Help me out a bit bud, I'm having a hard time understanding the difference between girders and beams. I'm build aranch home 50 by 30 and people who are helping me build it recommended girders spaced 8ft. Will that make it possible for use of smaller joists like 2x8 ?
Girders are oversized beams. Smaller beams are connected to the larger girders. Girders can be beams but beams cannot be girders. That said, most people use the terms interchangeable. The smaller the distance between them the smaller the joist needed
