If the refs made the right call the first time this wouldnt have been possible but having to turtle after making that hit is brutal! He got it worse by not fighting back forsure.
I remember seeing Jim Cummings turtle back in the day at the pond. I forget who it was but someone picked him up off the ice and wanted to fight him but then he just fell down and turtled like the bitch he is 😂

Cousins turtled twice instead of at least trying to defend himself. I have more respect for Alex Semin who at least did something, even if it was a slap fest back in the day.

There was an easy fix to this: 5 and a game for Cousin for the boarding that started the whole thing, 2 for roughing and a 10 minute misconduct for Gudbranson and done. Cousins is out of the game, no need for suspension, and Gudbranson gets time to cool down and you go back to hockey. Very Poor Officating. Not a fan of either team.

Poor officiating. Cousins should have been given a game misconduct on that dirty hit. Since the game was in Florida and with poor attendance it was in the NHL best interest to keep the "star" player in the game.
Gudbranson got up pretty quick after the whistle, after "acting" knocked out. Still cousins should have got tossed for that hit, the second altercation does not happen if Cousins is tossed. That's on the refs though.
When a guy tries to hurt you on purpose and you know precedence is a small fine then you have to make sure they know you'll hurt them. If they don't care then you hurt their teammate and tell them it's because of their buddy's actions. This is the basis of the real "code"
Its players like cousins who would have been little squeaky mice in the old NHL. If they have to answer for their actions they'd be made into the turtles they are EVERY game. Gudbranson is an old school, take no shite kinda guy. Cousins = Meow!

If they ever make "Fastest Turtler" an All-Star Game skill competition, nobody could hit the ice and cover their face faster than Cousins. In our analytics-obesssed world, I'm sure there's a telemetry stat somewhere that could confirm it. Regardless of anything that Cousins did to deserve retribution from opposing players, the most dishonorable aspect in all of these events is the sheer, disgusting speed at which he hits the ice and covers himself.
Maybe im just old fashioned but we were always taught to not use our backs to sheild along the boards against the forecheck cuz u can see he makes contact with his left shoulder into his right outside shoulder but hes turned himself to face the boards Still think its a penalty obvs but guys are putting themselves into dangerous positions unnecessarily
What should have happened is they should have squared off and fought off a draw. Not getting jumped and turtling. Case in point was Dwight King answering the call and fighting after boarding petreangelo. That ended it.
I like how Gudbranson handled it - assuming he asked Cousins to answer the honorable way but after saying no his only choice was to take matters into his own hands. Cousins would have been better off it the refs just gave him a major and the game.
If the refs are not willing to do their job and call it for what it is suppose to be then that is the net result. That one is on the refs not the player so that one game should not have happened.
I don't understand why the refs seemed to back florida all the time. Cousins should have been thrown out for that hit and bennett was third man in on two separate occasions and didn't get thrown out.
