This is important for nerds and women to practice. The most common attacks on them are choke holds. Everyone assumes punching. Those they can find a way out of. Choke holds kill people. I've seen bullys black them out before.

Hey, so I wanna point out that all these self defense videos I’ve watched wouldn’t of helped me in my situation. I was in the driver seat, and he was in the back, he had went forward and grabbed my throat and threw me in my passenger seat my back bent over the center console a difficult spot to use any self defense other than pulling on his shirt bc I was in full fledge panic. If he’d done it a few seconds longer I would’ve been knocked out. So if you could look into it some more, I’d love to see different techniques for odd situations, not just the common ones like being against a wall bc that’s not always the case, or being on the ground with him on top of you, sometimes your held in odd positions. I’ve been watching a lot of videos like this to see if I could’ve stopped him, but so far I haven’t seen a single video that would’ve helped my situation.

You also don't need to practice a scene in self-defense until you can't do it anymore, which might happen 0.0001% of the time. You have to adjust to everyday life, which can happen 5% of the time. What nonsense you're spouting, every situation and every scenario is different and everything happens dynamically. You will never find the ultimate technique that works against everything, you have to learn to adapt to a dynamic situation as quickly as possible to a new situation, sometimes you can extend and adapt other techniques for that situation, even if it doesn't quite fit. You have to stay dynamic and active. In the end, it's about survival, no matter how you do it. Real life is not a pony farm, the truth usually hurts less than being lulled into a false sense of security.

Realistically, why wouldn't tickling actually work? It seems unorthodox, but most people are very ticklish in the armpits/along the top sides of the rib-cage, and that would definitely cause someone to lose their grip/hold on you by a substantial margin that would allow you to flee or retaliate.

in this case the smaller guy had enough room to stick a push kick right in the groin or to a knee or hip with the support of the wall which to me seems like a more intuitive solution then just trying to twist out as an isolated move.

The one thing this dudes preaches if you're paying attention is staying calm, cool and collected in these stressful moments so tht you'll be able to do these things. It takes a mind of focus to have this work, fighters get trained to remain calm for a reason and not fight with ager or hate. There sre reasons for this, people who don't Train to fight or just train to train or be knowledgeable about self defense don't realize that important aspect

Good video, the only criticism from my point of view is why your colleague doesn't even do it with you, as he is smaller and weighs less, it would be nice to see how it works from his point of view and not always from yours. Too bad, there are a lot of guys who always have to take a smaller one to show how the technique works. Use one of the same size or bigger. Otherwise everything is ok.

In fact: No opponent who is that small will coke a much bigger opponent. Just change the sides that the big one chokes, thats realistic. And the biggest fail nearly every "Teacher" shows in the Dojo is that the "choker" just lays his hands on the neck/throat without any pressure. Thats a hold, not a choke. If there is a really choke the defender has just one, max two seconds for a hard reaction, after that the light is off. I had many students in my group, even Black belts and ask them what they learned against that choke. I lays my hands on them the way they learned that and they do their mambo jambo from Taekwon do or Kung Fu. I says "Ok, now on real, OK?" and grab and chokes them harder. After one second they kneels in front of me and looked really shocked so i told them "Thats a real chocking on the street, no attacker lays his hands on your neck that friendly. Where were your moves and defends now? You are a Black belt, whats going on?". Most teachers and students dont know reality and think Dojo stuff will prepare for reality.

You're very wrong, this "choke" is a joke and cannot accomplish much, if anything at all and is absolutely trivial to break out of. Also, you do not pass out after seconds of choking, it takes minutes to pass out and around 10 entire minutes for brain death and that's only if they can fully restrict your breathing. Go learn some CPR basics before you pretend to know what you're talking about.

Yes, the technique seemed good (luckily I have not been attacked before) but as you say no sane person is ever going to attack someone that much bigger than himself. It wld have been more realistic and fairer for the viewers if the instructor had been the attacker to start off with.

Why not just put both of your hands in and to both sides of the assailant's head, then rotating them outwards kinda like a swimming stroke, or if you want to hurt the assailant, you can instead grab their arms from inside their "hold" and smash the top of your forehead into their nose. That could potentially backfire though, so I would suggest not doing that.

The actual way to defend against a front choke is to laugh your ass off at the stupidity of the person attacking you. Front chokes don't work If they did, we'd go for them all the time in MMA and jiu-jitsu ... in jiu-jitsu especially... if a front choke worked we'd go for that from mount instead of trying to get lapels or isolate an arm for an arm-lock The only chokes that work from the front are the ezequiel and the arm triangle (and the guillotine if you're gonna call that a front choke)
@onlyonecannoli3952
@onlyonecannoli3952 Год назад
I completely disagree. You technique relies on strength. A weaker individual would not have a successful outcome. Stiffening and tucking the neck in is good, but the next steps (taking full advantage of the fact that your assailant has both his hands around your neck) is to strike his eyes, throat, and groin. Following that, you may then attempt to utilize a technique to break the grip (and there are many many of them out there). But how many times have we seen trained MMA fighters be brought to a standstill by an "illegal" groin strike or eye poke? That's empirical evidence.
@clackamasoneful
@clackamasoneful 8 месяцев назад
I disagree with you regarding strength. In BJJ we always do techniques aimed at the chin to move your opponents head so that he faces away from you, ie cross face is just one example. It takes little strength to accomplish this, and it's a gross movement taking little accuracy to make this type of technique work. From a practical standpoint, poking someone's eyes isn't that easy and your opponent can do the same to you. Same with striking the groin. By moving your opponent off line by moving his head you have opened a full array of attacks that are available because you are now well positioned to attack. Attacking while in a poor position is just asking for problems. There is a saying in Jiu-jitsu, position before submission. The techniques on this video demonstrate that well.
@onlyonecannoli3952
@onlyonecannoli3952 8 месяцев назад
@@clackamasonefulI understand what you're saying. I train as well. However, the video is showing a technique that would likely be unsuccessful if the roles were reversed. The smaller man or woman would not have the length to effectuate the technique. Moreover, if the attacker is taller, stronger, and is applying great force to the choke, it is far more likely that the person being attacked will panic when they're unable to successfully leverage the chin. What if the attacker didn't have outstretched arms and was instead applying the choke closer in, with the elbows tucked in? Sliding the arm in between the attackers arm would require the defender to tuck in and bend the arm to the point that they would have insufficient force to leverage the chin. That is the reason that a smaller stature person should first, aim to incapacitate by way of the eyes, nose, throat, groin under these circumstances. Even if not entirely successful, it would likely create enough of a distraction to allow for the implementation of the technique. As you well know, there are many positions and techniques in bjj that do not favor those of smaller stature or those with short limbs. The genius of bjj is knowing when and what technique to apply to the given opponent and understanding your strengths and weaknesses with respect to the available techniques. It is far less likely that a 5'2 135lbs man would be able to successfully implement this technique against a 6'3 230lbs attacker. The smaller man will have a very difficult time leveraging the chin due to his shorter reach. He would most likely have his head and neck raised up by the attacker, taking away his own leverage. If it were this easy, then getting your back off the cage would be as easy as just leveraging your opponent's chin, without the need for any under hooks. Next time you're training in a cage, give that a shot and get back to me. So, though I agree that position over submission is crucial, this technique is not for everybody, at least not without some modifications for those who are of smaller stature and not very strong.
@clackamasoneful
@clackamasoneful 8 месяцев назад
If you are implying a significant difference in reach would make this choke defense ineffective, the same rational could be said about your advice to attack the eyes and throat. The fact is the choke defender gains a good 4 inches from the chin being that far in front of the throat, and another 6 to 8 inches from the ability to lead with one shoulder, something a 2 handed choke cannot perform without compromising the choke. Certainly there can be 10 to 12 inch reach advantages between 2 adults but not common. When there is, an entire different strategy takes place in jiu jitsu as well as striking. Fortunately that's not a common scenario and if one is that short of stature hopefully they are training different techniques. For the vast majority, this video shows well proven techniques requiring little accuracy or strength to accomplish. Your comment that if it were easy to leverage the chin to move your opponent, why isn't it effective when your back is up against the cage is not one of leveraging your hand against the chin but rather leaving yourself open for double underhooks, a completely different scenario compared to someone choking your throat with both hands. If someone did that in the octagon (I would hope nobody training MMA would be that inept), the techniques showed in this video would be effective in the cage as well.
@onlyonecannoli3952
@onlyonecannoli3952 8 месяцев назад
@@clackamasoneful unless your arms are longer than my legs, your balls don't stand a chance. Moreover, I'll have a better chance of poking your eyes or throat (significantly more reach), than flat palming your chin and pushing it past your shoulder. Don't buy into all the bull$hit you see on RU-vid. These guys generally put out go content, but every so often they miss the mark.
