If you're using an ESEE for hunting you don't want that sharpened swedge nor do you want the coating as blood, fat, etc will get caked up inside all the little pockets of the coating and become a nightmare to clean out. First thing I did with mine was strip the coating. Polish the blade to inhibit rust. Then also gun blued it. Also squared off the spine. I've owned all the knives over the years and the ESEE 6, though on the large side for hunting purposes, is still in my top 3 favorites. You can't beat it. Definitely an Apocalypse-worthy blade.

Great video! I like my esee 6 a lot, the only downside is that coating makes it real difficult to throw sparks on a fire steel. I took a dremel and filed it off the spine which seems to have helped out a bit.

You got the tactical esee 6 the common esee6 isn't that much better at choping...your wife got you a gift And that's all that matters a good wife is hard to come by..I thought I had one only to find out 15yrs latter she wasn't honest..so be very happy with your gift.. we are all vary jealous...God bless

I cannot recall at any time as a Boy Scout ever seeing or hearing of anyone using their sheath knife to split (baton) firewood. That is what a hatchet and the contact method we were taught are for. Why anyone would risk breaking an expensive knife, not to mention injury, beating the blade in that manner just escapes me. Hatchets are not so heavy that they overburden you, and even if you break the handle you can still use the head to process firewood. Break your knife blade you're just screwed. Thanks for sharing.

It started out as a thing to do in an emergency, where you might not have an axe or hatchet. But now people just do it for fun.

I don't know if anyone else had told u in the comments yet but that "bone breaker" on the top as you call it is optional as well. I got mine with a fine edge no "bone breaker". just fyi.

Yes sir, that ESSE-6 is a beautiful knife. I got mine without the clip point; plus its has a venom green blade with international orange scales. Thanks for the video, although I must admit that I enjoy watching others baton wood online.

Your knife has a sharpened swedge which is a special order feature. Your wife basically picked up the complete package for you.

This knife has qualities of the Gerber LMF II knife. I'm retired LEO and carried knives that were quick opening and easy access for me and not the bad guy.

Did you like the LMF 2. I have one but I took the serrations off and made a chisel grind I like it better this way..

Nice review. I agree, they're not great choppers, but in all fairness, I've never had any 6" blade that was a chopper CHOPPER so to speak, and I do not beat on my knife either to split wood, but to each their own. I'm not a huge ESEE fan, and I've never drank the kool-aid like many have, but like you said, it's a very good knife and one I'm not afraid to use for sure. I also agree that building your own kit is 99% of the fun of doing it and then taking it out and playing around to see if you really can catch fish, start a fire, make water, or whatever. I'm looking forward to seeing your kit video. Keep up the great work.

not sure why you mention drinking the Kool Aid. Esee makes great knives at excellent prices. 100 to 150 bucks for a quality straight forward tool with an unlimited lifetime warranty regardless of abuse that performs as well, if not better than most 300 dollar custom knives is what I would call a smart decision. sometimes there is good reason something is very popular.

Well David, to be honest, I'd have to agree with you. Since I'm not a lying politician, I won't try to spin it in my favor and in doing so, insult anyone's intelligence. I didn't "MISSPEAK" when using the term Kool-aid, I was just plain and simply wrong in using it. Esee is a great knife and for the money, is as good as it gets considering the warranty that goes with the very high quality in them. I don't know if I read one too many articles that day on ESEE Knives and was sick of hearing about them for some reason, or if it was late at night, but in any case I joined the HUGE club of people who should not post comments without being of sound mind and body. Thanks for calling me on it and giving me a chance to correct myself. Well, back to watching the games.

+wjf213. I will agree that there seems to be a lot of people on RU-vid these days that have multiple Esees they review, and most don't even have a scratch :) I only own the 6, which i love, along with a small becker and probably a half dozen moras (which do a good job at a great price for most things). like you I put the tools to use! enjoy the games :)

Oh I have more than my share of safe queens, but I also have many that I use all the time as well. I have Randall model 18's and 14's that have been used since the 70's when I bought them. I remember when I paid $75 for my first Randall back in the early 70's, everyone thought I was nuts. I also have several Parrish knives, and the hollow handle knife with the copper rivet leather sheath, I still use and have since the early 80's when I got it. I have 3 Busse Battle Mistresses that I bought in the 90's and one I have used the crap out of. Now the Busse thing....THAT IS border line kool aid drinking there with that cult following. haha I have a few more Busse's as well, but they're never used at all. I have Lile's, Hibben's, Wagaman's, several that were used in movies and many others. I know I have over 300 custom knives and countless factory made blades. I just love knives and seeing the craftsmanship that goes into making them.

Only way I would beat on my ESEE 5 is in a dire emergency, I like the coating and I carry a chance in hell I beat on. I love and baby my ESEE and coat it regularly with Teflon.i bought the molle and the same thing you have $300 bucks later I have my dream knife,the izula on my neck plus the arrowhead mounted on the front of my izula. Only thing I have not got is the fire starter. Ferro rod. I even bought the survival cards for my survival tin.it has been on my wish list forever. I really

I find it funny you say you would never baton with the ESEE 6 and are dumbfounded when folks break their knives yet you chop with it which is as damaging if not more so especially on dense hardwoods like in the SW. Ive damaged more knives chopping than batoning. Use a axe to split a machete to chop but in a survival scenario I use what I got to do what I must.
@ScoutTactical
@ScoutTactical 8 лет назад
I see your point but my chopping was just clearing little vines and limbs from bushes on trails in my hunting area. no major chopping

Say Heah, Originally I Piggybacked my Rodent 4 with my Rodent 7, But I switched my Rodent 4 for my Rodent 3, I then Piggybacked my Rodent 4 with my Rodent 9, If you want to see how it looks, Go to Google Plus and search Paulie 4X and tell me what you think Ok. ,, .

Well, a clip point will make it worse for chopping.
