The new phones are not clean! The sticker can be put on over dust from the factory. You still need to clean the screen before putting on the screen protector.
They were both brand new phones, I think the first phone had lots of bubbles because I did it on a piece of cloth. It's probably best to do it on a hard clean surface like I did the second time.
