This is a homemade incense recipe made with Frankincense resin and essential oils. I call it the “Resin, Tree, and Flower Incense,” because it blends Frankincense, Cypress, and Jasmine.
Some of the chunks in my raw Frankincense resin are big! Those would burn more easily if I broke them up, so for this incense recipe I'm just using smaller pieces.
At 1:24, I measure out 1 oz (28 gm) using a kitchen scale. Kitchen scales are useful-you can put a bowl on the scale, then subtract the bowl’s weight and reset the scale to “0.” That way, you’re only measuring your ingredients.
To be honest, I don’t usually measure my ingredients when I make incense recipes! It’s more of a creative process than a technical one. But I wanted to give you measurements to use as a “reference point.” You can adjust your ingredients as you like!
To add essential oils, simply drop them right onto your resin. I’m adding:
** Recipe **
5 drops Frankincense (Boswellia carterii) (2:01)
4 drops Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens) (2:17)
1 drop Jasmine (Jasminum grandiflorum) (2:41)
A single drop of Jasmine may not sound like much, but Jasmine has a big presence! One drop is more than enough to infuse this entire blend with a rich, gorgeous floral aroma.
At 3:01, I stir my resin with a wooden spoon to help distribute the essential oils, so they infuse more of the resin.
Set your homemade incense aside to dry for two days, and then store it however you like. After two days, it’s ready for burning!
I like to use bamboo charcoal to burn my homemade incense. (5:05) Bamboo charcoal takes a little longer to light, but it’s not made with toxic chemicals that will fill my home as it burns, so it’s worth it.
Have fun with your incense!
Why does incense play such a key role in so many medicinal and spiritual traditions around the world?
How does incense work to help us access deeper levels of wisdom and healing?
Can you tap into these properties of incense and enhance your essential oil practice?
I can answer the last question for you . . . YES! When you understand how to use incense and how to “listen” to it, you can bring new dimensions to your Aromatherapy practice. My friend Eric, owner of the Northwest School of Aromatic Medicine, can answer the first 2 questions and so much more!
The “Listening to Incense” Home Study Course is offered by the Northwest School of Aromatic Medicine. It can teach you how to use incense in traditional and modern ways, so you can bring nuance and wisdom to your Aromatherapy practice. You’ll have the opportunity to experience for yourself why so many people love incense, and how it can put us in touch with your own roots, your own wisdom, and your ability to connect with the world in meaningful ways. Learn more about the course here! aromahead.co/L...

Cool video, one of the even more cool things about frankincense are theres different species of boswellia trees from where the resin is collected, and each having different scents when burnt. Some are rather expensive however and some relatively inexpensive. Boswellia neglecta resin has a very deep and earthy scent whereas B. sacra/carteri have a more piney and citrus notes when burnt. I also grow these trees, and they bring me great joy... Thanks for sharing.

Subscribed. So glad I came across your video. Today was my 1st day of charcoal, resin & incense. I thought the resin went under the charcoal and the incense went on top of the charcoal. LOL. The charcoal I received is way too big, so I set off my smoke alarms, as well! Thanks for your tips & I will check out bamboo charcoal. I always loved scents, can't wait to follow your tutorials. Exactly how long should charcoal burn?
@aromatherapyoils
@aromatherapyoils 4 года назад
Welcome to our RU-vid channel Waddya! How long charcoal burns depends on a few things - one of them being the size of the charcoal. Scents Of Earth suggests that their small bamboo charcoal briquettes burn for about 45 minutes. scents-of-earth.com/bamboo-charcoal-small-baieido/ Enjoy making your own resin incense!

I was wondering if you know that smell that all new age shops seem to have is it dragons blood or just a combination of all the incense and other stuff combined. Cause I love it. I want my house to smell like it. Lol.
@aromatherapyoils

Tracy, my thought is that it is a combination of all the different incenses the shop carries.

Melanie, I get most of my resins from two different sources: Aromatics International and Scents of Earth. I can't say that any ceramic bowl will work but if you're interested in one like I have in this video my friend makes them. His website is tinybowls.com/ . :o)

Thanks, Andrea. I wish I had known about this site sooner. Some of the EOs are quite unique! I've ordered a few things besides the charcoal, for now, and will be buying more items in the future. I recently read your book "Essential Living Aromatherapy Recipes For Health and Home." I had never looked at the author of "The Heart of Aromatherapy," even though I have it sitting on my livingroom bookcase. When I saw it featured on aromatics.com, it blew my mind to find you wrote that, too! What a woman!!!
