Eric Lange Discusses His Role in "Escape At Dannemora"

"Escape At Dannemora" is based on the stranger-than-fiction account of a prison break in upstate New York in the summer of 2015 that spawned a massive manhunt for two convicted murderers. The prisoners were aided in their escape by a married female prison employee with whom they both became sexually entangled. Actor Eric Lange joined the BUILD stage to discuss the new Showtime limited series.

I've done some acting but more screenwriting and think your choice to pull pages of things that happened that Lyle couldn't know was so simple but such a genius choice for this character. As a writer, I would support that. It's even making me reexamine my process and approach to some scenes so thank you!

Forgot to add that I, too, Googled Lyle after a few episodes of thinking, ”Really?” : ) I also trolled Facebook after learning David Sweat has a new girlfriend. (As in now…2018, at least.) THAT was a trip down a rabbit hole I invite others to take. I won't put peoples names here but five minutes of searching and you'll find the public FB comments. The guy never had a chance…

I live where this happened and I have zero sympathy for her. She is the one person who could have stopped the escape and she didn't.

@@Jay1988k Most of all selfish. Cheated one husband and in mids of divorce took their kid from him by lying and using Lyle. Cheated Lyle and used prisoners for sex just because she was unhappy. Clearly pushed David towards sex even tho she is well above in prison hierarchy meaning she can make David fear of revenge if not complying (losing his job). Helped them fucking escape, willingly, even if them all 3 going to mexico would've been true and they would've loved her (no manipulation on her) it's still beyond dump and horrific. So she was willing to jepardize public safety and let murderers loose for her love. There was manipulation for sure on Matt and Davids end but she also is a selfish asshole and not a nice lady. Still to this day lying to Lyle, manipulating him.

Yes everyone that lived in the area at the time it happened felt bad for Lyle as well. I lived 20 minutes away from the prison at the time it happened.

i love this interview. lyle's character feels so real and understandable. eric plays hsi foolishness or "simple"-ness not only wholesomely but accurately. seeing the contrast of eric as a person just shows how real of a person he is himself and you can also see the type of reality he's able to understand and recognize in others.

Second to last episode is brilliant, you're rooting for these guys to escape the whole show until the 2nd to last episode where it shoes their crimes. Masterful series.

Lyle is a very kind person and he is not ignorant as the series portrayed him. He looked bad in his interview with Matt Lauer because he was nervous and had been going through so much. He is nothing like the "dorky" character that appeared in the series. He is for the most part very quiet and modest.

I think a lot of it was for comedy, the actors are tiptoeing around the fact that they are making fun of lyle, he already said the media ruined his life then ben Stiller goes and does this🤷‍♀️ Hollywood is Evil, and they all go and kiss each others asses for playing pretend, but a good movie

Lyle is portrayed as the only decent person in this entire story. If the real Joyce Mitchell is half as bad as the character Arquette played in this series, Lyle is much better off without her.
