The level difficulty isn't based on what you pick first, it's just unknown until you unlock it, iirc.

I always forget this got a ps1 port, and 3 got a ps2 port, need to try them both still

THPS3 got a PS1 port made by Shaba. The original was on the PS2 by Neversoft. 4 here is the port by Vicarious Visions (the same people that made the 1+2 remake and all the handheld ports) but it's a butchered version overall, the controls and goals are messed up. 3 on PS1 on the other hand was great.
