this is an absolute classic. Kurt Russell performance, its not an action romp its a man trying to survive and get the job done and its predictable because it helped start it all
I agree that it's a classic. People usually pick Halloween or The Thing as their favorite Carpenter movie, but I pick this one as my all time favorite of his films.
Did you notice that Cabbie said he'd been a cab driver in that area for 20 years? Means he's been doing this since before it was a prison! Did Cabbie just stay when they turned it into a prison?
John Carpenter generally doesnt do "fast action". He stuff is very slow, very modulated. For him the atmosphere is very important. Slow, lingering shots, creepy music. I think you sent yourself up to hate it by assuming it was gonna be something it wasn't. It's like going into a Quentin Tarintino movie expecting wall to wall action then being disappointed when you get characters talking 3/4s of the movie. If you want a fast Carpenter action movie then Big Trouble in Little China is about as fast as you're gonna get.
When this movie came out no one had even heard of Steven Seagal. Now what you call " slow " is known as character and story development. Leave the all action no real acting action movies to Seagal and Stallone. Yes it was dark because most of the story takes place at night and there is very little electricity there to light up the city.
He was complaining that it looked dark? I wish more modern movies, specially horror looked like escape from new york, movies look to clean and polished now which takes away from the athmosphereand and world building
Spoiler alert: Everyone that says, "I heard you were dead" dies. British president? I think not. Maggie is so tasty. Snake is in trouble from beginning to end. Escape from LA is a watch once just to say you did but nothing more.
Kurt Russell, Isaac Hayes, Donald Pleasance, Lee Van Cleef and Ernest Borgnine made this a bona fide classic. The sequel is fun too. Did I mishear you? "Assault On Precinct 13 was terrible".....I'm never taking whatever drugs you're on lmao FYI The Cabbie was played by the incredible Ernest Borgnine and Hawk by the equally awesome Lee Van Cleef.
Escape from LA is worth a watch. Better picture quality and effects. Other Kurt Russell classics are Stargate Tango and Cash Big Trouble in Little China Overboard
Snake Plissken is the first anti-hero. Konami ripped-off his likeness for Solid Snake character in the Metal Gear game series. Cabbie was played by the late, great Ernest Borgnine. Escape From LA is a smoking piece of shit - you were warned.
It’s Clint eastward it’s based on and again this is considered a classic masterpiece so you don’t know nothing about movies classic movies and John carpenter is also considered a masterpiece film maker
I like your take. Yet, I loved the movie. It is a B movie as in low budget. Rambo II was not low budget. So yah the action cuts only had one take the rehersal take. So it did alot for the budget it had. I look at B movies like video games. It is the gamepay that gets me not so much the graphics. The graphics and plotline are secondary. Nice to watch pretty graphis that is true yet it don't make or break it for me.
@@FlixTalk okay then. I guess it's a difference in opinion. I first watched it when I was 12 years old & I've loved ever since. I liked it because was different from most action movies I watched when I was a kid which was the late 80s & early 90s. I liked the slower pace of the first half & I really enjoyed the last half with the tense standoff. It's in my top 5 John Carpenter movies. Here's where it ranks in my list 1. The Thing 2. Halloween 3. Escape From New York 4. Assault On Precinct 13 5. Starman I liked it a lot but you hated it. Whatever you can hate it. It doesn't matter to me. I still love it.
@@FlixTalk please react to two movies of John Carpenter that aren't horror that I think you'll probably like because they are so different from what you normally see during the 80s. Starman(1984) Big Trouble In Little China (1986) Starman is a sci Fi movie starring Jeff Bridges & Karen Allen(Marion from Raiders Of The Lost Ark). Big Trouble In Little China is a fantasy martial arts movie starring Kurt Russell & a young Kim Cattrall(one of the girls from the HBO series Sex & The City).
@@FlixTalk look man, if I offended you then I'm sorry. I meant no offense. I simply couldn't understand why anyone would hate that movie but I totally understand why some wouldn't like it. I'm not offended by someone not liking something I grew because that's something a child would do & I'm 35 years old so I'm far from a child.
They tried to make a serious movie, but it's more like a comedy without the comedy! We already had Mad Max (1979), compare that with this?! 🤯 By the way, the curly brunette 😍 is also in The Cannonball Run (1981), a much better movie, just saying! 😉 And if you want to have that 80's pace, watch the '96 movie The Long Kiss Goodnight! 🤪✌🏼
