I began my journey in Martial Arts 28 years ago. Kyokushin and Isshin-Ryu Karate for the first 9 years. I then went to South Korea and studied Tang Soo Do for a year. And then lived in Japan for seven years where I trained in Shorinji Kempo and again in Kyokushin for two of those years. It was while I was in Japan I met a Filipino man who started to teach FMA to me. I was instantly hooked, my wife is Filipina and it helped me better understand the culture, but I was really hooked by the fact that it was so drastically different than other arts I had studied. And it seemed to me that the deadliness of the art was still present. I do not agree that any Martial Art is better or worse than another, as it is the student where the difference really exist. That said, as far a functionality for real world defensive purposes, I can see very few that are on par with FMA. A beautiful art from a beautiful culture yes, but do not be confused...it still remains a very deadly art form that should be respected. Mabuhay !
JoeyNahigugmaNene I couldn’t agree more. Avid PTK practitioner with years of experience in other martial arts. Other styles are awesome In here own way but the FMAs by and large are the most comprehensive systems of self preservation still in existence.
Despite carrying facial scars from an attack with a broken bottle when I was drunk (and so it was really my fault), it was the Filipino martial arts I had studied that saved my life.
Absolutely Incredible!! As an Eskrimador, I was locked to the screen throughout, and found the entire documentary fascinating, especially learning about the history of this absolutely Incredible Martial Art.
it was great to see a little footage with Greg Alland in this doc … He was one of a kind had his own unique skill set nobody moved quite like Greg and I'm honored to have trained with him even if it were for a short while . He needs to get more recognition for his contributions to the art of FMA.. SINA TERSIA WALI…. R.I.P Guro …" Have Sticks Will Travel "
I wish this Filipino Martial Art will continue and grow as wild same with other discipline likes Judo, Karate and Taekwondo. And be part of the regular events in the Olympics or at least in the ASIAN games (different from SEA games). But the main issue is MOST Pinoys are not interested to learn this fighting art nor knowing it. Filipinos are addicted in Basketball. The government should focus and spend lots of money for this. I'm an Eskrima-Kali-Arnis fighter, instructor and trainer since 1994. Also I'm a former member of the Philippine ARMY Arnis Team 👊🥋🥇
*Since my childhood I was always fascinated by the beauty of Eskrima/Arnis/Filipino martial arts, one day I will surely visit Cebu to experience it.* A humble karate student from India
Sir I would like to ask you, is there any chance that your ancient martial art of Kalaripayatt & our martial art Eskrima are kind of related or not? Just want to learn if it's true or not, thanks.
Thank for this documentary. My father was from the Philippines. He told me of the art when I was a kid growing up in the 70s. He knew some of the movements. I wish I’d of leaned.
Eskrimadors, is one of the most concise & insightful documentaries, in which covers besides Filipino martial arts, many historical locations, along with many mystical hidden aspects of the Philippines as well. This is a documentary highly recommended for all of those that are teaching or practicing Filipino martial arts. Thank you for sharing, and hopefully there will be more follow-up videos to come. Regal Regards, JW Networks
Very good video. Thank you for sharing. I think more of our people should be practicing our martial arts and also learning our original writing of baybayin. They are an important part of our culture no matter what tribe or from which part of the Philippines you come from.
This is amazing! A well research video of famous eskrimador in the Philippines... I have been looking for this for a while....Spread the word and awareness! Salamat!
Wow great video. Im a long-time resident of your beautiful country. My art is Kenjutsu. I have great respect for Arnis. Very effective and elegant. Arnis ichi-ban!
I salute you for uploading and gathering amazing vedio, history and cultural FMA..Thank you somuch big salute for you! The questions in my mind are answered through this vedio .
My grandfather cannot be touched even at age 80 with only 1 functional eye with his ARNIS. He teaches us the art of ARNIS when we were young. I can still use a stick to defend myself.
My grandfather was taught by the native Filipino, but the saddest part was he never taught his children and my father( my papa learned it from someone else) did not also teach us. what a great teaching.
Maybe because fma is a deadly type of martial arts, an easy one to learn but a hard art handle. It will take alot of patience and dicipline to be able to stay calm and avoid conflict once you possesed this art.
I love our own native art so much and even our national symbols and cultures, and escrima is featured in my fanfiction novel on wattpad, a tough police officer who also was a escrimador fought and killed the iconic monster in science fiction, the "predator" using filipino martial arts in a one on one honorable duel.
If they make an action movie of this (47:04). This would make the martial arts famous and known not only in the country but also to the outside... Kids and teenager would get interested to learning the arts.. Not bcoz it was needed in school but bcoz they are willing to learn..
Grabe sa pagka-gripping ang mga narrative. delivered in Cebuano. A lot gets lost in. translation. But. still very goodeven if in English, Bunal. dungab, sumbag. Ngilngiga ning istoryaha!!!
A good thing that are able to find peace and establish a brotherhood instead of always only fighting and creating intrigues. It shows that they despite widely being regarded as a development-country are more civilized than many industrial-countries. If they can do it then wealthier countries must be able to do so as well.
My mother is from Basilan and I have many relatives from the Sulu region of the Philippines (Jolo, Tawi Tawi, Sitangkai, etc), so I wish they could have gone into the fighting arts of the Moros in the Philippines. Because Bangsamoro is much more closely related to Malaysians (the Sultanate of Sulu and the Sultanate of Brunei were once very closely connected to each other), some of the martial arts of the Moros are forms of Pentjak Silat. I'd be curious if any Filipinos combined the essence of silat and kali.
Eskrima was not exist back in 1500's🤣🤣 It was literal sword fighting! Eskrima existin a war due to Spanish colonization in north because of lack of equipment in a jungle They created this style and now it became a sports,,
I'm training in balintawak this time, and I became more eager with boiling blood since I always heard in the news the there are young maidens got rape and murdered especially the murder of the child actress judith eva barsi, I become more eager to train with the hope that my training in martial arts can save someone's life and bright future one day even if it cost me my own life, not just to defend myself and my family. Eskrima will be the equipment I have in my arsenal if that time will come.
I wish you include Sifu Dan Inosanto in this Documentary, I think he deserves a respect as a modern Ecrima Master, he started training with Bruce Lee and other Hollywood Actors, Athletes including the late Bruce Lee himself, he improvise the Kali, Arnis, Escrima, Jet June Do and other Filipino Martial Arts Style..🇵🇭 🤜
Do you practice in the dark night? Where you can't see light in front of you? If my enemy is darkness but that's what consumes me am I defined by light?

wonderful video. I have a yt channel as well, even though it is not focused on martial arts I do have a bit up. I'd like, if you could find the time, for you to go to my channel and have you evaluate my martial arts videos. Always looking for feedback from a skilled martial artist.
Lapu lapu is the sultan of mactan he told Magellan and his crew to leave the islands or him and his crew will all be beheaded not even the finest swordsman and fencers can match lapu lapu and his escrima art
Luis Fernandez that's not a fairy tale you dumbass they didnt reign all the lands there are some lands that they couldnt take you dumbass. You dont know shit my history so shut the fuck.
1. Its 333 years not 100 years 2. You hide behind cannons 3. Kali/Escrima are considered the most advanced practical modern blade system in the world and are now a core component of the U.S. Army's Modern Army Combatives program and used by the Russian Spetsnaz. 4. Can i use Spanish swordmanship as self defense today on street? 5. 1889 We managed to kick the Spanish out of the country using only Bolo knife and improvised weapons. 6. Spanish didn't totally conquered Philippines good example is the Cordillera region there is a place called Benguet try to visit that place and look for any presence of Spaniards goodluck. It was protected by the Igorot and never submit to Spanish slavery they defend it using only sword, spear and bow against Spanish rifles and cannons 6. Spanish conquered us and killed hundreds for what? land? resources? slavery? Spanish destroy other culture and try to erase traces of our ancestors and you are so proud of that?
cj llaneta Spanish only lasted for a 100 years agmfter that they were killed and pushed out by the katipuneros and yeah the navy seals and elite special forces would be nothing without our knowledge of the arts.
now we are the once who are invading in martial Arts world and alot of other nationalities love FMA. the reason why the invasion Philippines lasted for 100 yrs. its because we are innocent and we dont love fighting but we love to defend our country even it will cost our lives.
