I am am a member of Ethiopian Orthodx Christian and I would like to bring some points. If one noticed many of Ethiopian traditional church paintings very carefully, you will notice a peculiar features unlike any other. They are painted often with black, white, blue, yellow, red, and green colours. The interiors of the church's are painted that way. Those colours have a meaning which is the covinent in the form of a rainbow God almighty gave to Noha not to destroy the world with another water. This brings me to my second point why Ethiopians claim they are keepers of the Gods promise. The answer is because we teach and practice God's rules both from the old and new testament not in rethoric but in practice. Example, Ethiopian orthodox church unlike other church's keep the good old musical instruments known ever since King David, She every day remembers Gods promise to us through Noah and show it through her colours, AND OF COURSE she is the keeper of the original Arc of the Covenant between God and man (through mossess). Where as the most important thing is the name of God is praised and the church opend its doors for its children's every single day for 24 hours all over its tens of thousands church's and monstrosities. This is in order of our lord Jesus Christ " You shouldn't restrict my children's from coming to me("Me" = My temple, to my heart?)" As we all are children of God, what ever our situation, we are welcomed to march to God's house. Coming back to the paintings those paintings have a deep meaning in them. For example, when ever painting, the face of angels or saints should face to the front with both eyes and ears to the front. Those of davil often seen half or part of the face. Which have a meaning by itself for instance devil shows you part of its face which is attractive but its other face is hidden in a dark where as no matter ugly or deprived truth will show its entire face forward. This brings me why we see white looking saints in Ethiopian church's. Those are not basically Ethiopian paintings they are duplicated pictures by a machine. The time and cost of painting with the original Ethiopian way costs a lot of time and takes longer which many church's in rural area can't afford. Our church stick to its original purpose on the spiritual context. But I agree on the point that if we could pay or motivate the artists who paint with the original way, we are not just making a business for them but we are crucially preserving the good old painting methods as a heritage for the feuture generation. See you soon at Timket!

We were not under Egypt patriarch . we have our own Patriarch starting from the Fourth Century and We are Same church with Egyptians Orthodox Church .but , I know that our Church Used to take a bishop from Egypt .
Egyptians were one of the first Christians. Mentioned many times in the new testament. For example, the holy family fled to Egypt according to the gospel. Coptic, Egyptian Christians have never gone away. Egypt was majority christian, before Islam came to the country and most converted over the following centuries, but not everyone converted. Today Coptic Christianity is the second largest religion in Egypt. I'm not sure about the exact number without researching before, but you could do that yourself. Coptic Christians today make up from 10 to 20%± of all Egyptians. And before you post such an ignorant and disrespectful comment, you could just look up the topic, like "Coptic Christianity" on Wikipedia or something. No offense. This is just my humble advice and I didn't mean to be impolite. Did I answer your question?
🙄I humbly ask, why is the first introduction to the interior of this magnificent structure, we see an Ethiopian priest sitting under a painting that's reflecting an European "saviour, " is that a contradiction to the overall message of Ethiopians having the oldest Christian churches?
Our Lord is the Saviour of the world! We accept and appreciate the various traditions of iconography regardless of their ethnic background! Our Lord saved the Europeans just like the Africans and Indians and Chinese and Americans, so if a European man paints an icon of his Saviour how can I tell him he's wrong to paint Him looking like himself
