Erwin is indeed a selfish man, but his selfishness lines up perfectly with helping humanity go against the titans. His motivation is purely selfish, but he's very self aware and thus makes sure that his actions are still in assistance to humanity as a whole. A selfish/selfless leader.
And even though he was slefish, whatever he asked his men to di he always led by example. He never forced anyone, never hid the dangers, never hid the main goal. That's why so many gave their life for the mission, they could see themselves in his eyes

It’s actually funny, in the Spanish dub version is way funnier. Connie says, (translated to English )“ if I was Eren I would say that Mikasa is on fire” Mikasa sounds exactly like “ mi casa” , which means mi house. There’s a whole bunch of jokes about Mikasa’s name in the Latino fandom

Less than 1% of 1% of the population on this Earth has the ability to lead a group of people (soldiers or not) to their deaths knowingly. How can mere words propel your body into the fray? It’s unheard of to me. Legendary writing and voice acting it makes you feel the fear of being there especially when the girl throws up.
"Give up on your dreams and die" Out of context sounds like a villain line... But here no, it' s a dark, sour, desperate encouragement. As testified by the miserable smile that slowly unfolds on Commander Erwin' s face
“We die trusting the living who follow to find meaning in our lives” and the line following about how that’s the sole method to rebel against this cruel world is the most underrated and incredible statement I’ve ever heard. It just keeps going and going until someone finally succeeds. That way everything wasn’t in vain. Sometimes that is the case for our reality as well.

For Levi, Erwin's words to him at the end of No Regrets came full circle too: "If you begin to regret, you'll dull your decisions and let others make your choices for you. All that's left for you then is to die." Erwin began to show remorse, and Levi made the decision for him to die.
The redheaded kid with the nice monologue is called Floch. He was presented for a short moment with a few of his friends or comrades. And it showed how new recruits generally take being a scout lightly until the reality makes them realise how serious the situation is. Such as when when saw our original group training and the majority of them took it like it was a game or just a task they needed to be good at so they could go to the interior.
In case you didn’t know, Connie’s “Eren’s house is… eavesdropping” joke was the subbed version of the original joke which wouldn’t make sense translated to English so they made a different one referring to the eaves of the house The pronounciation sounds like Jaeger, Eren’s last name so some word has something to do with that

Is a good choice. But mine is definetively Hero. Many anime shows have their villain fights stay for 10+ episodes... And in AoT we got 1 episode centered around Reiner, one on Bertolt, one on the Beast Titan... and then in Hero all of them get defeated at the same time. And Armin's final thoughts... Heck, I KNOW he doesn't die there, and I still cry every freaking time. XD

This is quite possibly my favourite moment in the whole of AoT. Erwin throwing away his dreams of learning the truth of the world just to give his comrades a chance at the win. I don't know if you're interested in the dub at all, but Erwin's speech is dialled up to 11 and I'd love to see your reaction to that.
Yess, exactly I love his speech in Dub soo much I generally prefer Sub over Dub because I see Sub as Original and quality content But there are anime Dub's which says that Dub Voice acting cab be epic too
I love Levi and Erwin together because they understand and respect each other. No one else could play their roles. Levi could never follow anyone else like he follows Erwin and no one could say to Erwin what Levi can. Two of my favorite characters ever.

I must be missing it, but surely I can't be the first person to mention the ending of No Regrets: Erwin spoke to a distraught Levi who was questioning everything he did that led up to the deaths of his friends, but Erwin told him: "If you begin to regret, you'll dull your decisions and let others make your choices for you. All that's left for you then is to die." In this episode, we see Erwin beginning to regret his decisions. He's so sorrowful over not being able to see what's in the basement. He's grieving over the idea that what he did wasn't enough to get him to his dream. At that moment, Levi stands up and says, "I'm making the choice for you. Give up on your dream and die." It's a beautiful wrap-up of the Levi-Erwin relationship where Levi internalized that all-important lesson that he was given when he joined the scouts and is bringing it back around to Erwin. Now that Erwin is filled with regret, all that's left for him to do is die by the choice somebody else makes for him.

I’m Japanese. I thought the translation of Erwin’s speech was so accurate,and much better than what other reactors always watch. Script, translation and your reaction, all are so good in this episode!
Erwin is a true embodiment of Kenny's "Everyone has to be a slave to something." and Armin's "Those who cannot abandon anything cannot change anything." him getting to where he is because he was a slave to the truth of this world and him changing the tide of battle by abandoning what he was a slave to.
I don't think Erwin had a character Arc. He remained the same. It's just we started seeing more of him. The toll of dead brethren was always there. Erwin always kept himself a calm and calculating leader as that's the best way forward. True leader, A hero.

I really liked the speech of that fearful soldier, because in any case being afraid of dying is completely normal (who would not have second thoughts in that situation, don't be hypocritical), participating at 15 in a suicide mission like that makes you shiver and yet he still sacrificed himself after hearing Erwin's extraordinary words that would have convinced anyone
This Ep was Number 2 of IMDB's best TV-Episodes of all time for 2years straight. So you can tell this is the second best TV-Episode of modern time. The first place goes for an Aot Episode too🤪🙏🏼but its still incoming. This was my favorite episode bc i love the pure perfection of all this Erwin moment. Perfect setup for tradedgy, perfect character to drop the most perfect speech to lead children into suicide, screaminf in fear of knowing whats about to come, but screaming brave and loud to rebel against this world. For that scene the most epic orchestral OST "Apetitan" for that speech and then the setting..... Its literally so creepy behind you a wall and in front a ring of scary ass looking human eating titans and a beast titan crusging everythinf within that ring. Its extremely scary, its insanely dramatic and tense and even if i feel like getting tortured in that episode, its so satisfying to enjoy that pure perfection in connecting details. Didnt even thought about that Show getting better, but then S4Pt2 dropped........
I don't think Erwin has ever been selfish. He spent his whole life, yes, trying to prove his father was right, but he's always done everything for humanity's sake. Always doing what needed to be done to move forward, to get more information, to bring them one step closer to finding out the truth. If he'd never done the things he did, they would never know the things they know.
You should hear the English dub. Great script, great delivery. "Their lives have meaning because we the living refuse to forget them. And as we ride towards certain death we trust our successors to do the same for us. Because my soldiers do not buckle or yield when faced with the cruelty of this world. My soldiers push forward. My soldiers scream out. My soldiers rage."
Erwin's speech both in dubbed and subbed version gives me chills and makes me emotional everytime I hear it. The voice actors put everything they had into that speech and it shows.
The most beautiful part about Erwin's character is that he helps humanity lead itself against the titans because it helps his actual goal, to find the truth of the world that his father theorised about. If his goals did not align, you can easily see him be an antagonist for the show. It's so amazing!
Watching floch's speech about him thinking he could become the brave soldiers hits so hard after seeing him take 4 special Titans on his own. Absolute GOAT.
Erwin's speech was absolutely amazing. In the face of death he continues to march on for his squad, even when he lost his arm. The scene is so chilling where he is in the mouth of the titan showing everyone that even the leader can be taken "out" first causing fear. Erwin still scream "Advance!", giving the courage for all the keep pushing forward. Its a beautiful ending for such a soldier.
You're totally right about Erwin's motivations but he was always transparent with people about the costs and leads by example. Ultimately he puts aside his personal goals for the good of humanity and feels the weight of all that sacrificed their lives for that moment. He even says in his speech that his dreams are meaningless compared to the cause. It's a really big character moment for him and the dialogue Levi gives him is a call back to the OVA where Erwin tells Levi to make a decision and that he should live with 'no regrets.' So Levi says, "I'll make the decision for you." When he see's him wavering here.
damn it. i never not sobbed watching this episode! damn it! i've seen it so many times, i can't even count... but erwin... erwin's speech... my HEART is in shambles! as for levi making that decision for erwin, it must've been so painful for levi too... shit. this episode is epic! "my soldiers, rage! my soldiers, fight!"
This episode made me cry because it shows Jean becoming the leader Marco always sought him out to be. And then to show this after the reveal of what happened to Marco is just- it broke my heart. 💔

Looks like I've finally catched up to the latest AoT reaction video. Lovely YT-series for a great show. It's a nice way of recapping the show as well as getting new insight as well as entertaining reactions (love the puns too.) Erwin is definitely a goated and iconic character imo. He's typically one of the first characters that come to mind whenever I think of this show
