My workmates son plays for Peel Thunder and as he said when Matt Rosa was there he was ruthless with The list and it worked , so I'm happy he is at the Bombers
@@user-vq3qu5zx3n Amen. Those and the Redman deal are going to haunt us for years. What message are you sending to the youth in the team by rewarding these guys?
Not overly bothered about losing Laverde and Stringer as much as I will miss them, but really don't want to lose Hobbs. We need to keep the young guys.
Exactly right. I will be very happy if Lavarde is gone. But Stringer..don't know if this a media beat up or really true. Looks like he is pissed off because he didn't get what he wants. Realistically, Stringer hasn't got many years left in him, but he was one of our major goal kickers. We need to keep Hobbs.
We have to be realistic. He's not gonna be a part of our next premiership is he.... I love him, but enough being the same old same old essendon. I'm all for a new approach.
@@everythingessendon548 He could have been a top 10 player in the comp. Its not Essendons fault he isnt. If he had Zach Merret's drive ..... if... if.... Shit can turn around fast if you have the right pieces. Hawks are a prime example. I still don't believe they have the best players in the comp - yet, but they are doing the fundamentals supremely well. They are well drilled. And that is the overarching feeling you get from successful clubs. Longmire.... the other Scott.... Their teams are ALWAYS well drilled. We need people with intensity, heart and attitude. Is Stringers attitude good enough - no Is Laverde a starting backman at any club - no Is Kevin Sheedy going to win us a premiership - no Was Daddoro good at picking top 10 talent - no Do we have any dangerous pressure fwds - no Is Essendon again doing the same shit it does every year with the same people..... finally..... no And this in my opinion is the only way we can finally move on from being stuck in nostalgia mode.
Stringer is likely to be a mistake of 'D,Ambrosio' proportions. (We let him go for a packet of peanuts.) Stringer is about 12th in the goal kicking contributing 42 goals for the year. He is one of the very few match winners we have. The club was cock-a-hoop about getting Gresham...he could only manage 19 goals.
Hes 31, only gonna get slower, proven hard to motivate and still has currency to some degree. And we NEED to get draft capital for kako. If you have a different idea to bring in Kako, please by all means let us know what that is. We need to invest in the future, not get stuck in the same old same old Essendon. Wishing we could be a good side.
@@JMKeynes8491 spot on Keynesian Theory ✌️. Hopefully you are wrong but I don't think that you are. Adem Saad is mates with Laverde and Stringer. If we get pumped by Carlton next year who do we blame?
Stringer is to hot and cold and clearly was playing for a bag. We give him what he wants and are stuck with him for the next 2 years. Think of it this way, if we give Stringer what he wants the deal for 2 years then are we any closer to making the finals let alone winning a final?? No, Will he be a top 3 contender for the Coleman? No, Will he win us a brownlow? No, so what benefit is there in giving him a 2 year deal? The club comes first
Totally agree ... young players are hungry for success and aren't sitting back on a career's worth of high earnings ... The young hawks are showing it now and the baby bombers did it before. We don't want to keep limping to the middle of the table for the next two years and then find Gold Coast and Tasmania loaded to the nines with future stars ... got to get them in now and be a strong team of mid 20's guys in a couple of years. The window to win a final was this year ... they pulled in some experienced heads, and it didn't get them over the line ... time for change.
If stringer stayed..Great. But if rumors are true it may be best for both parties. It lookS like Rosa has looked at the list with fresh eyes and found a few holes. We have the basis of a competitive team, if we can bring in some talent through the draft, players with quality disposal, work on player roles and game plan then the future becomes promising.... Stringer moving on may give Perko the chance in that role??
@@everythingessendon548 should be looking at putting more responsibility on Perkins, Guefli, Gresham, 2m Peter, Jones and Caddy and Langers to step up.... Stringer was good - but likely was a crutch these other forwards leant on too much...
They are going to go. We'll be lucky if Zach Merret lasts much longer. You cannot excrete in your captains and top ten players face without ramifications. Hopefully we wake up to letting Essendon players . Who is Ross!?! A wannabe Too many traditional Carlton people became Essendon Supporters. Go Bombers!!!!❤.. Talk about throwing out the baby with the bath water!!!
@@LeoDamnics what are you on about? Merrett should know his place.. he is the Captain.. not list manager of Essendon!! He has no right to dictate which players get what... I think he overstepped the mark big time.. likely Stringer asked him to..
@@aussie_al I seriously can't understand people bringing up this money thing about mckay.... its irrelevant.... you don't win a prize for having more salary cap space available.... They are heavily front loading both gresham and Mckay. They will be on 400k for the last 2 years of their deals. We didnt have a defender..... Imagine having Weiderman as the fullback all year because BZT left, Ridley injured, Reid injured and Hayes not ready. That would have been horrible.
@@DrakenhaxHayes has been AFL ready for at least 2-3 months. He should been in the team over any of Laverde, Kelly and even McKay for the last 10 matches of the season when the typical second half to the season horrendous form started.
@@Drakenhax McKay is the big back man we needed. I don't get the hate either. People whine about the money, if we didn't have him we'd be rooted. Our golden patch this season he was killing it. One of the few backs to shut down Hogan.
I think the mini rebuild is a good option, especially with Tassie entering the comp in coming years. Stringer leaving will be a good thing in the long run, our forward line isn't functioning currently. I'd like to see us float the idea of trading Parish for a good draft pick. WE NEED CHANGE! Hopefully we see players like Hayes, El-Hawli, Tsatas, Reid, Hobbs get a good run at it next year.
Can we replace Stringer with Liam McMahon for almost nothing? Kicked 45.15 in the VFL including 7.0 against the cats. Got to start building a list with players that can use the ball.
Good luck to stringer. All emotion aside, I think Essendon is doing the right thing, given Stringer's overall performance vs cost/potential, and Stringer is doing the right thing for himself, given his own career potential and last few years to make a solid income. I suspect he would actually play better and earn more money somewhere new. If he stays at Essendon he, at best, just repeats 2024 and does not help the future of the club. I would not criticize players for not being passionate about the club and playing - this is their job and not everyone is always passionate - but Essendon needs some more passion and Stringer is not adding to that, so maybe timely for Essendon & Stringer to part ways. He's been great at the club and wish him all the best.
adding to that I wouldn't use FA this year, trade out only for late draft picks for Kako but take a second/third pick in the rookie draft for depth players.
Can i ask a question? What about 2mtr peter as trade capital. He ended up playing ressies football and looked a shadow of his former self. Could get a high pick just because he is a key forward.
Well something needs to be done at Bomberland and it must start with being ruthless. If Jake could stay on the park, keep fit and have a big season next year he would earn another year. Its not as if the club hasn't learnt some lessons over the years with him.
Can't really see that happening Bruce. If Stringer's gone and even if Kako comes straight in, Langford will still be needed in front of the ball. There's no surity that 2MP will even be in the AFL side and Caddy is still far too immature to take on a Key forward role. Speaking of Caddy, he'll really need to rely on Langford's experience... especially if Jake Has done the runner. Weideman? Just keep him away from the ball, (further away the better) so the ball is safe from HIM!
I'm loving rosa and scot its been the best ever thing to happen in Essendon since iv been a a supporter how exciting go brad scot and mat rosa All the best
He scored 1 less goal than Langford... who was not a genuine key forward but due to necessity was turned into one in 2023 - (what does that tell you?) - think this puts more on Peter Wright, Langford, Harrison Jones and Caddy to step up...
@antonalbo We know that we can get another 40+ goals from Langford and a fit Stringer but if they think they'll get the equivalent out of Wright then they are delusional. People are not thinking about the pressure and tackles that Stringer brings not to mention his goal assists. Wright does not trap the ball in, he's a lot slower and certainly doesn't chase. Wright used to be a strong mark and lead but now he's useless. I really don't know where we are going to get any goals from. And about Stringers age, i was shocked when i heared Zorko was 35 and look at the game he put in on the weekend. Stringer has to have 1 more year. Period
@@aussie_al nope - the moment your club is being held to ransom by the player - you are cooked... let him go and demand more from the other players to step up and kick more goals in 2025... period...
@@antonalbo We can demand all we like, but like i said in another comment, 42+ goals don't grow on trees. At this point, i can't see anyone capable enough to kick more than 30 at a stretch. This year, we kicked 56 more pts more than we did in 2023 and we had more pts against even though we had the million $ man back there. We need heaps more goals from the players you mentioned but won't fill the void of Stringers contributions in the immediate future. Double period
Dont give up Hobbs. He hasn’t broken out yet and isn’t worth much, but as a still young high draft pick, his upside is huge. Yup time to move on some of these older guys though. Like Stringer, but is he going to get better now or slowly get worse? And Laverde is better than not in our best team. You can’t put Reid, who cant stay on the park, in front of him. And they already delisted one backman in Baldwin, dangerous to do another.
I have an idea, send Stringer to Pies, but keep paying him, now the play is, make sure he plays well all year, but come finals make sure he has his worst game ever and deliberately misses shots to ensure they can't win the flag. Your loyalty will always be remembered Stringer. If you're truly the package you will do this.
This is what I see: Poor Jake Stringer is a victim of his own circumstance. He's got a wife and 4 young kids at home who neeed constant support. I'm absolutely sure that Jake would love to be out there running laps and pumping iron, but he'd be folding 40 nappies every bloody day and endlessly cleaning up and helping his Mrs at home. This is where Jake is his own victim, young single blokes have all day to run and jump... though when you've got a house full of screaming kids and a wife who needs constant emotional support (for managing all those bloody kids) while Jake's trying to concentrate on kicking accurately. All things considered, Jake Stringer would be the first to tell you that 2024 has been one of the busiest years he's ever had... because he's just as busy at home as he is while he's at work. I've always admired him, especially the way Bevo got tired of him... and I really had higher hopes for him at Essendon than what he Has delivered. This is for Jake personally... Jake, I hope you've got your house paid off mate.
If he does want out and needs a home. North Melbourne are perfect, Clarko is desperate for some older heads in the club to help teach the youth what they know.
Ok then, send him to North then Essendon can swap him with Nick Larkey... throw in both the Davey twins as colateral. THEN we'll see our forwards kick a few.
Glad Stringer might be going. Has turned up in pretty ordinary condition a number of years, excepting this year when he had a contract up for renewal. Goodbye Jake - hasn’t been anything like what it could have been.
My dad told me that stinger will play his last game for Essendon and people think he will go to Collingwood, but he can toe if he wants he is a legend!
Goldie's too nice a bloke to a ruck coach, who remembers Wil Minson from the Dogs. Only 193 cms, though absolutely lethal and ruthless in the ruck... he kicked the shit out of everyone he ever came up against. That's the mindset that's needed around the joint, Matty Lloyd's been saying for the past 20 years that Essendon need that killer instinct, they sure bloody do! I doubt Goldie's gonna contribute to that.
So how much is he worth and for how long ? He got paid very well in 2022 and 2023 and in those seasons he turned up way overweight and unfit. He kicked 25 and 21 goals respectively. He got 40 this year at 30 years old and we still didn’t make finals. People got short memories about 22 and 23 and how unprofessional he was. Not going to be around for next tilt at finals so time to let him go if he’s holding out for more.
Forwards like stringer are hard to come by. If we cant get something decent, no point in trading him. Even our second pick at 28 is hit and miss, got to be better than that. Not like we cant afford to pay him. Looks like nobody wants to come to us, so we cant even spend what we have. I wouldnt take any of those bargin options
So whats your suggestion? Ride the capital we have in to the ground and continue to be mediocre forever while we watch repeats of the 1984-85 1993 2000 grandfinals?
If stringer was a committed player he wouldn't be concerned about his contract. He would play his best footy next year and earn a new deal. Instead he wants security so he can get fat and be uncompetitive. Let him go and the bombers can get hungry younger players for the future.
@@everythingessendon548 I don't disagree, but he has security for next year already. History shows us when he is secure his performance drops off significantly, so I'm happy with the one year he has and as player of the game he should understand that at his age is rare to get multi-year deals
If Stringer really is saying he's played his last game then he needs to be traded regardless. He's checked out of the team and frankly we don't need players putting themselves above the club anymore, enough of that. Disappointed in Merrett as he is supposed to be the captain of the Essendon Football Club and that position should be held above him being mates with Stringer and Laverde. The club should come first before his high school clique bullshit. He's supposed to be more mature than that and is the reason he was named captain. We absolutely should fight tooth and nail for Hobbs, Stringer should be gone as I said and I would rather not lose Laverde but maybe this clique with Merrett, Stringer and Laverde is what's wrong with the culture at our club. I don't know.
Yeah lets lose our most proific goal kicker who would kick more if delivery wasnt the worst in the comp….. like u wouldnt ger rid of parish , gresham or wright first … Essendon have no idea ….shambles
He kicked 42 goals and gave off an untold amount of goal assists. His run and chase to keep the ball in our fwd 50 was excellent. This year was the fittest I've seen him the Bombers and i can see no reason why he couldn't do that again.
@@aussie_alHe only played as well as did because it was basically a contract year just like 2021.That's his primary motivation and as soon it is fulfilled, his form immediately drops off the following year and he ends up becoming injury prone again.
Don't go near him Richard, he's had back surgery... 31 years old mate. We're far better to get in some hairy arse kid for the future. All the older blokes are banged up, even Tim Membrey... who's a very good player. His time has already gone though. Keep playing the kids mate, they're the future. Lewis Hayes is the perfect example, though they refuse to play him... absolutely inexplicable.
Ok , get rid of stringer ,..... But find another 42 goals ,......keep looking cause I can't see anything out there,..... We need another 84 goals , who is going to do that??!!
Probably no one so bring some kids up so that 2 or 3 years time they will do it, and maybe do it for the next 8-10 years. Stringer licked 25 and 21 goals in the previous 2 years so let’s not make he is a 40 plus bloke every year. In fact the condition he turned up in in both those years was pretty poor if you recall. Nah the bloke has been paid overs for what he had done for us.
@GraemeCook-eh1wl No one next year, until Essendon find a coach from somewhere to "coach the mids" to deliver the ball directly to the Key forwards. Our key forwards next year? Peter Wright is one of the most lethal key forwards in the entire league... but can't get the ball delivered to him, same with Hairy Jones (though he marks from the edge, so effective when it works) and young tear arse Caddy. We've got forwards already, plenty in fact... next year IK. Bloody hell, he's gonna open some eyes. So, where's Essendon gonna get an Assistant coach for forward of the ball? Retire Stringer immediately, he's your next Forwards coach. So easy.
