@Juggernaut560 0 seconds ago I think that people are missing the point of the ending. It is framed as a happy ending but is anything but. While Edgar, the son’s version of Eric is a jovial, bright character he thought up for the show Good Day Sunshine, it is drastically different from Vincent, the father’s version. His is a representation of his subconscious. His version is all of the bad parts of himself. His Eric embodies his disillusion, contempt and anger brought on by his abuse of alcohol and drugs The final shot of Vincent’s subconscious version of Eric watching over Vincent and Edgar connecting after Vincent has been trying to get clean alludes to the possibility of Vincent’s repressed bad habits coming back. Although he has made the effort to change and create a new start, a lot of addicts eventually relapse.
