My first ever visit to the ROH was to see Il Trittico in 2016, and I was absolutely captivated by Ermolena’s performance as Sister Angelica... my first discovery of how powerful and emotional an opera can be. I was hooked after this, and have since been back to the ROH many times. I was privileged to hear a solo recital by Ermolena at the Wigmore Hall in February, shortly before lockdown. It was wonderful. I really look forward to hearing her again at the ROH again in future. Ermolena is such a superb actress, as well as singer. Thanks for this interview.

A lovely interview, with some glimpses of Jaho's sheer artistry. We saw her in Suor Angelica first time round, and her conviction and emotion in that role were palpable. Now we know something of what lay behind that formidable performance. Thank you.

Life without music would be just a shadow of the real thing. I feel sorry for those who do not experience the deep emotions it induces. It encompasses everything from pop, jazz & sacred music, to opera. I wish people would open their minds & ears to its' immense variety, whether as a listener or a singer.

Love Ermonela Jaho in any role, but her most passionate and moving, for me, was in Suor Angelica(ROH). She gave an unbelievable and unforgettable performance! So happy she is today’s guest! Thank you Maestro Pappano for this wonderful session!❤️🌹

Ermonela Jaho is incredible- I’ve been lucky enough to listen to her sing several times at ROH including in Suor Angelica- thank you for sharing your own tragedy at the time of singing. I hope you will both be back soon at ROH- I’ve loved the online productions but nothing beats live performance attendance

Ermonela, for me, is THE BEST BUTTERFLY OF THE ÓPERA HISTORY, and, probably, the BEST Violetta too. I have Dvds and CDS whith Callas, Tebaldi in this personages. I think Ermonela more similar to Callas

Typical of the modern style of opera singer: they must look right first and foremost. It's a small and unremarkable voice in the theatre. What Tebaldi called a "mosquito" voice!!! She also cannot sing in tune and demonstrates the collapse of operatic vocal standards. A lot of talk about "soul" but a basic technique would be more useful.

and she still hadn't learned to sing properly. and still singing! Such things destroy opera because young people think it is the right singing!

I completely agree. I heard her as Suor Angelica (small voiced and underwhelming) and Zaza in concert at The Barbican - equally disappointing. Even 10 years ago she wouldn't have made it. Sad times.
