I use this escape all the time. It works so well. Get the shoulders square to your body, bring their hips over the shoulder girdle and the legs will pop right open. Watch where he puts the arm to counter armbar followups.

I love verbal taps, "tap tap tap". Bernardo lol you take such a beating bro, respect. It mighy not look like much but if your spine stays straight the pressure is preserved and then he transfers it all too the first area that gives which is the neck. I think this guy is by far the best guy I have seen on your show/channel. He reminds me of how Americans use to be very smart. Well done.

Sorry if this is a total noob question, but why not take a cross collar grip with the free hand to prevent the shoulder walk instead of using the hand that's inside the triangle? Wouldn't this dramatically reduce the armbar threat?

This is one of those techniques that looks super effective for comp but I wouldn't feel comfortable utilizing in training. Just not worth it. If you are in a fully locked triangle with a training partner your last gasp move shouldn't be pressuring their cervical spine. There's just always those guys on the mats that cannot be trusted with stuff like this.
@imitchellgill
@imitchellgill 2 года назад
I'm with you. I have a couple of escapes I like to use, but I'm not willing to use one that hurts my training partner's neck. Perhaps drilling it slowly and carefully for someone who is an avid competitor makes sense? It IS good technique, but we're in this for the long haul. I don't want to retire anyone by accident.

are you more pushing down on the shoulder as you continue to press forward or your arm is pushing on the artery ? and would it work/help if the arm would fold into the throat? I know THAT is not what you are trying to show here thanks for another standout instructional

Seems a little dangerous especially if the top person is a lot heavier than the bottom player
@todd2324

I agree. I think that is why it's especially important for the bottom player to know when to abandon the move.

@alexrosario423

Hmm. I think it's enough to just use their weight, since its more about the placement of the weight as opposed to the weight itself. Does seem a little risky.
@kirito3082

@@todd2324it's also especially important to make sure your partner knows the move and is ok with it being done to him
@Danlovestrivium
@Danlovestrivium Год назад
@@kirito3082 A lot of people watching Henry Akins videos don't understand his vision of BJJ. He doesn't view this as a sport, he sees it purely as self defense/fighting. Because of this, some of the techniques he shows aren't designed with training partners in mind. When he said in this video that this is a "last ditch escape", he's quite literally talking about your last chance at defending yourself against an attacker.

I think it's more important to drill other triangle escapes, prior to it being fully locked as a beginner. Focus on understanding the principles of staying out of a triangle, and getting out of a triangle right off the initial jump.
