How wonderful to go back and remember this special moment I experienced 45 years ago when I got to not only hear this, but actually be in the choir and sing this with her. I was 15 and in the choir with my mom, sister, brother and uncle. Incredible experience to see it again and remember!
What an adventure! :D Thank you for sharing this memory, and thank you to you and your family for lifting up your voices so beautifully in praise of God! I don't know if any of your family are still around but if they are: tell them an English lady in France in 2022 thanks them! ❤️
I absolutely loved Ethel singing this! I used to do an impersonation of her over WMBI in Chicago back in 1970. If you know of anyone who’s been raped and is going to have an abortion, remind them that Ethel’s Mother was raped. If she had the abortion we would never have had Ethel.
My grandmother was a hillbilly from Va, devout christian, and prayer warrior for my Lord, The Christ, Jesus of Nazareth!! She was quite literally, "The Constant Gardener". She was undoubtedly the piller and cornerstone of my family indeed! We grew up as Pentecostal Christians. She just loved loved loved Jesus! 70yo woman carrying buckets o water, digging holes, tending to 6 acres o land in the country alone, 5 children and 10 grands. She used to whistle while she worked n praised God. Eye on the sparrow was her favorite. Ethel Waters reminds me so much of my grandmother. I'm thankful to have so happened across her music .
Tears of joy began flooding my eyes as Ethel faithfully served her precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in song: both 1956 and 1975 performances of this wonderful song: His Eye is on the sparrow. May God bless your ministry.
Like seriously, how sad today what's happening to the body of Christ who are after His things more than being after Him. I love how she says at the end, I see you in heaven.
What a privilege and honor to listen to this wonderful LADY sing. The first time I ever heard this song, I was only 5 yrs. and it affected me so much, that I cried. I'm now 67 and still know all the words to this song. Sometimes I even sing it while doing housework around the house. I've heard many, many songs over the yrs. but I'll always remember the words to this song and will never tire of listening to it!!
My Patrick was stillborn in 1994, and I made this HIS song.. first thing that came to my mind when I finally saw him hours later, and it stuck.. but now it is VERY hard to listen to. Though this is amazingly beautiful...as was precious sister Ethel...Now Home with the Lord, singling to Him!
Oh that we ALLLLLL would experience and know The Love of The Lord Jesus in this beautiful, expressive way! Such JOY, such LOVE of and FOR Him…..what a Blessing this is to me this morning. What SHE has- is what I want! :-) Let His Love and LIGHT Shine through us just like this! :-) Praise You, Lord Jesus- and I can hardly wait to see this Sister in Heaven and give her a big thank you HUG! (She say’s “See you in Heaven” at the very end, Amen!)
As a little girl I read a book about Ms Ethel Waters by Ms Twila Knaack (His Eye Is On The Sparrow). Its so great to actually watch her via this video!
Wow, this is beautiful, how peaceful this sounds to the ears, It feels so good listening to this Have always loved her songs What do you admire most about her?
I have her two books telling of her childhood and rough, rough life in Chester. PA and Philadelphia. (Kater and South Streets). My husband and I lived right in that same area for 4 yrs. (1963-1967) while he was in his residency at Jefferson Hospital. It must have been quite the neighborhood during her childhood. I love how she closes by saying, "See you in Heaven. I'll be lookin' for you.". That will be a real thrill. Bless her heart. And thank YOU so much for posting this. I had never heard her sing but had read her first book maybe 40+ yrs ago and wept through it. More recently found her second book.
Thank you so much for posting this clip; it was gone for awhile on YT. This is one of many songs I played for my mom in 2017 after her massive stroke in what turned out to be her final two weeks of an amazing 99yr life. "I'll be lookin' for ya!"
I'm so glad you were able to play these songs to your Mommy. But can you imagine her joy when she slipped over to Heaven's home. And gets to hear Sister Ethel Waters. Praise God! What a thrill!!! I sang hymns to my Mommy too during her last hours (at 92 yrs). At the end she was lying with her eyes closed and her hands folded peacefully on her breast when her eyes suddenly flew open, her arms went up in praise as she gasped an amazing "OH!!!". And just as quietly she folded her hands again and was "Home" as well. It was an exclamation of AWE! I KNEW that she had seen a most glorious view! Of course, as I listen to the Near Death Experiences of those who've gone and come back, they only confirm her experience to me. She had spent 43 yrs in Mexico as a missionary- linguist, Bible translator, in a village of indigenous peoples...living in stone-age conditions for quite a few yrs. Bless you for telling about how your dear mother loved these songs/hymns of heavenly ASSURANCE.
God would light up the sanctuary & dramatically move people's hearts when my late wife sang this song. 14 months since she went to sing, clap, bow, dance, laugh, play, praise and worship our God and Savior face to face. Blessed Assurance! Peace
Today, the Lord was watching over my life. I was nearly hit by a car that ran the light on Moroa Ave while I was eastbound on McKinley Ave. I was pretty shook up, but I thanked the Lord for some time. I thank God for people like Ethel Waters. I saw her years ago at a Billy Graham Crusade! Back in 1962.
It blesses my heart to see another Fresno area neighbor making a comment here. I'm thanking our Father with you for keeping you safe. Writing from Clovis.
I dearly love love this dear soul and so love listening to her sing this favorite song... brings it alive!!!! Thank you Jesus for watching over me... Wow.. can't get any better than that!!!
I come back to this recording throughout the year and it's still such a blessing and joy-full reminder of what I'm living for. For Him, through Him, thanks to Him. And my heart swells and floats up in my rib cage fuelled by that Joy. Happiness is a fleeting emotion, but His Joy is a sustaining life force. Even amidst fear for my life, crippling pain, and cultural milestones passing me by one after another, this song - and her interpretation of it - bring me back to the essentials: in all of creation I'm just a simple plain sparrow, a nobody with nothing special. And the One who can create galaxies out of nothing, and speak to storms, and create beings with a conscience and a will of their own, wants to be there for lil ol' me. And commune and share, and take delight in my small accomplishments, and sing together. There is no other like my God. May I be found faithful all the days of my life, and I will have lived a full life all from this bed I call home. He's so good and patient, and forgiving and funny too! Maybe being a sparrow has been a huge gift after all.
What a wonderful testimony! God's Love, Words, and Faithfulness really does produce a Joy that never fails! We pray everyone will long for it, come to the Savior in repentant faith, and learn as you have shared with others, the OVERCOMING LOVE OF JESUS! God Bless You🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for your precious message....as I sit here in tears. I don't know of any other belief system in the world that provides such an intimate experience of a Love so far beyond and above human 'love.' As Paul says in Ephesians 3:18- 20. "... that we may be able to comprehend what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height, and TO KNOW what is the Love of Christ which passeth knowledge, that we may BE FILLED WITH ALL THE FULLNESS OF GOD.... Him that is able to do EXCEEDING ABUNDANTLY, ABOVE ALL that we ask or think, ACCDG TO the Power that workers in us!!!" That is so awesome, so overwhelming...and WE are to share HIS kind of Love, HIS UNCONDITIONAL APPROVAL!!! Not of our ungodly behaviors, but OF US. Period. Yet, even those, He's got covered, totally blotted out. Not in HIS awareness at all. GLORY! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, FATHER DEAR.

@@yes_no_maybe45 When someone claims to be of God, but furthers Satan's kingdom, MANY people should be opposing and exposing that person. It is not virtuous to defend evil. Who are you to judge me? Do not judge my judging.
I’ve just been reading a very old little book by our beloved Corrie Ten Boom, now in heaven resting in peace, in which she mentions Ethel Waters and this song she shared with Corrie when she was crying about something and Ethel placed her arm around Corrie and gently sang this song over her. So I researched on Google and found this! Corrie Ten Boon’s book is called ‘He is more than able’ if this book is still available some where. But Ethel’s song is God-breathed!
Awww i absolutely luv it! My fav line , " I'm marvelin for em" Followed by the chior of 1000 beautiful children. Surely, there's gotta be an angel or 10,000 singing behind us. Glory glory glory to God Almighty! Thank you so much Ethal for lighting my life. Hope to meet u one day sister, beyond the gates. Maybe u can sing ur beautful song to me as i walk thru onto victory. Praise praise praise Jesus Christ!
CANT WATCH IT ENOUGH. THE ANOINTING OF THE PRECIOUS HOLY SPIRIT ON ETHEL IS SO STRONG. SHE SINGS STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART. YES MY SISTER...SEE YE IN HEAVEN. GLORY HALLELUJAH AMEN.
Hahahalololol. Woo hoo! I laugh when I'm happy. Thank God I'm one of those little bitty sparrows. Just a dog that desired the crumbs that fell from the masters table. WORTHY IS THE LAMB THAT WAS SLAIN.
