Erik Meyer-Helmund (St Petersburg 1861 - 1932 in Berlin) was a Berlin-based composer and singer. His song "Flirtation" was recorded by John McCormack, and his "Gute Nacht, mein holdes, süßes Mädchen" by Nicolai Gedda and Fritz Wunderlich. Helen Tretbar translated several of his lieder from German into English.
Pupil of Friedrich Kiel and Julius Stockhausen.
Operas „Die beiden Klingsberg“ and „Der Liebeskampf“

Nicely played. I always knew this as Elegie. I think it's the first classical piece I learned as a late starter in high school way back in the '60s.

It's incredible that an amateur pianist is able to record all this music so frequently, to such a high standard. I appreciate it's not always all perfect, but you must be an incredibly talented sight-reader! I hope more musicians come to discover this channel.

@@engloute absolutely! but even the fact that the recording quality itself is so high quality is incredible! Checking earlier videos, it's clearly gone through stages of improvement but even when it's apparent lower quality equipment is available, it's still the best quality it can be for what's available at the time. I know everyone who comes to his videos appreciates everything that he does, but I can't emphasize enough just how impressive this content output is. I don't know any professional musicians who can produce an output like this.

My feeling is that Julian is providing here a legacy or archive for the future. Some, if not most of this music will be lost (more than it already is) to future generations. Long may he reign!

The best thing to me was the frequent spots where the music showed a single note in the right hand with a rest in the left. So many pianists, including professionals, would have pedaled right through those and ruined that eerie breath. You let those notes be shown off the way they should have been.
