I'm a huge fan of this film and noticed this short conversation with M J Fox about the film and his role in it is not available on this platform so thought I'd upload it for other fans of Michael J Fox and the film Casualties Of War itself. Please remember to like and Please also check out the other similar video I have uploaded which is a general 'Making of Documentary' about Casualties Of War with Brain De Palma.
I do not own any of this footage and no copyright infringement is intended, all rights belong to the original producers.

Thuy Le really breaks my heart in this film. What is so amazing is that she was not an actress, and this was the only film she ever did. Award or no award, she deserves so much honor for the courageous and very believable role she portrayed. I just wish there was at least one interview of her talking about this film.

Yep I read a few of her promo interviews she did for the film, De Palma told her he would help her get future work if she wanted to continue with acting but she declined (as you mentioned she was focusing on her family life) I read she also got offered a part in the 1992 film Indochine which she turned down as I think she had just had her first child at that time. Also someone told me that Oliver Stone wanted to cast her in his 1993 film Heaven And Earth but by that time the casting people couldn't even get a hold of her. Just a real shame we didn't see more of her, would loved to have seen her give a recent retrospective interview of her experience with the film.

What bothers me is the fact that something like this probably happened many many times. And those sick deprived men went home, married and had children. And they will never know that their beloved father is a sadistic rapist. To kill as a soldier is one thing, but raping and murdering innocent people is just beyond sick.

not to play devil's advocate but is anyone really surprised situations like this happened in real life? these men were sent overseas to serve as killers, many of them drafted, and time after time they were continuously spat on by their neighbors, maybe their family or their communities and were never given the proper support they needed even in country by their own government or by the army or marine corps...eventually you just break down and you give in to the animalistic killer you've been trained and lead to believe you are, compounded with the personal loss of a close friend like meserve and brown and it's no surprise that rape or murder happens i absolutely agree with you but at the same time steps need to be taken so that situations like this don't happen again and simply throwing everyone away into a cell that partakes in such an awful act isn't the right path if you ask me
@KahinAhmed72
@KahinAhmed72 Год назад
@@Rogue_Nine416 Then what is? What’s the best way to prevent a situation like this from happening if you can’t report to your superiors? Sure, war can be prevented but as long as corrupt politicians exist… that’s not happening. The US going to the ‘Nam didn’t need to happen but the president thought otherwise. What would *you* have done if your teammates graped someone?

I was an 'extra' in this movie. Did a lot of the 'grunt shots'. I ended up in the courtroom scene as the 'stenographer'. Michael used to sit on the desk and keep his cigarettes in the drawer. You know he'll always be Marty McFly to me, so this movie initially came to me as kinda shocking to see him in a serious role. Saw the movie for the, I dunno, 5th time a couple of days ago. Still blown away from Penn's performance. I now understand the negative reviews it received bc we were all expecting Platoon/Rambo/Hamburger Hill type good vs bad type stuff. I think Michael J. Fox was right when he said Eriksson was not a hero. He was supposed to save the girl from the rape but he could not, so he focused instead in trying to help her after, looking for a redemption that really never came. Thats why he persisted so much in going to trial and getting a bit of his humanity back but he was not heroic in the sense that he wanted to be. I always thought this when i watched the movie, always cursing him for not saving her or at least trying to.

I can say many good things about the Brian De Palma-directed drama thriller war flick that is Casualties of War - only thing I can say is Michael J Fox completely broke typecast by playing a Vietnam war veteran who’s life changed for the worse the moment his unit engaged in sexual assault and murder of an innocent girl whilst on Hill 192 during the Vietnam war. He broke my heart with his astonishing performance showcasing heroism and masculine vulnerabilities as the guy who said no to be part of a grizzly crime like this. The fact that De Palma casted him really shows that he looks at things in off-centre in a good way when it comes to actors in his works. Even though I’m happy that he’s waging war against Parkinson’s disease with his Michael J Fox Foundation due to fact his career has been permanently cut short thanks to the Parkinson’s disease he has to deal with, I give anything to live in a world where Michael J Fox carried on acting had he not had Parkinson’s (he still gets to have his Foundation regardless). In this world if he did Casualties of War, he would’ve starred in the Antoine Fuqoa-directed Tears of The Sun as US Navy Lieutenant AK Waters (instead of Bruce Willis), heck even appearing in the Ridley Scott-directed Black Hawk Dawn as a Canadian marine - poor guy will go from being the Teen Wolf/Family Ties guy to being Marty McFly to being a bonafide war film star - being in same category as the likes of anyone whose names are popular that’s been in war film or multiple like Josh Hartnett, Ewen Bremner, Tom Sizemore, Jason Isaacs, Tom Hardy, Sam Worthington, Brad Pitt, Mark Wahlberg, Tom Hanks etc Band of Brothers would be more awesomer if Michael J Fox was in it as a general or a colonel.

You can see his Parkinson's starting to show in this interview. Does anyone know how long this interview took place after the movie finished filming?

I was on this set in Phuket 1988. I ate Pineapple with Thuy! Sean Penn wasn't the 'bad ass' he was portrayed to be !

Was it ever verified if there was actually beer around that area laced with formaldehyde? Fox makes a comment about this in his first book.
@senianns9522
@senianns9522 Год назад
@@the90schild1 Thai Beer 'Singha' reputedly contained high amounts of Formaldehyde as it was transported and stored in many different parts of Thailand. Due to the possibility of the beer being stored in ambient or hot areas (Non cooled or chilled). The bottles were made of brown glass to offset UV . Remember some of these beers could sit for months in storage in those pre 'bar coded' or QA/QC days!
