Unlocking the Secrets of Elite Crossovers: Learn the McDavid Way
Welcome to our in-depth tutorial where we explore the revolutionary techniques behind one of hockey's greatest players. Today, we break down two distinct methods of performing crossovers: the traditional push focus and the groundbreaking lean focus, pioneered by Connor McDavid.
In this video, we dive into the mechanics that allow McDavid to move with seemingly effortless grace across the ice. By analyzing his skating style, you'll learn how McDavid's lean-focused technique maximizes his movement efficiency, reduces effort, and enhances his ability to read the game. This approach contrasts sharply with the more common, effort-intensive push focus that limits a player's attentional bandwidth and environmental awareness.
Why does this matter? Because in the high-speed, high-pressure world of professional hockey, being able to maintain cognitive clarity and environmental awareness is crucial. McDavid's method, which integrates the downhill skating system, enables him to "drive in bright and sunny" conditions, seeing opportunities that others might miss.
For those interested in elevating their own game, stick around as we outline a five-step downhill skating system free training. This free training is designed to help you adopt these lean mechanics and improve your performance on the ice.

Sounds easy. But I have a really hard time holding my outside edge with my right skate.

a skating coach mentioned to me recently that like 90% of people who get into skating as adults have difficulty turning right/using the right outside edge. just keep practicing!

There's a 99% probability you have a pronation issue. You need to focus on ankle rigidity, ankle alignment and/or get your skates aligned to move the blade holder towards your INSIDE edge (just a few Millimeters will do the trick) because then more of your weight will be on the outside of your foot and you'll be able to hold the inside edge. This is by far the biggest issue in skating and NOBODY discusses this outside of speed skating or figure skating.
