LL solidified his place as the most important (video) taper of modern times with these videos. Nobody (outside of bands and crews) has done more over the last few years to further access and love of the best music on the planet. Don't miss the Jack Straw clip at the end of the Randal's Slave.
If you're a Dead and Co fan, check out estimated prophet at amway center 2-27-18. Was the last show of the "fall tour" after mayer had his surgery and post -poned the tour. The whole show is amazing but man im telling you the estimated prohphet is UNREAL.
Man, Trey really did a great job for these shows! Great vid, Thanks LL for all of your hard work over the years to bring us all such great footage! Still cant believe this August 9th will be twenty years Jerry has been gone. Peace.
Awesome shows! Thank you Bobby, Phil, Bill, Mickey and Trey for honoring the legacy work of The Grateful Dead! Keep on truckin'. Jerry smiles down from above in pride and respect to this timeless, transcending music.
You can tell at 6:32 that trey messed up by dropping back to the f# minor verse but he perfectly fixed his mistake/added tension by sliding it back up to the big g chord.
Regardless of how some Deadheads feel about Trey and the Fare Thee Well lineup, there were several songs/sequences that were fantastic - Bertha, Shakedown Street, Jack Straw, Mountains of the Moon>Throwin' Stones, Sailor>Saint, Estimated Prophet, China Cat>Rider just to name a few - St. Stephen was fucking ridiculous as well.
Anyone know how the lead guitar in this show gets it's sound? It sounds kind of like a wah, but not like a normal wah. There's a bit of a bite to it. You can really hear it in China Cat Sunflower in this same show. Any help would be appreciated.
Bobby had to mess up the lyrics because Trey was up there. I remember when Bobby gave Trey a certain kind of look that I've seen him give John Mayer before.
Bobby was the only one slightly off on this one. Lagging on the lyrics and missing his changes. Still doesn't take away from the fact that this one is a heater! Trey is ON FIRE!
For 40 years they didn't need a sound damper between the drummers and guitarists. Why here? Great performance tough. Trey's the only guy qualified to play with them.
According to the book "Fare Thee Well", Bobby has constantly been bothered by the volume of Phil's base and demanded these partitions for the final show. It didn't help much, apparently. Bobby bitched more, Phil agreed to tone it down, then didn't anyway
Some will dissagree but Dead and Company has an even better version of prophet. 2-27-18 amway center. Its so clean and chill yet also Gritty and funky. LOVE ME SOME D&C!!
Trying to capture the essence of the core 4 playing together I'd suppose... Definitely not a rookie though.. He's one of the most respected video taper of all things grateful dead..
Hes one of the most unique guitarists to ever play who also has serious reverence for Jerry and these 4 and i would venture to guess hung back a bit and let the shows be about the dead and not what he can do with a guitar, the highlight of the runs was the music never stopped, trey let loose.
