I think the easiest way to tell if a filter is on is that when she applies any product there is no sheen or gloss to her skin. When your skin is damp and you apply a serum etc. your face is glossy. When you apply a moisturizer you can see the cream as it is applied, smoothed around the face, and then disappear as it distributes. Her skin tone remained totally flat the entire video. I noticed this in another reaction you did to a young celebs skincare routine; she rubbed her face and produce a perfect pinkish tone around her face. It made her look like she had gently blended blush all over her face. I agree that using filters in these videos is dishonest and can set people up for failure and making them feel bad about themselves bc they don't look like the filtered version.

I've always used what is proven to work on facial skin. Retinoids, AHA, BHA, moisturizer and sunscreen and BPO for adult acne. I used Clinique from age 18 into my 30s. At 40, I started with Paula's Choice. I grew up on Lake Erie's beaches with no sunscreen but it's not tropical latitude type sun. Then, with sunscreen on... I spent 4 years in Florida, and now in SoCal for 40 years. I did stop sunbathing in my late 20s. My skin looked comparable to J Lo's until I was about 55. Many thought I was 45. I routinely see a dermatologist now for a lip condition unrelated to skin damage. I see Resident derms at the VA, a different one each time I go. They all remark on what great skin I have. It is possible to have good skin just from doing the right things from early on. With money and a public image, I believe J Lo does get treatments, botox and any pampering she desires.

exactly, there's a ton of facial treatments that don't necessarily mean botox, like brow microblading or expensive facials. we need to go to vogue's page to say stop using filters on a skin care videos! lol no point. i think J Lo has gotten a nose job in the past and maybe some filler. if she wasn't selling skin care, I wouldn't really care. maybe celebrities need to start saying "you will not look like me for buying these, but these are products I enjoy using so have at it." on a whole different topic, I got the biossance squalane cleanser for xmas! so excited.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, for calling out the filter and makeup JLo has in the video. When I watched it a few days ago, I noticed those discrepancies as well. But I thought, "There is no way JLo or Vogue would be that audaciously deceptive!" and second guessed myself. Good grief!

Hope you had a nice holiday Cassandra! Always love the reactions to celeb skincare routines 😊 Also, plugging a personal concern here: as a fellow cyster myself, I am finally considering laser for acne scar removal (ice pick, boxcar, rolling scars). I am, however, a bit worried, as both a friend and my mother recently mentioned examples of people they personally know who noticed a significant loss of elasticity, and even sagging and premature aging of the skin a little while after. No matter how much I've tried to look up resources that might help me figure out if this is a legitimate concern and side effect of the procedure, I can't find anything I really trust (I'm already suspicious of most doctors and aestheticians here trying to sell you the procedures, instead of actually caring about the patient sadly, so even a consultation is something I'm suspicious of in itself). I would love if you could possibly give us a little insight into this. I realize you must have access to a lot more resources and research than we do, and I assume you must have seen a lot of people who may have had the procedure and observed its long terms results. I would hate to do something about my scars only to end up looking like a prune in my 30s. Thank you in advance for any response to or consideration of the topic.

She’s done other videos from her bathroom where she shows us up close her skin no eye makeup on just saying . I love this line I was skeptical at first so I bought the set of everything like a travel kit for 55$ loved it so much I am now doing the auto delivery thing. Her cleanser is amazing takes off eye makeup with no burning of the skin I use her serum it’s amazing and then the blockbuster moisturizer. I have tried them all Lancer was the last before this . Lancer burned the snot outta my skin even my hubby asked why my skin was so red cuz it was on fire 🔥 lol!!! But JLos is the only skin care that doesn’t burn my face my skin is sensitive. And it does make u glow I no longer wear any makeup on my skin and I’m 50 OH her eye cream is amazing I do not have one wrinkle not because of her line but family genes it’s not as expensive as some other lines out there so for me and my skin this is all I’ll use on my face / neck.

Problems in society are examples from celebrities which were not filtered and double filtered, we tolerate and find exiting every trends pushed over our throats. Products as these ought to be questioned and put on hold until better use for everyday people. Is waste of money, health and effort. I am very thankful as an everyday person to learn from your lifelong journey Cassandra. I hope for all everyday people to search for the knowledge beyond the trend.

My opinion: Ever since I've started using J-Lo's Cleanser (to remove makeup) my skin hasn't had a cystic acne outbreak since. I don't know what is in it but I'm going on almost 3 years of using "That Hit Single" and I refuse to mess with what is working. NOTHING I used before ever worked, I've spent $1,000's of dollars trying and now finally I have a product that works. I also use her sunscreen for my face, neck, shoulders and hands and I have yet to have an issue or an outbreak, again this us after 3 full summer seasons. So I do consistently purchase 2 J-Lo Beauty products... 1) That Hit Single Cleanser 2) That Big Screen 30+ SPF. Try the Cleanser 1st if you are prone to acne... especially cystic acne.

I feel like being a celebrity and representing a brand like Jennifer Lopez or someone else who's supposed to be "eternally beautiful," you're in a catch-22 when it comes to honesty. Mystique and hype are fundamental parts of celebrity, so disclosing all the procedures they've had done is like breaking the 4th wall in an industry that's totally reliant on selling promises based on that mystique and hype. If they admit you can just "build" a celebrity to look like that, where's the glamor in the products they're selling? Where's the justification for the high price points and/or selling yet another product with basic a$$ ingredients? And yeah we can say just be ethical and transparent, but that goes against the whole point of the celebrity industry. I feel like if you're going to ask celebrities to be fully transparent about how they maintain their looks, you might as well ask the celebrity industry to just dismantle itself. There's a reason why the industry is so secretive about who gets plastic surgery and why celebrities might have to sign NDAs about their cosmetic surgeries/procedures. Those procedures are sales techniques and if you give away the technique, you lose your sales.

@ladycaticorn2950

This comment is spot on. If celebs admit to the work they’ve had done and all the resources they have to make staying beautiful easy, they would lose their intrigue and mystery. Consumers would be like, “Well, that’s not going to happen for me, so I’m not buying X products.” And then the celebs lose money and status. Also, in the case of female celebs, they have an added pressure of looking young for as long as possible. Men are celebrated when they age and often continue to get good roles or opportunities. For women, especially female actresses, they have to fight to stay in the limelight once they’re past 30. There’s a reason why everyone is obsessed with Millie Bobbi Brown right now: she’s young and beautiful. Once she’s older, she’ll be replaced with another shiny pretty young thing. The same thing happened to Jennifer Lawrence; she was über popular in her early to mid-twenties, but her popularity has declined a lot since she has gotten older. Women have to stay looking young longer because society won’t give them the same opportunities if they look old.

Yes, Jennifer Lopez, the Kardashians & Jenners, among many other celebrities have that their image either in film/video or photos (they'll even pay paparazzis) to edit their images to make them look their best. We have to also be aware of all the resources She and many other celebrities have at their fingertips which is no surprise why they can stay looking and feeling their best for longer than the average person. And we have eyes. compare their images throughout the years. Yes, our faces change with age.. *but* and that's a big but, our noses don't get smaller of more defined. I just wish these celebrities were more transparent of what they do or don't do.
