Ernie Ball: What's Your Slinky Story?

One can't be at fault for using D'Addario or Ernie Balls. Both great strings that last. However, Ernie Balls have one major advantage for me. They sound great straight out of the box, while D'Addarios sound kinda shrill. Therefore, Ernie Ball slinkys are the greatest string on the planet. For me at least. Hundreds of packs in, this didn't change.

As a kid I bought a hot pink packet, because I thought it was funny. Turns out the content was serious.

I've been a Ernie Ball string user for years. Love them won't change. My choice is the Hybrid slinky's 9-46's. Yeah, I tried others in the beginning but I always went back to the strings I'd started with. The others that made me happy and that is the Ernie Ball slinky's...

My Slinky story? As a cash strapped teenager, I was using Fender Dynamaxx string for the simple reason that I could afford them. But they oxidized like crazy, and I always ended up with black rust on my fingertips. Around 30 years later, I got a set of "Heavy slinky" as a gift from my fellow guitarist in the band I was in at the time. Never one to refuse a free bee, I put them on my guitar... ...And after a few days went straight back to playing what I had been playing for 25 years after I gave up on Fender Dynamaxx strings: D'Addario XL's. They just feel and sound right to me, I couldn't get used to how different the Slinky's felt. Yeah, it's not much of a Slinky story, but it is MY slinky story.

Always used Daddario, but recently I recorded a demo with Slinkys, and then recorded the final album with Daddarios as always, and I found that I prefered the guitar tone of the demo versions, so I bought a couple of Slinkys and recorded all the album again from start to finish just because I loved the tone, now I’m a loyal fan.

Here's my Ernie Ball Story. I can't enter any of their stupid giveaways because they are always in Instagram? Can't just enter like a normal giveaway have to jump through hoops and join some BS and this and that. WTF! Whomever sets these up really sucks at making it easy to enter a contest. Makes me wonder about Ernie's judgment?

Love the pink ones I have them on my guitar. I always loved Guns N' Roses so when I found out that Slash used them, I tried them and have never looked back. Great flexible strings that last.

Ernie Ball and D'Addario are the only stings I use. D'Addario are on anything with a Floyd Rose type trem, everything else gets Ernie Ball.

My slinky story: For whatever reason, Ernie Balls seem to break more often and wear-in quicker than other brands. Perhaps the technology has improved recently. 🤔

Nothing earth shaking. I use them because they don't break and that saves me MONEY.

I remember my first time buying strings, I chose ernie ball as it has the coolest packaging, little did I know it was the best string ever, tried other brands too but I just kept coming back (send me some strings pls eb 😙)

I tried D'addario strings ones. One String broke the same night. Then it was right back to Ernie Ball and haven's left since then...

I was in the town of bemidji mn went to a guitar store and saw a pack of regular slinkeys i knew mac demarco had em and i cant stop using them today

I Use Erniball Slinky. Great Strings.

The Slinkys have the best feel under my fingers. I've tried almost all the other major brands in the regular price bracket. Sadly, I don't use Ernie Ball Slinkys just because they turn dark on me by the third day, and this is with wiping strings down, washing my hands etc. I use the other popular brand for the durability, which lasts about 2 weeks before they start to discolor or go dull. I wish the Slinkys endured a little longer because the feel is unmatched.
