hands down the BEST eruption cover ever done. period. Better than dweezil. I watched this entire show and I must say, well done Simon. The tone, the chops, the sound, every single nuance. just fantastic. The Analog delay at the end, just EPIC!!!! 🤯🤯🤯👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼🔥🔥🔥

Simon is absolutely “The Man” when it comes to EVH. He totally nails the correct tone and sound. His palm muting is crazy good. He catches many of the little details and nuances of Eddies playing in so many ways. If there is going to be a Van Halen Tribute concert tour, the line up should be Simon Horsford, Micheal Anthony, Alex Van Halen, Sammy Hagar and a vocalist from a Tribute band to do the DLR stuff cause he would do a much better job than DLR himself right now. They would also have to bring in a famous person to play keyboards as well because many of those songs have overdubs that they could reproduce with Simon and a separate person playing keys.

Mate, this is the best cover of Eruption I have ever heard, I could of closed my eyes and thought I was listening to Eddies studio version. The only thing that was not totally accurate was the delay pitch shift at the end, but who cares about that when you executed every note perfectly and the tone was literally perfect! good job man :) I have the Top Jimi profile for my Kemper as well, and its amazing. He should use your video as a demo on his website. you do it total justice!

Hi there Jorge! Thanks for the message. Gear wise, I’m only using an MXR phase 90, and a Strymon ‘El Capistan’ in the front of the Kemper. I'm using the Kemper as a pre amp, but I have it set so that I have the dry sound coming out of one output, and the wet (reverb) coming out of a separate output. That way I can emulate the dry/wet approach of the guitar sound on the album (mostly dry guitar in the left speaker, mostly reverb in the right speaker). I run the dry sound out of the Kemper into the fx loop return of my vintage Marshall (essentially using it just as a power amp) and into my vintage cab with greenbacks. I run the wet signal into the other rig you can see onstage there: The DV with a 2x12 (which was just one of the backline amps there on the day). The profiles are from a guy called TopJimi who makes a pack called “The Brown Sound”, they’re fantastic! topjimi.com/products/legendary-tones-series-brown-sound-pack But the sound you’re hearing on the video is not the mic, it’s just the Kemper believe it or not. 🤟

@@SimonHosford unreal... so you added more phase effect .. the kemper profile already has some phase effect I guess? Or you have turned off the kemper’s phase and run it only by the mxr pedal?

@@letteratura2 no, the phaser is only on the board. The one in the Kemper doesn't really sound right to my ears. 🤟

@@SimonHosford Thanks for your reply man! yep I think that too, just last question , you use the main outs of your kemper to go wet/dry in your amps returns?

@@letteratura2 That's exactly right :) In the video, the Marshall return is taking the Kemper dry, and the Mark DV amp you see there is taking the wet from the Kemper.

Spot on ... notes, tone, feel, great stuff! I’m curious about the dive at the end using the delay. Did you get that from Curt Mitchell’s Van Halen lessons? The first time I ever saw that was him manipulating one of the knobs on his delay to get the dive to go that low.

Hi there William. Actually no, I don’t know of Curt. But I know that Eddie used to manipulate the knobs on his Echoplex for that effect. So I’m just using the Strymon ‘El Capistan’ pedal and using the ‘rate’ knob to turn down the speed, which means the pitch gets lower and lower. So that’s what you can see me doing there in the video.
