Almost any watch below 38 mm is either listed as a “woman’s watch” or at best, “Unisex”. I just got a gorgeous post Invicta Glycine Combat Sub. I asked my wife if she would wear a watch with “Combat Sub” on the dial. Nope. It’s exactly like the pre-Invicta Sub except it has a Sellita SW 200-1 (mine, out of the box runs 3 to 4 seconds a day fast). It is my most accurate mechanical watch. And the old Glycine had drilled lugs and this one does not. Nor does it have crown guards (yay!) , is a 300 M diver. And…..36 mm! A wee bit of a baller….two tone stainless and rose gold plate, head and bracelet. All delivered to my door, TT&L < $500.00 USD. The vendors call it a “women’s watch”…..hmmmmm….. Rolex just put out a new “MEN’S WATCH”…..hmmmm…..let’s see…..oh yeah, Rolex calls it an “Explorer”……in 36 mm, lol, 🤣
They initially did a 38mm with a date window and a more basic quartz movement. Same case and indices. But a strong sunburst silver/steel dial which, given that it already had a polished case and indices, is a bit blingy (unfortunately). Even a more subtle sunburst would have been better.
So I fell in love with vintage Seikos and bought a 61GS last year. I’m so glad to see that there’s a enough demand to warrant an homage because the case design is very special. I want to order one as a daily wearer as my Seiko is pretty fragile. I can’t tell from the video but the lines don’t look very crisp and there doesn’t seem to be any brush work on the facade. Is that true? Regardless, it’s lovely and for the money, I think I’ll order a couple of them.
Such a cracking little watch! On the right strap this looks by no means like a ladies watch. It still has the exceptional high quality handset with that blued second hand and the razor sharp polished dauphine hands. I really enjoyed the review!
I just found your channel on reddit, subscribed. Nice review. I have the 40mm version and I can't believe how beautiful it is. ET is the best value, imo.
I just ordered this one! I wanted to try a 36mm watch, and I couldn't turn this down for the price. I would've chosen the yellow version if it had a blued hand, but the off-white looks good as well.
Thanks for these great reviews. I've used a few links to get stuff and always had no surprises thanks to you covering the pros/cons of these watches so well.
LOL!!! White dials on both sizes are gone... again and again! Luckily got mine (40mm) on the 2nd bunch produced. Anyways, i'll totally agree with you on the movement usage, should be a must. As for the watch, if Escapement Time listens us (i'm sure they do), i'd like to see two things, firstly and mostly change the hands (yup, i said it!), not in shape rather in form, meaning a central bevel, not this flat shaped with two bevels on sides. Secondly, guess it would be nice to polish the inside of the case, a mirror polish would make the indices (and the printed minute markers) reflect on that, watch will fly even higher in total looks after that. None of these two changes is hard... Please ET (...phone home...!🤪), do these, we'll buy again and again, you know right! (...maybe i'm nitpicking, but i love this watch!) Thanks for the honest review Steve, be well mate, enjoy (both?). Cheers. PS You need some perlon starps mate, vintage and timeless, totally for watches like this, but many others too. And not as stupidly ugly and bulky as natos... IMO, always...
That's most likely because the VAT is already included for everything purchased on AliExpress (and delivered to Europe) under €150 since last year. And if the cost is over this threshold, you are expected to pay VAT yourself upon arrival.
@@DrAkyla1123 Dear Dmitry, i'm well aware of that, still my quick math don't match the number. As for customs import duties (plus some local postal extras!), please... still noone knows exactly what it can be in my country, just a nightmare! Price can go up in the skies, and beyond! 😉😁 Be well mate, cheers.
There is a yellow!!! 😍 The you reviewed with an elegant black or brown strap (matching the shoes and waistband) would make it a nice clean elegant suit watch.
That's a great movement for the price. I generally hate quartz because of the annoying tick, but I like this watch because of the vintage size, smoother sweep and pleasant dial and yeah, it's a unisex watch. I have another watch with this same movement and have had no problem with it.
I'm old. I lived thru the 2000's, with the 45mm pie-pan watches, but I always thought they were too big for the normal person's wrist. A watch should tell you what time it is without calling attention to itself. Lately, I've been buying vintage watches in the 33 to 37mm range. They look elegant and do their job without saying "Look at me." Remember that the Marines and fighter pilots of WWII wore 34mm watches. They were not worried about looking "Manly." This looks like a great watch. I'll probably buy one. Tasteful size without vintage problems.
This watch is just stunning. I have a seiko sarb035 but I am planning on getting this one just for the seconds hand and alternate between them both. Do you know how easy or difficult it is to get a replacement vh31 movement? Thank you so much
@@EscapeWheel sorry I did not reply sooner. I just wanted to let you know I ordered the watch a couple of days ago by using your link Great review btw!
@@sanderbrugman8157 movement is independent of the dial size. If you want, you could do it....but the dial is the least of your worries (snip the dial feet and use dial-dots to attach dial to the movement). You need to fabricate a movement holder, make sure the height aligns with the stem hole, and then ensure the caseback still fits. Check if the hands fit the pinion as well, then hope the hand stack is low enough to clear the crystal.
@@EscapeWheel @EscapeWheel I meant take out the dial and the quartz movement and just use the case to house the movement and dial of the Lord marvel 5740C. So then the dial should fit perfectly in the case of else there would be gaps. Of course i would need an appropriate movement ring to hold it in place. The movement is a thin manual and the original case is basically the same thickness.
Nice vid, thanks for that! Yesterday I ordered the 40mm version for 59 Euros. It does no longer show "Escapement Time" on the dial. Now it´s called "Chameri" 🧐 I am so excited to see it live! 😛
About to get the tandorio, then escapement time appears. Sorry, Tandorio. I always wanted a classic king seiko look, and a small watch at that? Did request a strap change. Changed the white to the blue one.
@@EscapeWheel Hope so. Also, another brand popped up. Thought it was escapement time because it was pretty much the 40mm version, but with a more French name.
@@demoneyeslaharl yes, Chimare or something. That's Watchdives.com's new watch. Seems to be the same watch which happens with Chinese watches from time to time.
@@EscapeWheel Probably they noticed high sales on that watch, and also saw that Escapement Time was missing, they went for it 😅 then ET went all "I'm back, b****es!"
I like this small case size, normally I go for 40mm diameter watches but I'm starting to love 36mm these days. It would be nice to own more than one of this, the classic white dial is a must IMO then another colour way too. The movement is also something I want to see in more homages going forward cos it's pretty amazing. Great review as always Steve.
@@EscapeWheel thats true! But it has always been a huge pet peeve of mine! I like rehaults to be either well finished, small or detailed (feks like rolex does)
