I like it, its FINE, across their whole discography it sits somewhere in the middle for me. As a whole it didnt blow me away, but I think every song has some aspects to them that I enjoy. I think they do softer songs brilliantly, like blue reverie etc. But when it comes to their token heavy high pace high adrenaline tracks I'm definitely missing a lot of the "fun" riffs and taps and crazy leads from Drift Neon ERRA etc. edit: and obviously with Jesse's standout high pitched singing being less frequent, way more lower-mid range singing their music feels somewhat "flat" Glimpse is very solid
On a first listen it was pretty meh but it got sooo much better over time. I actually think this album has some of the best Erra songs ever, like: Past Life Persona, Glimpse, Slow Sour Bleed. End to Excess and Wave are also really nice. I've heard all of their previous stuff and couldn't get into most besides Neon and some part of Augment, Neon is very good in terms of overall experience, every song works just right and has a perfect amount of variety, Cure has even more variety but i'm not sure if some of these songs work together if you understand what i mean... I'm not a big fan of Self-titled for some reason, it feels pretty monotone 🤷♂ They have some really good singles like: Eye of God and Psalm of Sedition(imo some of their best songs of all time that didn't end up on any album besides Deluxe edition for one of those), i think their main problem is that they're doing better singles than the albums. Only imagine if they focused on album to make a great overall experience that will work just right, less songs and length with incredible detalization and production, progressive elements and experimentation(in a good way) = better experience. But still, i like the direction of some of their new songs. 8/10 (Personal opinion of a casual listener)
The new album is so weird, groovy, and different. It's just a different ERRA experience than I (and many others) were expecting. Whether you like the album or not, I think, can largely depend on your expectations of it. If you went into it thinking it was going to sound like something specific, you were probably disappointed. I'm glad they took a chance and had some fun with it. We'll always have the self-titled masterpiece. But this was an entirely different creative triumph.
Ever since I got into ERRA off of Divisionary and Drift, I thought that they would be incredible at a slower, softer focus while still retaining the heavy of metal. And this album more or less proved me right haha
this is my favorite ERRA album, and thats hard to say because of how much I love the other stuff. I find myself just stopping because of how different riffs or singing parts hit just right and give me the chills.
As a long time ERRA fan overall the album is OK.. Slow Sour Bleed, Glimpse, Rumor of Light imo is some of their best work. Those 3 songs are fantastic.
Hot take, but I like CURE more than the self titled. But that's coming from someone whose fav Erra album is 'Drift", so I'm probably the exception. I always thought the self titled was a bit samey, heavy Erra doesn't do that much for me.
Absolute loving the new album, it did take a different direction but not completely. Jesses vocals have always hit that sweet spot that is really hard to find and with this album it just surpassed that. His vocals really made this album, especially with Wave, its perfect
If I was getting a self titled 2, I would’ve been so sad. What I got instead of that was something refreshing and I have been listening to it everyday since it came out. Could not be prouder of the boys over at erra, they did a fantastic job
This song, Blue Reverie and Crawl Backwards out of Heaven are the best shit they've EVER done. This album rules, shame that it came out the same day as alpha wolf though, if this came out the week before I think a lot of people would've liked it more.
the album is definitely written to be listened to as an album. I felt really similar as the singles kept coming out i wasnt really listening to them apart from the first couple of days after release. but now that the album is here its like all i can listen to. I think all the songs are 7s-8s like they are objectively good songs, but the consistency of the album and the listening experience front to back takes the album to like a 8.5-9 for me. idk how to explain it other than i just feel like the songs work a lot better with context
I think this album was highly different than what people were expecting to be, and because of that, a lot of people were disappointed. However, I wasn't too big on all the songs upon a first listen, but after having given it multiple listens, I can confidently say I really enjoyed the album. My only real complaint about the album is that the album itself feels kinda all over the place, where there wasn't much thematic consistency. However, the more I listen to it and stop trying to compare it to self-title, the more I understand and support their goal to separate this album from self-title. They did NOT make the same album twice, and I appreciate that so much!
I respect your opinion through and through, I just wish you were a little more open yeah it’s not as heavy as you want but you can’t deny these songs are fucking good 👍
I truly thought this album was being pushed by their record bc I thought their last one JUST came out, but it's already been 3 years... pretty uninspired like you said but there's a few that really grow on you
