I always wondered if Miles Davis was influenced by Satie. In the music of both, I have to listen to the silences between the notes. Try Miles' music of the 1950s, for a comparison with Satie.

Ce Paris a été détruit, il n'existe plus que dans les souvenirs, qui vont bientôt s'éteindre, des plus anciens, et dans les arts qu'il a tant inspirés. Je me souviens du Paris des années 60, il y avait encore une âme qui flottait dans les rues, mais maintenant... Il y avait les petits commerçants, des artisans, les bouchers des halls à quatre heures du matin... Les petites rues qui ne portaient pas encore des noms d'hommes politiques, mais des noms du vieux Paris. Quel gâchis ! Quelle nostalgie... La France se meurt. C'est terrible de voir un si beau pays, que l'on a tant aimé, où l'on est né, où l'on a vécu ; de le voir se décomposer sous nos yeux et savoir qu'il va sombrer dans la misère du tiers-monde comme le reste de l'Europe occidentale.

Essa música me deixa angustiado, querendo reviver uma época que não vivi; sumir daqui e aparecer no meio desses quadros como uma pessoa daquela época para saber como foi a vida de qualquer uma daquelas pessoas. Uma sensação estranha; agradavel e platônico por saber que essa ida ao passado não vai acontecer. Quem foi aquela senhora com o cesto de flores? quem foi o cavaleiro puchando os cavalos? Como seria interessante conversar com eles.
