Sunflower lanyards can be used ANYWHERE, not just in airports. Multiple supermarkets will give you one to keep for free (Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons (I think) and M&S are the ones I know of) and you can get specific cards to attatch to the lanyards that say 'I am Autistic' 'I am deaf' etc and you can also get ones that say that you are caring for someone, which is helpful if the person is a very small child or can't/ won't wear one themselves. We used to use the carer ones when taking my late nanny to medical appointments since her alzhimer's meant she wouldn't wear a lanyard herself. I'm in Northern Ireland and we also have 'JAM Cards' (JAM= Just A Minute) which are specific to NI (Other areas might have something similar) and can be used to help let others know the user needs a little extra time and patience. Our local bus and train provider, local Health trust and several other busniesses are trained to know about them (I think police are also trained which is benefical since unfortunatly some may think unmasked behaviours are 'suspicious') so it may be worth looking into other localised ones as not everywhere knows what a sunflower lanyard is, and because the Government decided to make them the 'face mask exemption' symbol during lockdown a lot of people think that's their only function. If you frequently go to a resort, theme park or another activity out of area it may be worth looking into if there's a local card that staff may already be used to seeing.

I have autism, and I have to watch a video of a place before we go so that I know what to expect. Like we went to Trentham monkey forest last Sunday I had to watch a video to see how close the monkeys get to you and what was there. We are going on a caravan holiday in August and I’ve watched around 13 videos so far 🙈 I don’t deal with unexpected things very well 😅

Great tips ❤ I also use loops with over ear defenders to help reduce noise more In particularly loud places. I also always carry sunglasses as I find certain lights can be too bright on days out. 😀

Great video with great tips. Just to add on and I’m sure it’s something you’re already aware of, lots of places now offer sensory bags that people can borrow, with ear defenders and sensory toys in. Great for when you forget your sons ear defenders like I did today at Cast theatre in Doncaster. 😬 Sometimes it just doesn’t matter how well you prepare and plan, you will still have to change all of your plans 😂 And as an autistic/ADHD adult, this has honestly been the hardest part of parenting so far lol.

Hi Rhi we are off to Legoland for my daughters 5th Birthday next week. She is definitely on the spectrum but we've not had an official diagnosis is that the only way we will be able to access that Nimbus access card? 😢

Try getting your GP to write a letter (you may have to pay) to say that she's on the pathway and submit that to Nimbus, that may accept that x
