headstock. Is the neck on the Marauder from a different era than 1967? Or has the guitar been modified since then? Inquiring minds want to know!

Again 11 seconds of actual playing. What’s the point?

I’m guessing the point is to make us want to go to Songbirds Museum and see it in person.

@@vintagepipesnightmares It’s also a live music venue, and sometimes “these players” perform there, and other times they just happen to be in town for a performance somewhere so they stop in.

@@charlesbolton8471 I know I was wondering about the st”pid videos. About a few seconds of “ I don’t know how everything works on this guitar”

@@charlesbolton8471 Well, it didn't work. It actually had quite the opposite effect, on me anyway. I really wanted to like these guys, too, because they're so close to me, geographically. Seems like they're just greedy little shits. They have a program where they give "poor kids" guitars. But.....evey time that I check the program out, they have a room full of spoiled turds from rich parents.....with a POC sprinkled here and there for effect.
