A list of my preferred and functional mods for the Tundra and review of these items after long-term use ranging from 6 months to 3.5 years. I use my vehicle as a daily driver as well as to tow a 7,000lbs travel trailer across country several times per year. Here are the mods that I found useful. Let us know which ones you found useful in a half ton.

Great vid! I have a 2018 Crewmax TRD Off Road 4x4. First thing I did was get a Bak Flip Tri fold cover for my bed along with a Bed Rug bed liner. (Came stock with factory spray liner). Next Amp running board steps…for the family. Made it so much easier for wife and 2 small children to get in and out with ease. Especially starting out with infant car seats we can step up on the amp running board and buckle them in nice and snug. Next investment was one of those kid covers that hangs and buckles over the back of the seat so while the kids kick the seats with their little tennis shoes they don’t ruin the back of the seats. Functional for me. Lol.

One reason for carpet is sound proofing. In my line of work over the years, every work truck I drove had rubber mats which are easier to clean for sure. But for a luxury truck, I will take the carpet.

Nothing wrong with rubber and not carpet. As you said, everyone does not have the same use for the truck. In my case, I had many trucks in my life but now I have a luxury truck and NO more hauling. lol Might put some groceries in it. Maybe. @@kedrevs4037

Having a 2021 Tundra that I use to tow my travel trailer and utility trailer. Adding the transmission cooler was a must! As soon as I found out they didn’t come with one, I purchased one from Genuine Cooling Systems. I’m so glad I did and was lucky enough to install it when my truck only had a few thousand miles on it. Best investment I’ve made so far. Now I’m looking to install Line-X bed liner, bed mat, sway bar, air bags, and LED head/tail lights. After that I’m sure I’ll find more to get but I’d be pretty happy with my truck at that point.

I drive the exact same truck. I added an amp to my factory subwoofer. You couldn’t hear it at all. Now it sounds basically like a stock sub. Easy install. Big change in sound .

thanks for sharing, I know there ae many thinking about doing changes to the stock system.

I've been mad at my stock head unit for a long time. Today, I woke up from a long nap, and went at it. I'd just bought MAF cleaner to clean my airflow sensor, and took it to work on some electric components. I took the head unit apart, saw what the important pieces of it were, and sprayed the crap out of them. The CD player now works, and the volume knob now turns like new. I also sprayed the fuse marked 'head' in the box, not sure if it mattered but couldn't hurt.

For my new to me this summer 2019 TRD Sport in MGM, first mods were K&N air filter, TRD Exhaust, Diamondback HD cover, weather tech bump step, and the Toyota all weather mats.

Love those mods, very practical...especially the TRD exhaust. Need to let everyone know what is under that hood.

I cut a 5 inch hole in the skid plate creating a access hole and cover of the hole for filter change. I had to remove the skip plate to install the Genuine Cooling trans cooler kit for my 21 Tundra. When the skid plate returned in had the access hole cut with a cover plate that have two 10 mm for the cover of the access hole.

Now there a couple of real mods. Love it when people make the truck more functional (for their use) rather than just looks.

I have a 2008. First thing I did was take that dumb ass skid plate off and threw that shit in the dumpster! Plus it was rusted out, but even if it was in good shape, that skid was getting deleted from the truck.
@livingadreamlife1428
@livingadreamlife1428 3 месяца назад
I’ve considered having a metal works guy make this mod to my skid plate as well. Currently, removing the skid plate to change the oil and then reinstalling it is a pain. The alternative of buying a TRD Skid plate is expensive and an OEM version has been impossible to find online. Aftermarket skid plates don’t interest me.

Also bought a Pop n Lock for tailgate. Works with factory remote to lock and unlock your tailgate. So you don’t have to use your key. This is feature should come stock.

I really like my center console safe. Recommend for storing pew-pews or any other valuables you want to ensure it's safety. I'm going to have to check out the Alpine HU now. 😆

The safe is definitely on my short list. Next up is getting rid of some of the interior chrome that reflects in my eyes, then it is most likely the center console safe or a RCI skid plate.

Hey Kev I really like your truck and setup. I also use my tundra for pulling about 7k lbs. Mine is a 2014 Limited CM, have you noticed your transmission temps go high while towing? Or experienced any issues in those regards?

Nice review. I also have a 2018 and tow a 7000 lb travel trailer. Do you notice a difference in ride quality with the airbags with no load Vs stock. I had a f150 with the same airbags and the ride was quite a bit harsh not under load daily driving. Wondering how the tundra ride quality is with the airbags.
@kedrevs4037
@kedrevs4037 3 года назад
If I leave the bags inflated beyond 10 -12 PSI it is definitely noticeable unloaded. With the bags deflated to 5psi, no appreciable change in ride quality.

Hey, like your truck and video. I just upgraded from a Tacoma to a Tundra. I loved the Tacoma but needed to upgrade because I recently purchased a travel trailer. I get quite a bit of that body roll you mentioned, so started upgrading things to try and eliminate it. I do have the factory installed sway bars, they look exactly like yours. I changed the tires to a 10 ply all terrain tire and this helped a little bit, but the roll is still there. I thought about air bags but you mentioned they just helped to level your truck? My truck is pretty level so I’m not sure if the air bags would help with the body roll. What’s your thoughts on that? I just returned from a trip in the mountains and the truck has plenty of power, just trying to eliminate the body roll in the back. I would appreciate any thoughts you have. My trailer is 8’ wide and I can almost see down the sides with the stock mirrors. I noticed you didn’t upgrade your mirrors. Did you have any plans to?
@kedrevs4037
@kedrevs4037 3 года назад
I do think the firestone ride rite airbags help with some of the body roll also. It was a relatively easy install, cutting the bump stops was a apin, but not difficult. I actually think the stock mirrors work pretty well, but. my TT is also 8' wide. Would add tow mirrors, except it would make getting in and out of my single stall garage a real pain. I got some that just snap on. The vibration in them is terrible, but I got some cheap blind spot mirrors to attach to the tow mirrors, and for some reason they don't vibrate when attached to the tow mirrors. Works pretty well and maintains all the functionality of my mirrors with powerfold and blind spot monitoring. Like that I can just detach them when i'm not towing. I'll attach the links. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AFV7DHW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LHYSY4G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I was days away from dropping $55k on a TRD Pro before luckily reading that they lost the trans cooler. Went and bought a low mileage 2011 instead. Couldn't be happier

I am sure it will do great for a long time. The 2015-17 TRD Pros should. have the trans cooler if you ever decide to go that route. In 2016, standard equipment included black leather/softex and factory trailer brake controller

My brother is a transmission specialist. I was angry when my Tundra said it had the oil and tranny cooler and didn’t. The lines still run through the radiator. He told me the new transmissions can run warmer because of the new fluids. Although getting the tranny cooler is a good idea the key is to changing the fluid more often. I do it every 30k. Did that with my old Tacoma and towed a boat with no issues and no tranny cooler as it didn’t have the tow package.

KEdRevs, Why don't you cut out a hole on your forward skid plate, turn it into a swingout door with a latch, easy access for oil changes and less money spent buying another costly cover. Just saying.

Good question. I don't think it was. Just a little over 2 years when the battery went out, I would have been over 50K miles at that point. I had no interest in the replacing it with the OEM battery for whatever prorated amount Toyota would have offered. Went with a better quality battery imho.
