Watching skincare, make up or haircut videos relaxes me. As a guy born in 1983, culturally not very inclined to skin care, but after working hard in grueling work environments, these videos calms me down and as a side effect, I'm becoming a skintellectual 😂. Now Im learning my stuff and every now and then give random advice 😂. Also my skin gets thirsty from watching these videos and I'm trying products, I'm glad Cassandra keeps me up to date, informed and discovering new products.

I LOVE my TheraFace! My husband got it for me for Christmas. The LED is awesome, the massage is great, and I also got the cooling attachment and the heat. The cooling over a sheet mask is lovely, and I use the heat on sore neck muscles or my hands if they hurt. It also does the micro current , but I have a NuFace for that. However, the micro current attachment is good. Their gel for it I don’t like, but the device itself is very good.

When I was at school in the late 70's through to the late 80's, there were no products available for white curly hair, and nobody in my famoly could teach me how to care for my hair as nobody else in my family had curly hair. I hot the most help from one of my black friends mum, first time I had curls rather than a giant frizz ball.

I was born in 1993 but it wasn’t much better in the 90s and 2000s (at least early 2000s). My mom wild brush the hell out of hair to try to “tame” it, which made it a big poofy frizzball. I’ve also learned to wash my hair only every 3 days (less if I get really sweaty though!). I told my mom that and she thinks it’s gross and bad for my hair but like…washing it every day totally strips it, even with gentle sulfate free shampoo.

Do you know Whim How method of bathing in cold water? Of course, people who don't have heart problems can do it safely, only 10 minutes, etc The cold water massages the inner organs and it reduces the fat etc......Some actresses here in Europe said the story of some old lady who came to the hairdresser and ladies asked her how she did it that her skin is so young at such an age. She said she uses to bathe her face in cold water and uses ice as well. So it seems it works also for the face. Maybe it would be good to find research about it.

@@megleland6320 This. My mum hated her curls so she straightened her hair and now uses keratine. Like that you lose the curls and you become dependent of the treatment. Years ago I decided not to straighten my hair anymore. I have curly hair and I need to learn to love it and take care of it to keep it nice. Specially now that I already have grey hairs.

Hi Cassandra!!! I love your videos, this one included! You're so informative and entertaining and have helped my skin so much. Just an fyi, on a lot of your reaction videos, I find myself having to turn up the volume when the person your reacting to is speaking and back down when you're speaking. And when I use headphones and the video gets loud again, it has actually hurt my ears before I've been able to turn it down. Idk if anyone else experiences this, it could totally be just me. I used to work in telemarketing (😬I quit because I felt we had to be very dishonest and take advantage of seniors in order to make sales) selling an "all natural" weightloss patch. One of the key sales pitches included the fact it was "all natural". The day I had a man rebutt by saying "ya, that doesn't make it good, snake venom is natural too" I knew I couldn't use that selling point anymore 🤣🤣

Jelly Ko! All of their products are cruelty free but some are not vegan (pearl?) from what I have seen. However, the founder Lauren Lee is from Australia and lives and works in Korea and started her brand like at the beginning of Covid or right before (can’t recall exact timeline) and has slowly grown the line of products to now include 4 amazing and very easily re-purchasable products. Her team and brand are incredible and they are part of 1% for the planet and they also do their part to find easily recycled packaging and is currently innovating their packaging to minimize their footprint. I have loved every product and I never thought I’d be one to say that about any brand because it’s totally normal to dislike at least one thing in a line, but I have yet to find one. Just mentioning because no one talks about it and it totally deserves the love.

Hi Cassandra, thanks for the video! I particularly appreciated your discussion of the term "natural" as used by the cosmetics (and other) industries. I really, really wish the general public understood that "natural" isn't always better. I also want to say, although I have wavy, not curly hair, my straight haired mom had no idea how to deal with it! She made me get a pixie cut as a child. I've learned the hard way how to handle my hair: Use a well formulated conditioner, don't brush it, use a hair pick instead of a comb, and don't use the highest heat settings on my blow dryer and curling iron. Also, I use the Frizz Ease serum and a Frizz Ease mousse, and the Frizz Ease Secret Touch Up Creme when my hair is really frizzy. My hair is also fine, so I need a lightweight mousse. (Disclaimer: I don't get paid or compensated in any way to recommend products, and I don't receive free products to review.)

She HAD to use La Mere 😞 I dated a guy in college whose family was well-off. He gifted me with La Mere at Christmas and since I was a transplant to LA, my dry skin was really really dry, so I thought this bougie brand was going to cure it all (it f’n SHOULD at that price as well as clean my home, just sayin). I was SO disappointed that it did NOTHING to help moisturize my skin! I felt so badly that he spent obscene amounts of money due to their marketing and even HE could tell that it did not work as well as what I was using at that time which was hella cheap because..college! When I heard you debunk it I was cheering you on!!!!!!!

Hey Cass, your videos are amazeing and I've learned a lot from you. I am from Bulgaria (Europe) and I am 15 year old. I was having a hard time with my acne, but now my skin is almost clear, I am still strugguling with black heads and rearly I have a break outs. Here we don't have many of the products that you recommend and I usually have to find an alternatives. For exaple a few months ago I finally could find products from The Ordinary without paing for shipping from a different country. So probably you could not have the access to my favourite products, unless you order from Europe. My skincare secret are the cream Fusidin, that here you can buy from the pharmacy, some of the products from the brand Balea, which is very affordable, also the acne line from the bulgarian brand "Здраве". I support bulgarian business for floral waters and handmade soaps, which products had a great inpact for my skin. Now I am testing new products, but those which I have recommend are great for acne pron skin. If someone from Europe have a recommendation for products, you can text me. Sorry for my english, but I am still leaving. ❤️❤️❤️

Hey @CassandraBankson, could you do a video on micro plastic in skincare and cosmetics? You often promote products that look and work amazing, but that also contain things like acrylate crosspolymers, which, at least in the EU, are considered critical because they don’t biodegrade well and therefore are both a threat to the environment and us as humans since we take it back up into our food chain. Of course the discussion about those ingredients is ongoing, but a lot of experts warn about those. That’s why I’m currently trying to avoid products that contain them. Could you perhaps do a video about this topic? I’d be really interested and I believe it’s a very important topic when it comes to choosing products with respect to our responsibility towards the environment.

A skincare recommendation from me is the cruelty-free Polish brand SkinTRA, just know some products are not vegan. I've only tried two products by them but I love them and I will buy more of their products when a skincare slot opens up. I feel like I will use their prebiotic nourishing cream to the day I die. I love how it feels, smells (none of their products has fragrance, perfume or essential oils but most things have a smell) and care for my skin but the biggest reason I'll keep buying it is because I can use it even when my weird mystery eczema around my mouth pops up. I've tried so much for it and basically everything that isn't petrolatum jelly makes it burn but for some reason, this cream won't burn unless my eczema it's so bad I'm bleeding which doesn't happen often luckily. I don't know if it's available in the US yet, they launched in 2020 so they haven't been around for very long but many Europeans will be able to buy them. I live in Sweden and I bought my first products of theirs in 2021 so they found their way here quite quickly. I hope that's true for the rest of the world as well because it's a good brand that wants as many people as possible to be able to use their products which is why there is no fragrance, perfume or essential oils in their products, why they keep their products "simple" and why they state the percentage of their most important/active ingredients on the bottles. I also like that they've partnered with the Las na Forever foundation which plants 0,5 square meters of forest for every product produced. I'm a person that dislikes many tree planting endeavours when a corporation is attached because just planting any old tree does little to no good and can even cause harm to the environment they're planted in. It needs to be plants indigenous to that environment and they should be planted in carefully chosen areas where they both are needed the most and also have the highest possibility to thrive and aid the local ecosystem. As far as I can tell Las na Forever foundation is doing a quite good job but I can't read Polish so I can't access the majority of the information. If anyone knows more than I do, please fill me in. I'm sorry for the essay this comment turned into I just never have a chance to recommend or "talk" about skincare so this kinda just poured out of me...Sorry.

It's scary how many people use that itty-bitty squirt and think they're getting full SPF coverage, even with dedicated sunscreens. I cringe every time I see someone say "a little goes a long way" or "yeah it's expensive but you can use it every day and 1.7oz lasts for months." I get it, we don't all know! But oh nooooo...

I think looking at the term "natural" as opposed to "chemical" is misleading - as Cassandra says, everything in the world, including water and air, is made up of chemicals! Our skin has a chemical breakdown too. I think when we talk of "natural" products, it should be as opposed to "artificial" or "synthetic" products. For instance, we can mash up a papaya and apply it on our face, and yes, technically the papaya does have "chemicals" in it. What it doesn't have, though (as opposed to say a papaya-based moisturizer) is a bunch of other "artificial" additives. These artificial additives are of course necessary to manufacture a commercially viable product with a good texture, colour, reasonable shelf life, etc (eg. preservatives, stabilizers, fragrance, colouring, etc)...however they have no real skin benefits and can be more irritating than otherwise. Obviously this isn't to say you must never use store-bought products on your skin! But it is a bit like comparing fresh organically grown meat with the processed meat you would find in a burger - both are edible, but the second option is less healthy.

Yep! Though I don't like green washing and think most skincare is made to be safe and there shouldn't be fear mongering such that people blindly jump onto a bandwagon, I've also started hating this oversimplification saying "everything is a chemical". It has started sounding very condescending and "gotcha", when you know people are mostly referring to synthetic chemicals and concentrations produced in labs and so on, with concerns about such mixtures, their safety standards and so on. The idea being, if you put papaya on your face, at least you're reasonably aware of its potential side effects (given people have been eating papaya for centuries) but a lab produced cream you don't know. That's why I like the approach to explain what the synthetic chemicals are, why they're added etc, but don't agree with reductive statements like "did you know water is a chemical" like duh, and if it speaks down to the intended audience who are just trying to do their best witth given information, you're just at risk of alienating them. And for all the concerns over such brands, I see the lines blurring so much between green brands ad commercial brands. Green brands have started adding actives like Vit C to improve their efficacy, commercial brands are adding more and more exotic nut oils and extracts to allude to a more 'natural' alternative. So it's all good, I'd like to think we have brands like The Ordinary precisely because of the efforts of such people to bring transparency which regular brands weren't doing then.

My client bought the whole line of True Botanicals, and her and I aren’t totally impressed. I’ll be interested to see if she reorders it. PS. People need to start referring to products as naturally derived or synthetically produced. Stop with this “chemicals, and toxins” crap. Lol
