For fitness purposes, the DEp Ed could have added this to our PE classes. The skill i learned from my grandfather have saved me from 4 hooded lads in the dark alley of London. 3 knives against a 2 feet blue MDPE pipe i picked on top of the bin during the attack. As being mentioned by master Rodel, i learned a 'play' not for aggression but adequate enough not to piss on my pants when situation jump on my plate ...My appreciation for this epic videography and documentary too....oh, and Tanduay is the king's drink... tagay!

@@kevin080592 I was cornered between the bin and the wall when I pick up the pipes. I didn't make any intimidating movements until the right moment...distance, angle and analysis on point of exit if I can't manage. Then everything was a blur.. one screaming holding his wrist (I hope i didn't break it), the 2 on the floor. The other one didn't move but I heard him say, I've seen that one in Marrix! as I walk away

It really often seem that the filipinos underestimate the FMA. And some are suprised that other martial arts who are more famous, stole many of their techniques from it. Did you know that Karate was partly a ripoff of Kali, for example? Also, Kali had a very big influence to Bruce Lees fighting style, second only to Wing Chun. FMA itself, is partly original and partly by influences of the early chinese trade - but itself inspired quite a lot of others. Filipinos too often look for other countries and cant see the rich history in their own :/
@Yk-if3ev
@Yk-if3ev 3 года назад
@@i-am-your-conscience Many in the Philippines know this Martial Art. But many were mostly taught to avoid fighting. In many cases, fighting or anything to do with it is rather "taboo" in the Philippines. This is only partly the reason, why most Filipinos do not practice it.

@@i-am-your-conscience did you also know that eskrima also influenced if not revolutionized boxing in so many ways from the blocks to the stance and to the punching techniqes. Observe basic boxing punches it really resembles knife angles, slashes and stabs. During the 18th century the americans first introduced boxing to the filipinos, it was once called queensburry boxing due to the fact that this type of boxing follows tge qieensburry ruleset. Many filipinos were hooked to the sport but to the suprise the americans have observed that filipinos have a habit of raising their arms up much like the modern guard today, and as a result it was very effective to say tge least. Because of the americans discovery they quickly adopted the filipino way of boxing because of how practical it is. FMA has always been evolvimg but retained thier traditions, martial arts that are sticking to tradition without evolution is stuck in the past. Im not being patriotic here, Im just doing my research because of my love and utmost respect for the filipino martial arts.

We are 7,000 islands and almost same number tribal leaders with own dialects and manner or culture to defend themselves against each other. Every tribe has their own form and style of martial arts (if you call it that way) and improvised weapons and blades of different sizes ( from 3 inches (shortened pencil to kitchen knife, to Bolo to Kampilan) In my own opinion, The King's Blade is the daily Bolo or knife that a typical Filipino using every day in the Kitchen, Garden or in the mountains. The one that he carries in his waist or stucked on the right side of his foot.

It should be called “Kali”. coz Arnes & Eskrima are both loaned words from colonizers. while “Kali” is indigenous from “Kalis”, the Filipino ancient sword originally used in that Martial Art and was replaced with Bamboos. It will also make sense, when Hindu war goddess is named Kali. presence of Hinduism has been around ancient Philippines, from gold artifacts of idols.

Grew up in Cebu City pretty much most of the masters were actually my neighbors. The Romo's, Marangga's and the Canete's. Romo was just a quite simple man, while Marannga was a police Major, Canete became famous because he had a school and took students both local and from abroad. How I wish to have learned from these Masters but at that time I was learning Karate. Arnis was not as popular as it is today. Now people from all over the world are flying to the Philippines to learn FMA.
