Landed here after 2 hours I didn't mean to spend on RU-vid. Bravo, algorithms.

I can't use rewards to motivate myself, because I know I don't have to do what I tell myself to do. I'll just go straight to the "reward".

43 and it's taken me this long to realise I that if I listen to a podcast when going to sleep my brain won't keep me awake. Even if I drift in and out and hear bits I finally fall asleep quickly and soundly. Listening to podcasts while doing things I hate doing has been a life saver. Typically those things are boring, so don't require my full attention. This way, I can satisfy my desire for learning new things while doing something tedious. Sadly they are coping mechanisms and I'd rather not have to but such is life. I am lucky to have enough moments of hyper focus and excellence I suppose, to manage work and perform, but spending day in day out in an office is in fact a waste of time.

I relate to this! I use RU-vid or audio books while washing dishes, cleaning, driving, cooking. All the boring stuff that’s so hard to do with ADHD.

I have always learned things during my sleep by listening to recorded information and since discovering podcasts about 5 years ago I have found them very useful for being able to make my brain quieter so that I can get to sleep. So many great subjects to listen to for free.

@@kyootzee I'm not sure it's that in this case, but I could be wrong. I think it's more a case of misunderstanding or intentionally ignoring RU-vid conventions. It's a reposted, unedited lecture rather than a deliberate podcast or ted talk type. I think though that chapters is an easy option here

26:30 mindfulness 27:20 - DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GUILT AND SHAME. "YOU'RE A *GOOD PERSON*, WHO MADE A MISTAKE. 👍❤️ YOU'RE *NOT* A "BAD PERSON *BECAUSE* YOU MADE A MISTAKE." 27:44 IF YOU JUST SPENT TIME DOWN A RABBIT HOLE, YOU *NEED* TO TAKE A BREAK, TO RECOVER AND SWITCH GEARS TO A MORE PURPOSEFUL ACTIVITY. YOUR BRAIN IS FRIED, FROM THE RABBIT HOLE, SO YES YOU *DESERVE* AND *NEED* A BREAK, TO ADJUST TO SWITCHING ACTIVITIES, IN ORDER TO BE PRODUCTIVE AND FOCUSED AND READY TO WORK. 🎯✅‼️⏪⏪⏪ ( FROM HER VIDEO)

I see people who had little kids and their kids have grown up and are in college now and think "I've done nothing, I could have raised kids and had a family...". it's too late now, and I have no family for me when I grow old, I'm going to be alone. No planning ahead, even for creating a family. ☹️🙄🙄🙄

I’m so sad reading this. 4 of my closest friends are women in their 50s who are single, no kids. They are unrelated - different friend groups. I find each of them fascinating because of the freedom and joy and authenticity with which they live. All of them in different ways are constantly steering themselves with further education, and new groups, new adventures. They all have nieces, nephews or god children who they Pamper. They have created special and meaningful relationships with these young people that are so enriching. I’m somewhat jealous of their spirit, and now that I become an empty nester, I learning from them how to live again. I don’t know you. Won’t tell you how to feel. But I’m sending you a big hug and maybe some comfort in knowing that working moms, stay at home moms and single gals all go through this midlife sense of regret (st least that’s what I’m seeing). I think this is our cue to figure out what we want next in life. Namaste ❤

Volunteer with youths. They could use your mentorship. I have 4 kids 11-16 and I feel deeply regretful that I didn't do anything with my life. After raising them, I have a husband who resents me not being a financial contributor...so it isn't very nice being 43 and being unemployable either. I'm starting over right now and scared every day.

@kellymichelley Год назад
@@cagedmaiden You have 4 kids and your husband resents you not being a financial contributor?? I would think he would be glad his kids have a mother who is there for them, and who isn't too mentally, emotionally, and perhaps physically drained from work to be able to fully devote herself to her kids. Many husbands wish their wives would stay home with the kids, but the wives don't want that to be their "identity". Once it became common for women to work outside the home, the general attitude was that it was passe to not do so. As we're becoming aware of the effects of lack of parenting on our society, people are affording more respect to stay-at-home parents, recognizing the importance (and difficulty) of that job. When I was growing up, my family was super poor, but I always felt lucky my mom was a stay-at-home mom/wife/housekeeper/etc, while most of my friends' parents both worked. I wouldn't have traded that for any amount of money. Maybe that arrangement created more of a financial burden for my parents, and I think of that as a sacrifice they made for their children. It wasn't like my mother was an amazing mom (didn't spend much time with us), cook (think "Hamburger helper", frozen vegetables, canned soup, ham sandwiches) or housekeeper (the house probably could have used dusting and vacuuming more often). None of that is as important as simply being there, in my opinion (I do think, though, it is important that she was a good example for us, such as by reading instead of watching TV. She also thoroughly ingrained the "golden rule" into our consciences). I'm not a mother, but I can at least speak from the perspective of having had a stay-at-home mother. Children of a stay-at-home parent know without a doubt that they are the most important things in the world to their parent, that they are pretty much their world. They know that if they need their parent at any moment, they will there for them. It's a feeling of having a safety net always close by, giving them the courage to confidently spread their wings. What a gift to give your children. It will affect them the rest of their lives. If I had kids, that's the only way I would have wanted to do it. I was always open to having a stay at home husband though, because I truly don't know if I've ever had what it takes to be a mother. Going to work every day is easy; being a parent is obviously not. I'm thankful to every stay-at-home parent out there, because I think their children probably, on average, turn out to be the more mentally and emotionally healthy and capable adults when it comes time for their generation to run the world. I hope your kids realize how fortunate they are, and that they decide to raise any kids they might have in a stay-at-home-parent household, as well. Sorry for the tangent. I'm just kind of passionate about that subject, and I'm dismayed that your husband doesn't appreciate what you do as much as (I believe) he should. I'm sorry for the way you are feeling at this time in your life. I guess there are things to regret for anyone, wondering what it would have been like down that path they didn't take when they made a decision at a fork in their road. I hope you find the contentment and fulfilment in life that you strive for - that we all strive for. Peace to you and yours.
