Y’all are really missing the point. Everyone knows what generic brand is. But the idea is that it’s made by another factory and made for cheaper so people assume they taste different. Using the same exact product and putting a different wrapper on it is a bigggg difference and that is what is being pointed out.
@@kaitlin4u Yeah… and? Isn’t that obvious? Everyone knows this already and that’s why we’re making fun of him. He made an hour long video about capitalism and marketing lmaoo
@@kaitlin4u that still makes no sense? everyone that has ever been to a grocery store knows this.. there’s only so many ways to make a single snack lol odds are a chip flavoured like salt and vinegar is going to only vary marginally. Nobody is missing the point. Shane is just pumping out some stupid out of touch bullshit again, as per usual
@@enexius67 my fiance and I both watched the video and did not know this. I promise you a VERY large percentage of Americans don’t know this 😂 Yes I now know what private labeling is and I’ve looked into it now after watching the video. But to assume the majority of America understands private labeling is ridiculous. This is not the case for all generic brands. Some generic brands do make and process the product differently and yes they do taste different. He was pointing out the specific ones that are made EXACTLY the same. If everyone knew this nobody would by the more expensive name brand but they still do…. That’s the whole point to inform people who are unaware that some of these products you are literally paying for a bag.
@@thebeast5215 Andrew and Garrett still make videos on Garrett's channel. Drew Monson just uploaded recently, he's not doing well. Morgan is working on her house, still vlogging and in school for psychology.
@@teenagemutantgirlys no… it was because he needed a place to deliver to that was in range of the places he was doing the video about (pasquellys aka chuck e cheeses) and the red robin one aswell
@@iamchrispaezjr how? Ghost kitchens have been all over the news since Covid. You just admitted to never watching the news or trying to educate yourself on the world around you. Not surprising, given your desperation to defend and deflect from Shane’s child abuse, but it’s sad you could be so oblivious
Is it just me, or is this kind of a slap in the face for low income households/ frugal families? Imagine being so rich that you just found out at 40 years old that they make generic versions of food…😭😭😭💀
It’s not the fact that they make generic versions obviously everyone knows that. But it’s the fact that they are the exact same product manufactured by the same company
Seriously. Also, part of Trader Joe’s origin story is literally that they source their own products to cut down on costs. Lol wait until ppl find out about supply chain issues and that companies will sometimes buy from random sellers bc they need product now.
shane’s whole story is about how he was a poor growing up, which i believe, but how did he go through his entire life without understanding generic branding
@@australia2754ll Cosmetics are made that way, (at least the ones made in the usa)I worked at many warehouses where they make make up… 😅 they’re all crappy and repackage lol
Shane Dawson made a whole hour long video on stuff we all knew years ago and on Costco's main model. Don't tell him about the Kirkland brand, he might have a seizure from all the 'mind blowing' stuff.
@@charlieh3510 God knows how many people got sent down the RU-vid conspiracy hole thanks to Shane's conspiracy videos. There are probably people on Q forums now that started out watching Shane talk about 9/11 when they were kids.
@@jeff-gj6en he was also talking about the freaking space lasers (not including the antisemitism part) caused the California wildfires way before Margine Taylor Gross was in office
I worked at a factory where we made cereal and the name brand is literally confirmed the same exact product as the knock off. We make them in the same factory with no changes to the product at all except for the package.
Save a brand name box and switch products with the cheap stuff if you live with picky people and want to save money. They won't notice at all if you seal it well enough lol.
I think the point Shane is trying to make is there's probably a big percentage of Americans that choose name brand items because they believe the generic brand won't taste as good and to find out that it's made by the same company would probably make people that don't know this upset their wasting money for no reason.
Right sheep followers. ..name brand this or that ect oh I buy this cuz it's better...when it's really not. Can get it elsewhere for cheaper. People already know this but really sit back and look at the larger scale ... They playing the world in every way . The mind is fragile
@@makathanassiou8415tbh I had no idea they were 100% the same. Lots of generics, like Mac n cheese, taste AWFUL! When I watched this video, I actually decided to go to an ALDIs for the 1st time EVER. Yes-some of us live in a bubble. I think Ethan is being condescending. These vids were great tips with the cost of food! ☮️ from now on I’ll check manufacturers and ingredient lists if it means saving 30-50%.
@@meljohnson2852 exactly Mel! Not everyone knows everything like apparently Mark does lol must be a genius! I love Ethan an h3 and I've been a fan for years but I do think he's set his mind about who he thinks Shane is and therefore isn't exactly seeing the whole picture of his content. Which is fine, who cares. I think Shanes "brand" is obviously lighthearted conspiracy theories that I don't think he pretends to be fact or science-based at all lol its just fun and lighthearted. And yes this marketing scam will blow some peoples minds that didn't know but it doesn't mean Shane's trying to be a ground breaking scientist lol
No, that’s not the point he is making… he actually isn’t making any point. All he does is say it’s crazy over and over again and calls the no name brand “fake” and how it’s illegal and a “conspiracy” and not a business model that existed for a long as time for over an hour.
@@itsgonnabeanaurfromme that’s not how it works…manufactures produce the same products and your fav big brands just slap their name on it and boom it’s suddenly more expensive. that’s why we are saying it’s cooperate greed. They are not making a more affordable option for lower income people it’s the fact that they still profit a lot with lower pricing of generic branding and branded products just triple the price to sell you same stuff. I cannot believe you’re defending capitalism thinking it’s helping the poor lmaoooooooo
I don't know what's it's like in the States, but, where I'm from off brand stuff doesn't taste the same as the original. Judging by this comment section, this is a thing in US and also apparently common knowledge. So, I have a question for you guys that were aware of this and consider it common knowledge. Why in the world would anyone in the US buy real Doritos? Legit question, if off brand, cheaper stuff and branded stuff both taste exactly the same, why are you guys buying the real, more expensive stuff? How come the more expensive branded stuff even exists in such a world if everything is exactly the same? You guys like the bag better? I don't get it. If I find something cheaper that I like, I buy the cheaper stuff. The thing is that cheaper stuff usually doesn't taste as good where I'm from so this is why I sometimes invest in branded stuff. I cannot comprehend why do you guys buy branded, more expensive Pop Tarts if a knock off tastes EXACTLY the same in the US? This comment section genuinely confuses me, how come that's "just the way it is" and "it's normal"? It doesn't make any sense to me.
Nostalgia and familiarity. If people have enough money not to think about it or worry about it, they’re just gonna grab the product they grew up with because they recognize the packaging and be on their way. Anyone who is conscious about saving money is likely buying the generic brands.
theres no way not only shane but all his friends dont know how recipes work....yeah there the same thats how fucking food works what did they expect for the Cheetos to be green like...
But not ALL generics are the exact same. I know some grocery stores have distributors also their store label on a name brand. But, no not all generics are anywhere as good as the original. You have to check the manufacturer and ingredient list.
Lots of people buy generic because the brand name is way more expensive and some products likes this are very similar but if you buy like dr Pete instead of Dr Pepper that’s where I draw the line
I knew right at the beginning he was eventually going to break out the Aldi's snacks . as a former employee its known aldi's lore that they do an insane job at mimicking popular snack brands . you'd never know the difference and everything is half the price of name brands.
this wouldn’t be as cringe if they weren’t playing it up so much, like it’s interesting stuff but they’re acting like name brands and mark ups is some crazy conspiracy when it’s just how manufacturing works
Yea exactly, I feel like he’s just trying to appeal to a certain audience, but I do wonder if he’s actually blown away by the concept or playing it off for younger viewers
@@StancyInTheCity I love how most of these people are acting like they knew that these specific products they tested we’re from the same manufacturer’s as the main brands. They aren’t just talking about knock off foods in general lol.
@@lunakylena4501 what I found interesting in Shane’s video was the ghost kitchens. I knew that several restaurants operated out of each ghost kitchen, but I didn’t realize that it was basically all the same menu for Eatch restaurant.🤣 when he ordered three of the same meals from three “different” restaurants it was literally the exact same meal three times over. That was surprising to me.
I genuinely didn’t cause I never buy any cheap crap. I hate Aldi’s. And I rarely ever order from the delivery apps preferring to pick it up my self, so I was genuinely shook when I saw all those food items have the same packaging. Like genuinely shook. Also the video was entertaining and RU-vid has gotten extremely boring.
I thought the end was pretty interesting when you found out red robin was making up fake fast food restaurants for postmates 🤷♀ kinda messed up to think you're ordering from a totally diff restaurant when its really just red robin pullin a switcheroo on ya to make more $
That’s nothing new though. I’ve seen news stations talking about ghost restaurants at least since the pandemic started. It makes perfect sense. They have the kitchen, and, during the pandemic, they weren’t using the space. I think it’s a clever business tactic and I don’t think there’s anything wrong on it. If you’re foolish enough to order food from a place you’ve never heard of without looking into it first then you get what you get
This is actually a great service what Shane is doing. Im guessing most of his watches are young children and he's teaching them about how big companies can overcharge/price gouge for literally the exact same product. This should be illegal, but in a capitalistic country its legal.
This had me rollin’ lol I work in marketing and have worked on private label packaging. This is why packaging and branding is so important. Perceived value. It’s not mind blowing 😅
How about y’all watch Shane’s video… because it was actually really interesting. Whenever Ethan starts hating on something I immediately stop and look for the video he’s hating on and watch it full cuz Ethan always and will always show one side…. Pathetic.
Nah I have a conscience and would rather NOT give money to a child predator. I’ll watch the reuploaded version Shane doesn’t profit off of! It doesn’t change anything though, he’s still acting mind blown over common knowledge. If you make it to 18 without knowing name brand and generic brand items are produced by the same people then you were failed as a child
I think Ethan is COMPLETELY MISSING THE POINT, it's not about finding generic brand, but you're literally selling the exact same product at two different prices, is a scam, misleading, I find that super concerning, I didn't know about this whole thing, was it common knowledge?
I feel the same. For me the most concerning part were restaurants. It's a shame Ethan didn't watch the whole thing. Huge chains marketing themselves as small local businesses is messed up to me. The vibe here is: it's Shane so we must watch it, but, also it's Shane so it must suck. It's a shame because Shane actually makes a really good point here and no one cares only because it's Shane. Just shows how effective marketing really is lol kind of proves his point in a weird way.
@@simsina thank you so much, you completely captured exactly what I wanted to say, English is not my first language, so I find it difficult to explain myself sometimes
How did you not know about it? I was literally taught this in elementary school. Unless you’re under 13 (in which case you shouldn’t be on RU-vid) it’s concerning that you didn’t know this beforehand
@@simsina shane just copied John Earbuck’s video. Nothing Shane shared was new or added to the conversation. If you didn’t know about ghost kitchens before then you need to open your eyes and wake up to the world around you. Start watching the news instead of getting it through RU-vid “conspiracy theory” videos
These manufacturers have to sign contracts with stores to sell. In those contracts they have the rights to the ingredients and can copy minus 1 ingredient (in most cases) That’s why they are always similar but slightly off. Not a conspiracy if you know anything about retail and process
Same girl same! I think most of this thread is Cap! For 1-not ALL generic versions are just like the originals. You have to check the manufacturer and the ingredients. Ethan and his sheep just love bashing other creators. It’s his new brand. ☮️ & 🤍
@@meljohnson2852 imagine thinking a bunch of people are lying just because you personally don’t understand how private labeling works. The American education system is so sad.
gmm does these videos all the time about testing different price point products deciding if they can tell whats what brand or even which is the best of the bunch lol.
