100%. Obviously they are gonna get a few prospects which we know no matter how highly they are rated, they are a lottery ticket and you could end up with nothing. This move needs to reset everything for them. Offloading that much money as well as not committing 50-60 million a year to Ohtani would set them up very well in the off-season where they need to be aggressive to build a team around Trout for the tail-end of his prime.
Ohtani played in a city of OVER 5M PPL TOKYO IS A CITY OF 13.9M, and he dealt with being the focus of that media for longer than he’s been in America. LA is 3.9M ppl And ppl think he’d struggle in NEW YORK? 😂😂😂😂😂 The guy has been playing in far bigger cities his entire career. You guys are wild thinking he’d have any trouble with the “bright lights” of NY.
Valid points, however he is the apple of his home countries eyes. In New York he will have to earn everything he gets in terms of flowers from the media. I don't doubt Ohtani but the NY media is unlike anything in the world.
@@justadude2800 he was criticized here in Japan every single day. During the first few year of his career before he became a star. Boo is better. He was absolutely mocked in degraded in SNS. you dont know.
@@friguy9246 he was criticized here in Japan every single day. During the first few year of his career before he became a star. Boo is better. Ohtani has never said he likes west coast. And as a Japanese myself, flying to Japan from west coast is already enough stressful. Few hours longer flight is no big deal. Why Ohtani chose Angels was just simple reason. They promised to let him play 2way & will give full support to stay 2way.
I'm a major Ohtani fan, but this discussion has become so repetitive and tiresome. Virtually nothing in this is real news. I've heard it all by now. I've read that Ohtani doesn't really care for Dodger Stadium or Yankee Stadium, and it's pretty clear he doesn't enjoy colder weather that will affect his ability to perform at the peak level. But the most logical place for him to land if he wants to win and wants the west coast conditions is still with the Dodgers. I don't like the Dodgers and have rooted against them for years, but they're definitely the team of prominence in that major LA market and a team that has a history of being successful getting deep into the playoffs.
@@wilburwood8261 You're betting with the options that are highest % to happen. Could be right, could be wrong. Don't sound so totally positive when you are still just doing an educated guess.
That would be a good idea. I remember teams trading their stars away, under the condition that the other team take their bad contracts too. So you can have Ohtani, but you have to take Rendon too.
Yeah man....i think that would be the smartest idea...you could great value for trout and ohtani...I mean if they lose ohtani for a compensatory pick that would be crazy.
Which is why I'm so glad they swept the Yanks. It shows Ohtani that the Yankees aren't going to be any more competitive than how the Angels currently are right now.
The NYY are worst than the Angels even though the Angels are 1 game behind the Yanks. Rich Eisen is premature about the Angels playoff chances. The Angels are expecting Trout to be back by mid-August to end of August. Judge should be back about the same time. Both teams are in similar situations. Rodon looks bad. He should pivot and declare that the Yanks will be sellers at the deadline.
People who've actually watched the Angels season will know that they were well above .500 and in a wild card spot before literally the ENTIRE TEAM, including Trout, got hurt all at once a couple weeks before the all-star break. Context people
if George Steinbrenner still here, Ohtani would be a Yankee already. He wouldn't sit in NY and wait for Ohtani to stood them up. He would go where ever to meet with him 5 years ago.
If Trout got $450m five years ago, Ohtani should get $750 million because 1) Inflation 2) He should get $35m/year as a pitcher + $35m/year as a hitter 3) Trout is a media anomaly and basically unknown outside baseball while Ohtani transcends popular culture like MJ or LeBron so he will sell $750 million in jerseys alone over 10 years plus glue worldwide eyeballs to screens while Trout hides under his hat.
Play 2 ways was his first prority and it wasn't so popular idea 5 years ago. National league didn't have DH back then and Angels was the only organization that let Ohtani do whatever he wants.
@@funkya1840 I'm sure the Astros would have let him do whatever he wanted. He was one of the most hyped foreign players in some time, especially considering his yearly salary. I'm curious how much the appeal of Southern California had to do with it.
@@zsefton The teams that Ohtani interviewed was Cubs, Rangers, Dodgers, Giants, Padres, Mariners and Angels after inquiring paper presentation of how the organization would value Ohtani as a two way player. It was said Ohtani chose Angels due to: 1. Angels did not give him time limit in becoming a successful two way player 2. Ohtani wanted emulate Trout to become a better hitter. 3. S. Cali. whether is ideal for conditioning. 4. Marketability of Ohtani with a large Japanese community in S. Cal. 5. American league had D.H. to suit Ohtani's game plan as a two way player.
The Dodgers and Shohei are a perfect fit for each other, like two matching puzzle pieces. Any talk of him going to any other team is absurd to me, and just wishful thinking.
Thinking Shohei is going nowhere because he is just too financially valuable to Arte. Everything surrounding Shohei that is sold comes with the Angels attached.
"Best Player of all time" cant even get his team to .500. Like He is a special player yet he chose the Angels even when they didnt have a winning record before he got their and still havent. He didnt have winning as his most important thing and he might be frustrated yet like Aaron Rodgers though t first he was happy to be not in the biggest spotlight. Like Cashman said he wants to be in the West Coast yet didnt at the time want to be in a big market and NL teams knew in a few years the DH was coming and you can check their was articles about Ohtani trying out for the OF with the Angeles so BS he chose the Angels for just their DH. He is not Matsui as Matsui dined with reporters and Ohtani is too scared to pitch at Yankees stadium. I would luv him yet he is somebody who wants to be with the Dodgers as its the closest he could deal with. Winning isnt his most important thing he needs.
Walked past Jeremy Schapp in 2009 in NYC and he looked at me like he knew me. I'm a big guy *.. Gave head nod 😂 Wanted to tell him I love his work but it wasn't meant to be 🍻
