I always set my listings to renew manually. Why? Several reasons. I don't want something that's not selling (whether nobody wants it or it's the wrong season for it) to be renewed. I also am of the opinion that Etsy likes to see that I check into my shop every day. When I have my morning coffee, I go into my shop and renew at least 2 listings. I sometimes edit listings that really don't need editing too. I move images around, move commas around, etc. I also fool with the shop announcement, the favorites, and the order that the products are presented. Doing all of this is most important when I haven't had the time or inclination to consistently list new product. I've had my shop since 2010 and am closing in on 30 thousand sales. Could it be far more? You bet! I still have to make videos and add more listing images and do all the things to make those babies stand out from the crowd. My point is that there's always work to be done and I believe that Etsy wants you in that store and working on a daily basis just as you would be with a brick and mortar place.

The only ones that I have set to Automatic are the listings that are making sales. Every other one I have set to Manual. The reason I’ve done this is because it allows me the review the performance of them. If they’re getting SOME views, but not as many as I’d like, I’ll work on the SEO and Photos (and design if I think it may need it) and renew it. And some are listings that I think are quality designs, but not getting much attention. In that case, I’ll make a COPY of it, rework everything but the design and upload the Copy.

There’s just so many Etsy guru click baits on RU-vid every day when I open the app, your channel gives the most valuable information literally, please keep doing it. And people need to like comment and subscribe, so RU-vid will be recommending this channel to more people !

So many benefits of having renewals set to MANUAL: if the listing is staling, I copy into a new one and tweak it. It's easier to keep track of stats. as I have over 750 listings per shop, I use the renewal to ad alt text to my main picture since I never did it at first. I take time to check out if pictures are ok, switch the thumbnail if need be, tweak title maybe. but the main reason is it gives me a chance to browse that listing once more and I have discovered so many typos and errors over time, like a price that was 1500 instead of 150, wrong colors in the attributes, SKU not added, missing a chunk in my description, etc. it's well worth a few minutes of my time each day. there is no upside of switching to automatic, really.

In the beginning, I had everything set to auto renew. But then it was renewing stuff that was dead sellers. If a listing hasn't sold anything, I don't want to renew it. Idk.. maybe I'm getting it wrong. But, that was my reason for turning it off.

Hi, I am happy with the new listing editor, I got used to it months ago, is a matter of being flexible with changes! About setting the automatic button I disagree with you. I have them set as manual, and those listings that end up expiring after 4 months, is because they are not selling at all, so why do you say you are loosing sales? I take those, revamp them, change foto's, seo, and relist them, that's the way I improve my store! And by the way I am doing double the sales I was doing on last year.

I like the new listing editor, but then I just opened my shop in June and I've never used the old one. I can do a listing very quickly and efficiently in it so I guess that's why I like it, plus I have nothing else to compare it to.

well i dont think it matters too much if its manual or auto. Etsy likes to hold onto your money as long as poss. So if you have say 40 .00 ready for payout, etsy will renew 5 or 6 listings ,take the payment for any etsy ads you have going and then give u the rest . Iam i right or am i wrong .lol

Definitely already had mine set to auto. Besides the benefits you listed, it's also one less thing to manage/remember. I started my shop in Sept 2023, so the new editor was already being suggested. I think you could choose to still use the old, but the new was the default. Since the new is what I'm used to, I guess I don't have much opinion about the old. In what ways was it superior?

It’s very difficult to put a listing in on a mobile device. The screen freezes. I do have the setting on automatic. Great advice!!

The new listing editor is absolute garbage! And if you want to go back into a listing and add another variation can't be done totally impossible forget it complete rubbish
