did all this yeaterday, it's hard. especially when you're trying to consume your air, you want to breath deeply soo bad and catch your breath.. it sucks but it's training you to be a firefighter. #femalefighter
Yes in Orange County NY we did this same course. I went through my first evolution, then had to do the force entry 20 times, search the room twice over, then had to wait for someone on the stairs, preventing me from my third evolution. consume your air smart and you can do this cake walk three times over.
Andrew Tarasoff I did mine this past spring under the new course in Westchester NY and had to do this. This was the first set of skills we had to do. If we couldn't pass this, we failed the course.
Mostly yes, I'm currently in FF1. Obviously it will vary on your instructor and training grounds but we did ours just last month and it was pretty close to this, we just don't have such a well equipped training grounds like this. (Eastern Pennsylvania)
Krissy Costanzo I was apart of one of the first in NYS for the new format this past spring. The TOAC isn't bad. You'll be dead by the time you get to the dummy drag, just lean back and use your legs. Be sure to learn your knots. The handcuff knot, bowline, figure 8's ( bite, follow through, bend and 8), and your clove/half hitches. Practice mask confidence and doing left/right handed searches if you can.
+speedball10169 lean back and use your legs for the dummy drag? Like.... go backwards? I'm 110 lbs and we have a dummy my size at the hall and it was a struggle to drag that one! My TOAC is this week. Keeping my fingers crossed!
+Krissy Costanzo Yea because you're going to be dragging it so you'll be walking backwards. use the weight of the dummy to counter your weight when you lean back. You have to drag it up 1 length and then walk around a cone with it and go back the other way with it. Another tip I can give you is to learn to inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth. You'll consume less air by doing that. When doing the roof simulator, use your legs and get your body into it. If you just use your arms, you're not going to complete it.
+speedball10169 that's good advice. I noticed the technique of the ceiling push is bend at the knees and cup the bottom of the tool with your hand and push up with your legs. I will definitely have to do that. For the pulls, it looks like i'll try to throw most of my body weight down into the pull. I'll try to do something similar when starting the ladder raises. How is the maze part? Looks a little tricky...
+Krissy Costanzo Mask Confidence? It gets tricky. They have the ability to change the course every time you go through so you can't memorize it. The first time you go through you'll be able to see everything but after that you'll be blacked out. You'll have to do a reduced profile, full escape and probably entanglement at some point but that last part won't happen right away.
youre only allowed to go with 30 minutes of air for this portion of class. Just completed this class a couple months ago and had to do this. 45 min get bled to 30 minutes.
made it around this course 2 1/2 times. I completed this class about 2 months ago. It wasn't difficult if you pay attention and do as they tell you. Its fun once you get into the live burns. They will sit the entire class in the burn room so you can get an idea for how thermal layering works in a structure.
+Savannah Corlew Harris I passed! It was gruesome and I was sore for about a week after. I didn't expect to strain my forearms/elbow during the backwards dummy drag... but that gave me real problems during the ceiling push/pull station because I had no grip left! I managed to recover enough to complete that final station successfully and pass. It took me almost 10 minutes exactly to complete the TOAC.
