I was at a game when Dwayne 'Earl the Pearl ' Washington made a Last Shot to Win the Game! It was truly incredible! We were all on our feet and honestly off the court you really didn't hear him. He was a humble guy.
REST IN PEACE PEARL. YOU WERE A BOUNTIFUL BLESSING WHO TAUGHT US HOW TO LOVE ALL THAT IS BEAUTIFUL. YOU ARE ONE FOR THE LIFE LIST 30. PAT FROM LONE OAK.
Saw him play in person just once: a preseason game in 1988 when he was with the Miami Heat in Daytona Beach, FL. And he still flashed a vintage Pearl move that night.
I was a 12 year old kid screaming my head off in the Carrier Dome when Pearl made the half court shot against Boston College. At age 27, I had the privilege of running into the Pearl by chance at the mall as we were both getting tuxedos for our respective weddings. Pearl was gracious enough to talk with me at length, and I shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ with him. It was such a great moment, and he was such a nice guy. When he passed away, it was simply devastating.
@@rockchalk9078 Not on that day I talked to him. I do hope he did at some point before he drew his last breath, but I have no knowledge one way or the other if he ever did.
A kid in my town went to a basketball camp and the Pearl was there. This was in the 80s or early 90s. He played Pearl 1 on 1 to 11. Make it - take it. Pearl told him: "Kid, I have to score 11 points. But if you touch the ball just 1 time, you win. " Kid said he never touched the ball and Pearl won 11-0
before he played at boys he was at norman thomas hs manhattan. i remember trying out for the team to no avail. while pearl was just playing around on the side line dribble --- he didn't even have to try out he was already selected on the team..... pearl was one of the greats------ loved him.......
I think Pearl got by on natural ability his whole career and never really worked hard at his game that's why he didn't have a great pro career. He was an amazing ball handler and passer.Never afraid to make the clutch play whether it be shot or pass.Top 5 All Time in the Big East!
