It is tragic that the algorithms have recommended this to me a week after his younger bro also passed on. Such a strong character to handle all these tragedies at a young age.
"We need to create a safe space for our children to feel confident to talk to their parents". This is so true, suicide and drug addiction are at an all time high in the young of Kenya.
My elder brother, got entangled with drug addictions, once a very gentle, peaceful and happy guy became a liar, violent, started stealing from us to satisfy his urge overnight. I tried to speak calmly, cried, fought him but all to no avail. I and my parents had to take him to countless rehabs and churches, which most of them took advantage of my moms vulnerability to extort us. After 6 years, we redeemed him but i'm still suffering from the psychological trauma of ever having my family go through such a disgraceful moment, selling all we got, left Nigeria for Euorpe to struggle in the cold, just to spent it on rehabs for years. My relationship with him got affected badly right now, struggling to forgive him but it will happen with time. Pls, my youth. Stay away from drugs, alcohol or any lifestyle that will hurt people that loves you. Don't fall for peer pressure cos when the ship starts sinking, those friends will abandon you to die in the street. If you have any family member going through, pls stay strong and dont give up on them so fast, may God strengthen you and hasten the solution for your family.
Thank you so much Eric for letting us into your personal space. We need to have more of these conversations. "Let's create a culture where our children can freely talk to us about these things" . As always, sending you alot of love and light.
I.have seen alcohol and drugs cause chaos in my family ,I've watched it riun our future and tamper with our upbringing ,Eric thanx for creating awareness to the youth
My bro is addicted to alcohol,he went to rehab but i think he is relapsing,he is a doc and is almost losing his job ,your comment scared me alot ,i hope he gets better
@@samwanyoike193 I know a few docs (surgeons) who are struggling with drugs and alcohol from West Africa. They go through a lot their career is not something to admire
One of the greatest pain as a family is to witness the downfall of a family member especially from addiction or mental health disorder, many time the society is so quick to point fingers accusing the family of neglect yet little do they know the pain, struggle and effort, money and time family of addicts puts. Like Eric rightly said the choice for change depends entirely on the addicts.
Exactly.....it is so hard when people say how can you look like that and your person looks homeless and dirty. It is hard because their condition reverses efforts.
Respect for you Eric.i lost a famous uncle in tanzania called Chuchu the founder of inachuchustyles, heartbeat records and chuchu fm because of heroine.coming out and talking makes me have the upmost respect for u.watu hawaelewi how we live with our addicted brothers and sisters. My uncle left a son who is also an addictand people say were neglecting him but the truth is these things are killers..that one puff can ruin ur entire life.

This is so incredibly sad. I'm in tears. I'm a big fan of Eric and now you've shown us another side of your personal life which is deeply saddening. You have all my prayers and best wishes for you and your family. You will rise to greater heights with your enormous talent. Love you always.
Wow thanks for sharing. Here in the US it is so bad, so many Kenyans get addicted due to the need to escape dealing with racism an culture shock. My bro has been addicted for a while, my family back home pretend like he is not, now I’m the bad guy for cutting him off financially and forcing him to go to rehab. One addicted sibling can really tear apart a family or sometimes make them closer. I pray for anyone dealing with this ❤️
Sending my condolences to you and your family, I can't even begin to imagine how hard this was for you to be successful and have yoir brother going through addiction and on top of that have people abuse you /judge you for "not helping" eish pole
Your story is very touching, I’m going trough the same with my brother. What I learned from U, you can force them for help if they aren’t for. Just pray for miracles. We are millions going trough the same. Thanks for honesty 🙏
I'm currently losing my brother because of drugs. In addition to recently smashing windows and breaking my stuff, he beat me up and I was like wow (had got mad, shouted and complained to him about his drug problem)! Calling home to explain the situation, Dad was not moved. My parents do not want to accept the severity of the situation despite all what I've told them. Now my parents say I'm disturbing them, my brother hates me coz I'm telling my parents about his business. I've since kicked my bro out of the house. I cannot stand seeing him going down the drain under my roof. I've washed my hands and left it to the good lord to handle the situation.#I'mOut
Wow! all I can hear is I'm snitching on my brother behind my back! Have you tried talking to your brother yourself? I am a recovering addict and if I was in your brothers shoes,I'd not only smash your windows! God knows what more I'd do! If your helping someone, help them in silence sio kupelekea every tom dick and Harry kimbelembele nkt!
sharlynne wanjiru are you blind?he clearrrrrrrllllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy says he tried talking to him butttttt he beat him up wtf do you mean snitching sasa now telling his parents about their sons addiction is snitching??/????come on your reasoning is buffling
@@Annierukenya Hey Annie, thanks for your concern. and no he has not been to rehab. i often send him back to shagz coz there he definitely has no access to any kind of drug and he's under constant watch
I have a cousin facing the same challenge but it's painful watching him waste his life away, I just pray God remembers him because he has escaped death countless times
a few weeks before his brother died i remember a thin man of the same stature and dressed in the same clothes that he was found with entered the bus i had boarded in Nairobi on my way to meru and began begging for cash to go and buy medication he had been prescribed to take. from the good english he spoke i knew he was well educated. he said that one dose costed him ksh 200. i felt so sorry for him coz he was shivering and looked so thin and sick. it never occured to me that he was a cocain addict and a brother to kenya's celebrated comedian. so sorry for the loss.
Addiction pushes them to lie through their teeth. I found it interesting that after all he’d gone through with him he still believed him when he told him he’d come back the next day to be taken to rehab…
Eh mbona amebadika. haraka eh nilijuwa hii kitu yamuumiza ndani kwa ndani soooomuch sad tuombeeni our best 👌 brother Eric omondi mungu atuepushe na mabaya yooote in Jesus name AMEN 🙏
I totally feel you Eric, our parents almost think their kids are saints out here because the room for conversation on alcohol and substance use is inexistent in most of our culture.
Why this story been on my recommended to watch but I want to tell bbc my story but they don’t want to reply to me. N my story gonna change the world. Jeeez
Interview Kenyan photographer Stephen Maithya of Stevenchy Photography. Find him on Facebook at Stevenchy Photography; IG @stevenchy_photography. His story is very inspirational.
I found out my brother does coke. And he got so pissed and starting screaming in my face with rage! He kept saying cocaine is not a drug, very safe, everyone does cocaine in the world. My mom responds with who cares “ I have done cocaine and your sister” they both kept saying cocaine is not bad! I am so confused!
Honestly,we need to save and pray for our young generation.People are losing their sense of belonging to drugs, depression and some even commit suicide(2 incidents happened earlier last month in Jkuat juja). We should learn to love ourselves again. Also, let's not get drawn to the western culture as much. What happened to Eric's brother is just one among so many other sad instances affecting our today's society.Lets create awareness and help others as well.
i feel erick,i have a brother who is alcoholic hope one day he will come back to senses,we have tried talking to him and even denying him money bt all in vain
What a pop up on my feed, sorry Eric about the loss of your brother. Is it the camera because both of you look older here, 5 years ago. I noticed the girl from this is related (Sharon) also looks older here than now.
Mylast born brother currently using bhangi and alcohol...i feel like taking him to police and he get jailed for 1yr😂😂😂😂😂😂😂...i feel extremely bad hope God intervenes
Eric o ghai pole.. 🤔 But we unateuka Hennessey.. Also my brother his soo cool but his an addict.. Hua na feel aky.. War ching from abudhabi.. In fact he was affected kidnay but I help him.. I know venye unasema.. Xo painful
So sorry...there was nothing you could have done other than what you did for him. He also wanted to be well so bad, believe me, but he just couldn’t because he was bound. Being a peddy is the worst!
This is not talked about much but Tanzania and Kenya yell even Uganda have a serious drug addiction problem. TZ particularly has a very bad herion addiction problem
Let's SHAME the drug lords who're making our brothers and sisters perish 1. Hassan Ali Joho 2.Kabogo Gitau William 3.Harun Mwau 4. Ndegwa Muhoro ..........
