I’m not a grappler but followed Erik and tony for years. Tony’s videos are great for beginning grapplers. I have his dvds and Tony’s for my 6 yr old to learn from.

Erik was one of my instructors, great guy, amazing teacher. And yes, I totally relate. I was working out all day and night too ,30+ years ago, fighting and street fights. I was superman. I'll be turning 60 this year. My ambition is to be able to walk and hike without pain! My how the tables have turned!

Awesome having these two giants get together on here. Hilarious that at the end 1:35:00 mark, both guys are essentially talking about the essence of ninpo. Being prepared in the areas you are familiar with, improvising in the places you are not familiar with. Then a little nod to metsubushi " blinding powder" all be it a modern way to carry it. These two are top of the catch / reality chain.

I think there is a lot of crossover between Catch and how ninpo approaches grappling. I've seen pics and vids of ninpo practitioner using what Catch wrestlers would call rips, and even a stepover toe hold.

@@josephc7232 I'm familiar with what you are talking about but that is more compression on the leg and less focus on the ankle. The ones who use the toe hold or do any ankle work, have probably studied some catch :p. I'm an example of that. The ripping is taught in ninpo but the control on the ground is very limited. But that said, catch integrates beautifully because of that reason.

Great Interview. Hopefully we’ll see more bjjfantics videos with Tony. Maybe Eric and Tony can work together in a collaboration type of thing.
