I was looking at getting a stone done for my mum & dad but - you know what? After looking at this video I'm inspired to have a go at doing it myself! Thank-you so much for posting this video and giving me a boost !!
I added a longer tip. I sharpen the tip about every 20 minutes with a wet stone. Dremels have a lifetime guarantee I send them back and they send me a new one.
Hi. What ends are you using in a Dremel and do you trace some of the image on and how? What technique do you use while shading is it just the matter of applying pressure and different points
Hello John. Nice work, I used to do hand etchings too. Have you considered buying diamond etching machine? It's the same old method - impact etching with a diamond tipped needle. And the price of the machine is very low, because it's not a laser machine. I work on it for more than 10 years, really reliable equipment. Just need some skills in Photoshop.
Hello,Beautiful job and I'm sorry for your loss. What a wonderful gift to your brother in-law. I have a couple questions for you if you don't mind. I'd like to add to my fathers headstone but will need to practice first. I have not engraved on granite but have a ton of experience with glass: Do you think it's similar? Can you explain the rubber that was scraped off? Any recommendations are greatly appreciated! Thanks,Ang
+ash j I put paint into the etching and after it's dry I scrape it of with a razor blade. I started on 12x12 granite tile from Lowe's they cost about $4 or $5. The stone might be a little easer because you can see what you are doing better. I have not done much class. I use a picture on thin paper for my layout. You can make a layout actual size on paper and then tape it on the granite and etch reference points through the paper into the granite. The lettering is sandblasted using a rubber mask that is cut on a plotter. If you have any questions let me know. I have many etchings in my photos on my facebook page. Thanks John
Hello .nice work. Can you tell me what paint did you use to highlight the granite. I m have a laser engraving machine and i have used water based paint. But im not happy with the result. Any information will be helpful.
Can you do a video close up and slow motion to see how your moving like is it a circular motion or scratching motion or stipple motion I think you did a beautiful job. Would love to do portraits on granite. Love
