It's supposed to give you nightmares xD Tbh - pretty impressive that a piece from 1782 can touch one's emotions that much without any "special effects" and shit like that, innit? :P Both Goethe and Schubert cannot be praised enough for this masterpiece.
Im really wierd. I cry when i listen songs but usually rock songs lol. Even some metal makes me cry lol somekind of thing screams from my inside. Wut exactly is this
I will never forget my music teacher playing this classical piece for my class in early elementary school. Complete with telling us the backstory behind it. He was absolutely incredible at telling stories and I remember being mesmerized and terrified by both the music and story. One of the earliest things that instilled my love for the horror genre.
@@jm6456 if i rember a boy was very sick and the father was going with him to a farm house and the elf king and quinn where trying to take him and got him
@@jm6456 its a poem of Goethe. Its about a father desperateky trying to bring his son home as the child is slowly dying. The Elf king represents death chasing after the boy
This was actually...really amazing. The art direction was good, as well as the transitions, and the art style combined with the grittiness of the sand made it just disturbing enough to haunt my memories. Good work!
@@raawesome3851 To have an art director you need a team of artists to direct. Unless art direction means something else, I can't believe I have to explain the obvious.
how precisely German this poem is it's written by Goethe with music by Schubert dark and gorgeous from beginning to end a ride of anxiety that ends in tragedy it leaves me wanting to ride it again the sand art does the poem justice
@@tttttt2244 The erlking was not kind, not at all, EDIT depending on how you look at it the song is an allegory warning either of illness or pedophiles, so no, not kind
@@ymaysernameuay1113 a few people have commented that. The Father is not neglectful, he cares for his child. I hate when people comment that he is neglectful, he (imo atleast) is not. He tries to calm down his child, and tries to get him home to safety as quickly as possible. The Father is not neglectful.
I absolutely adore this. I love the intensity of the song, the gorgeous visuals, all of it. One great moment is when the Erlking actually attacks the child, and we see the only instance of color in the entire animation.
Damn....not to trivialize how incredible this music is, but I have the flu, a fever, & my daughter made me watch this...... Redefines traumatic fever nightmares, lol!😍
in childhood in the Soviet Union, this song, like Goethe's work, was in the compulsory school curriculum. she made a frightening impression on me and still scares me
@@tdog7326 he was indeed. Goethe was classical as well in poetry this is not romantic by any means. I go to a German school and we do German poetry in depth now and Goethe wrote poems in the Sturm und Drand and the classical period. I also play the piano and I have a degree. Now I am preparing for a diploma and I am learning this piece but the solo version from Liszt
my theory is, that the child was sick, and was being taken to the nearest doctor, and you know those hallucinations you have with fevers? i think that’s what was happening.
The gifted. As a classical musician/composer. It was the first time to hear it in the series. I like the slow music box version more... Highlights the harmony way better... Worth pondering!
The density of art is shooting through the roof on this thing. First a 1st class poem, then a 1st class composition. Add a 1st class recording and then an amazing artwork. My brain can barerly cope with the stream of impressions.
watched this video in german class a few years ago & forgot the title of it, finished watching over the garden wall today & it reminded me of this video, then reading about fan theories for otgw I was reminded of the title of the poem. What a weird and coincidental way to find this video again
Original----------------------------------------------------------- Wer reitet so spät durch Nacht und Wind? Es ist der Vater mit seinem Kind; Er hat den Knaben wohl in dem Arm, Er faßt ihn sicher, er hält ihn warm. "Mein Sohn, was birgst du so bang dein Gesicht?"
I’m learning about the Romantic Period in Music Appreciation and my teacher played this when talking about Franz Schubert. The art and music is haunting yet breathtaking.
This is terrifying and suspensful. It keeps me at the edge of my chair but I absoulutely love the artwork. I am also 10 years old and I have to watch this as part of my music history homework. I still can't believe how amazing the animation is.
@@kurbikiscool I'm German as well. "Ruhig" means BOTH "quiet" AND "calm" but it's the context that makes the difference. "To be quiet" means to make no noise by speaking or in a different kind while "to be calm" means to relax. Like "sei leise" and "sei entspannt" don't mean the same thing.
This video is amazing! The art, the sound, the piece! Thank you for sharing this amazing video here. I teared up by the ending 🥹 It was so sudden and full of sorrow, I was so scared and sad, even though I knew the ending, but I couldn’t stop my hopes 💔
I love this story so much, for the underlying, or maybe overlying? theme that the father is taking his sick child through the woods, and the erlking that the boy sees may not be a malicious spirit but delirium from an illness. But at the same time, it could very much be a spirit and the more the boy pays attention to it the more power it has to tear him away. Either way by the end he's dead, but the story is enchanting.
I mean when you know the story it really doesn't fit with the show's plot, so far no kiddies getting stolen and raped in The Gifted, but still cool piece
AeneasGemini actually it does, technically, the music follows by how Lauren and a Andy have this dark powers from their family and it carries on , the parents of Andy and Lauren are warning them of their powers and if they keep on with their dark powers the parents are scared it could leave them to destroying themselves . Another theory is that when the dad explained about how the song is about an evil force that evil force can symbolize the powers that Andy and Lauren possess and that they are mutants and in the song the father ignores the child, what the child thought he felt or saw was make believe and the father didn’t believe him until he died . And if Lauren and Andy parents fail to ignore the “dark force” of their powers it can destroy them leading them to their death. Lauren realizes the song activates her powers stronger ,a connection between her great grandmother , that’s how she learned about her new ability to control her powers like a disc. Or another theory is that the great grandparents were murders and so they knew of the “dark path” of their powers , now from the letter of Anderas is convincing the family members to possess that powerful power that Andy and Lauren have , the great grandparents were dark powerful mutants , now the parents know that what Lauren and Andy possess is dark and they don’t want them to end up hurt or killed. That’s all of my theories that can connect to the song . It’s all symbolic .
@@coral_870 Well listen, I'm sure you can stretch the symbolism to fit the show if you like. But the fact is that the original story is an obvious allegory for pedophilia, and that just doesn't work. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they included it (it led me to discover this piece!), but if you sand off the edges of a square peg to fit a round hole is it still the same square peg?
this was buried in the depths of my freshman brain and 5 years later it popped up in my head and i cOULDNT find it but it just came up on my recomended so thanks fbi man
My music teacher played this song when i was in elementary school i finally found it after years of searching ,looking back at i don't understand why he played it, but i been so eager to find it
