This series is absolutely fantastic. For many considering purchasing a boat, the series brings home just how much wear and tear a boat sustains and how detailed plans must be in order to do the re-fit properly. The videos have great momentum and are well done. I have learned so much viewing them. Thank you!
Hey Tim. Thank you so much for the positive comment. This kind of feedback keeps us motivated. Long may you continue to enjoy the vlog. Fair winds to you.
Cheers, Renny. I've just recorded the first of the led lights going up in the gallery. Electricians aren't in the yard add often as the carpenters so it's slow progress. Emphasis on getting the mast and deck fittings sorted first so we can take the tent down.
[Liz] Absolutely right, we wouldn't advise anyone to leave the project in someone else's hands, you have to be there every day. Mind you, since our refit we probably wouldn't leave the boat in any country to have work done! No-one understands your boat like yourself. Peace and fair winds!
love the vids. Gives a great view on a complete "overhaul" One question: when refitting the screws & co, why did U opt to re-use the slotted screws instead of for example using Phillips head or even imbus/hex head screws?
Hi ForSeTi Trimaran. Good question, but perhaps what doesn't come across in the video are all the bolts and screws we DID replace with Philips. Although it would have been ideal to replace every bolt we did re-use some of the old ones. We probably replaced about 90% of the fittings.
Will you need to lift off the larger table when you're at sea rolling around? I'm yet to see a fastening mechanism for it. This is an excellent series that is very valuable to a wannabe sailor like myself. Thank you so much for doing it and fair winds! It looks like PPS have increased their rates since your refit as most labourers are 800+ THB now. Are they negotiable on daily rates for an extensive refit such as yours?
It's always worth negotiating but for a normal yard labourer it's doubtful. You'll have to get in touch and see what they say. The table, BTW, is rarely up! We don't use it much so it's stowed away 99% of the time. It creates so much more space!
cool to see how much goes into the refit. plus some good stuff you never though of about a boat. i'd like to know how many square feet of sandpaper was used? and the total cost of the refit.
Hi humdrummed We bought a100m roll of 80 grit for the hull and probably used twice as much as that over all. Total cost will be revealed in Sailing Today magazine first before we talk about costs on RU-vid.
