#shameless plug for Klook. It's worked flawlessly for me and really took the stress out of getting a tickets for trains I thought could sell out. I even grabbed my tickets for Shibuya Sky cause why not? Better than showing up and finding out the timeslot you wanted is full.

I have to keep watching Nathan's channels, because after three weeks in Japan I know less about what is going on, changing, previewing, and opening than I did from outside the country. If I need an update I come here, and frankly if I don't need an update I come here. So my advice is subscribe and follow.

While the Yen is very weak right now, restaurants have increased their prices all across the board, so it sort of evens out at the end of the day.

It looks like my last day in Japan in Tokyo will be right at full bloom! I'm ok with having earlier blooms for the rest of my trip, I'm hoping that will make some areas a bit less crowded. I leave in three weeks! The strength of USD to YEN certainly doesn't hurt by desire to go and spend money, other people who have done keep saying how expensive it is, but at the moment is seems pretty comparable to where I live in the US.

Going for a week to Osaka. Just one week before the Golden Week. Hopefully the Sakura is still somewhat in bloom.

It’s unlikely that they will still be Sakura around that time. However, there is always the late blooming Sakura scratch around which you will probably find.

14-day full pass is well-worth it if you go up and down Japan (e.g., Sapporo>Kanazawa>Beppu) like my wife and I do.

If you stay in a city for a longer period, then jr pass might not be a good choice. Instead, a city daypass might be even better

@@conget Agree. That’s why we end our trips in one of big cities after our pass expires so we can spend 5-6 days there and then fly out from there.

I've been worried about the cherry blossoms cause that's mainly what I'm going for this year and have had my dates booked back in the summer. I still think I'm a bit early since I'll be arriving March 20 but I'll be there for 3 weeks so I know I wont entirely miss them. But man, deciding on what dates I wanted to do my trip for was one of the most stressful and time consuming parts of planning this trip. Oh well, still looking forward to actually getting there and seeing everything!

i know what you mean! trying to guess when the blossom would be there when i booked last year for my trip of a lifetime, ive loved cherry blossom since being a child and have wanted to visit japan for decades, but it seems due to the blossom being early i will miss a lot of it, i even planned to travel around from tokyo to kanazawa, kyoto , osaka and then to aomori to try and make my chances higher of seeing them, i may just catch them on my day trip in hakodate 26 april

My wife and I also went for 3 weeks last March/April and kept our itinerary opened and went to places wherever blossoms took us or less-crowded (eg, Kumamoto, Ureshino, Yumura, and Sendai).

Question, I'll go to Japan from may 1th to 3th june, i was planning on buying the 21-days JR pass to cover part of my trip, but after de price rise i was confused if it still worth it. I was planning to cover: Odawara, Takayama, Kumamoto, Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Osaka (including day trips to Nara, Kobe and Himeji), Kyoto, Nagoya (Ghibli Park) and back to Tokyo in this 21 days. The prices buying them without the JR pass are a little cheaper, but do you think the JR pass have some kind of advantage? Amazing channel by the way!

Hi, it depends on how much cheaper, it certainly is very convenient to use the trains and book seats with the JR pass even if its a little more expensive

Question, I usually, or should say, used to get the 14 to 21 day regular JR Pass. I was there last year going again this year and thought I would just splurge and get the "green car" Pass and had planned on going to Kanazawa now that that leg of the Shinkansen is open, but did I understand you right I need an "additional" Pass to ride that line??

No no .. firstly the jr pass increased in price at the end of last year and it’s worth calculating individual single tickets against the pass.. there is a pass called the hokuriku arch pass that’s more afordable and covers the route to Kanazawa from Tokyo but doesn’t cover Tokyo to Kyoto/osaka direct .. check individual trips to see if it really is a saving

Okay, cool. I knew there was a new Shinkansen line going to the west in japan that was going to open up a lot of smaller towns, I don't remember some of the towns names but I know they were spending cash on stations to bring in much needed tourism bucks and thought that was it. I unsubcribed to all my channels last year but subscribed to you. Thank you for the quick reply.

Fuji is officially open from July onwards so you wont be able to find anything right now. No reservations needed for any shrines, if you visit them a second time after dark, its a different adventure. Way less people and the lights a very pretty.

Don’t worry about taxis! Just use the Yamanote line if you’re in Tokyo, it is a loop line which means that if you miss a stop, you can either move onto the track in the other direction or continue on the train and it will loop back to where you started

Google Maps + an IC card will do *all* the work for you. And even if you're slow and you miss a train, one will be by in another 5-6 minutes.

Hi, I’m going from Tokyo to Kyoto then to Osaka then back to Tokyo. I need three tickets for this trip and want the bullet train. So, I know Klook charges about $12.00 for each ticket. I don’t want to pay $36 for these tickets, can I book all three tickets at the same time and only pay $12.00?

Due to the mild winter this year, the cherry blossoms bloom about 10 days earlier than usual. This year's cherry blossoms in Tokyo will start blooming around mid- March and will disappear in about 10 days, so I don't think it will be possible to see cherry blossoms in Tokyo in April.
