No artist in the last twenty years or so has touched me as much as Ethel Cain. Preacher's Daughter is a Southern Gothic epic, unique and with so many layers it demands repeated listening. Inbred, her 2022 EP is well worth a listen, with God's Country a highlight. Go well and be happy :)

One of my personal 10/10 albums - artistry of song-writing and story-telling perfectly blended. Bleak and beautiful in equal measure - so happy you listened to this.

Lmao we think we know the story based off of Genius, and little nuggets of info Hayden has provided, but no one really knows what’s going on. Hayden plans to write three books and have 3 movies for the…Daughters of Cain Universe(?). In actuality Ethel II(the one Preacher’s Daughter is about) is a very small part of the story. Hayden says the story is really about the paternal grandmother: Ethel Cain and apparently hers is the real horror story. Which is kinda crazy considering how this one went. It’s about intergenerational trauma and how it all began and will end with the Grandmother.

This album its really deep, emotional and have so many things happening and takes time to proccess this whole experience and story, to me happened this way until before turning my favorite album of all time.

Sun Bleached Flies is probably my favorite off the album. The references and imagery to past motifs present in the prior tracks on the album is incredible. Gives me chills!

My experience with this album is the same that u describe in the end of the video, I listen to this sometimes, I really have to be in the mood but I love so much Preacher's Daugther, idk but this album transports me to another place and time, its like I’m seeing a movie in my head and I never feel this with another album, music or artist.

I’m normally annoyed by the “ugh, these songs are long,” (reminds me of when people complain about a movie being in black & white/is old,) BUT, in this instance, I actually agree, I kind of wish the end of “Thoroughfare” was an interlude. Atleast six of my Top 15 albums are concept albums, the most seminal of which in regards to the “genre” of the concept album is Pink Floyd’s The Wall. I feel that the line between the concept album and the rock opera is best described by comparing The Who’s Tommy & Pink Floyd’s The Wall. (The other four being The Mars Volta, Frances The Mute; The Killers, Sam’s Town; Cursive, The Ugly Organ; Circle Takes The Square, As The Roots Undo.) It is unfortunate that it really feels like you need to be making a concept album, whether conceptual or narrative, in order to make an album that is more than just a collection of songs these days 😕
