I've watched it all. It's Funny how a simple work trip turned out to be something amazing and very memorable. I really enjoyed the series. You guys did a great job.
Dave no disrespect, I saw some comments the other day I wanted to address. Tracy you are beautiful, and a beautiful person. I see people talk because they want to be you. So don’t worry about what they say:.. We got your back 💯 keep doing you, Much Love:.. to the both of you
As a Kenyan, I always knew Ethiopia had answers to many questions about History. I can tell this was just the tip of the Iceberg. One of the oldest Bibles is also in Ethiopia. So much to learn. Love Ethiopia.
King Lalibela and three angel build it that's just spiritual believes 40.000 Ethiopians build it under the zagwa dynasty and king lalibela play the major role by leading. Thank you guys i hope u guys will come back again.✌
I visited Lalibela 6 years ago. I met a woman there who had spent 12 days walking to Lalibela. I'm an Orthodox Christian myself and I was stunned. She walked for 12 days in a display of devotion and I whine about having to walk up 2 flights of stairs in my office building 🤣 Ethiopia is truly an amazing country. All Christians in particular should especially visit, but everyone should visit this beautiful country at least once.
Your efforts in bringing awareness to the Lalibela Church will undoubtedly play a vital role in fostering a greater understanding and appreciation of Ethiopia's rich heritage. Your contribution to the world of RU-vid is invaluable, and I am sincerely grateful for your outstanding work.
You all are wonderful. I appreciate your experience of this country and for sharing tips for everyone who is watching your video. Moreover, I am amazed by the level of respect for the country's culture, people, and overall situation. It shows that there are still visitors who appreciate and acknowledge the uniqueness of the place they are visiting. Thank you for setting an excellent example for visitors of the country.
After watching this video I feel ashamed that despite being an Ethiopian and staying in Addis for the last four months, I have never been there. Dave and Tracy, we want to thank you for enlightening, amusing, and inspiring usnwith your wonderful videos
Hi Dears, the amazing scenery, your way of embracing the Locals with skilled video editing abilities made this video one of its kind in expressing the Holy Land of Lalibela. You need to come back again whenever you can and explore Ethiopia 🇪🇹 in depth with its unique and diverse cultures and beautiful people!
Wooow! Easily one of the best ones you've done for me. So spiritual that place. That market, it was like going back in time man. And the shots of the two kids at 19.01.. soo beautiful. I enjoyed this one a lot.
@DaveMani THANK YOU FOR SHOWING AFRICA IN A POSTIVE WAY, I really appreciated. One of your commentor(@yabilo1) gave a wrong information about African civilizations. All Ethiopian historical sites as they built by "foreigners." Ethiopia is ancient nation dating back to 3000 years. There was a gold time in history where inhabitant of this nation advanced in knowledge and architectural technologies. As you witnessed in Addis museum they had their own way of manuscript, currency, and civilization. As any ancient civilization or kingdoms they have goodies and drawbacks, they conquered and ruled huge territories, built good castles, churches , cemeteries..etc. and on other hand they were not democrat, they may abuse people living in newly conquered areas and there was also enslavement. This could be seen ancient Egyptian, Babilon, Mesopotamian, Persian and in ancient Ethiopians too. Over centuries due to internal and external factors all those ancient civilization and advancement gone, now the citizens of this nation fighting to survive , poverty rooted it's ground and conflicts are everywhere. We don't see Ancient Egypt power in our time, same for Greece, same for Roman, Same for Syria, Same for Mali. so it will be same for current Ethiopia too. Claim for "foreigners built those whole churches" is a false narration which come out of "inferiority mentality and people of color couldn't do anything by themself" thought. You guys are amazing If you plan to visit Ethiopia again, visiting the Gheralta Mountains, Abuna Yemata Church, and Axum in the northern part of Ethiopia’s Tigray region is very rewarding.
Amazing amazing vlog. How the Ethiopians built those churches is definitely intriguing just like it was with the building of the Taj Mahal in India and also the Egyptian pyramids. what a vlog!!. Kenyans do not require visa to enter Ethiopia. How I wish many would know this and visit this beautiful country to see amazing stuff. I also note that you guys did feature some of the international brand hotels in Addis that are quite expensive but, the good news is that there are a number of other 3 stars hotels near Piassa in Addis, which are very modern, nice and affordable from $20 per night.
@himm.. @Douglas: what made you think that these rock-hewn churches were built by the actual Ethiopians?? HINT#1: just about all notable structures in Abyssinia/Ethiopia have been built by foreigners [Yemeni Arabs, Syrians, Byzantine/Greek monks, Ottoman Turks, Portuguese & even Portuguese-hired Gujarati Indian stonemasons, etc.]. For example, the famous Gondar Castle/Palaces were built by Portuguese & Gujarati Indian architects in the 16th century [1500s]. These foreign builders were hired by an Ethiopian warlord-cum-emperor all the way from the Portuguese enclave/colony of 'Goa', located south of the Indian city of Mumbai/Bombay. These Portuguese architects brought with them the well-known Gujarati/Indian stonemasons & carpenters who helped build the mentioned castles/palaces, the first stone+cement bridge on the Blue Nile river, many churches, etc. These foreign builders - like many others before them - were commissioned/hired by an Abyssinian/Ethiopian warlord-cum-emperor who happen to be the biggest slave trader in Ethiopia. PS: guess how all those foreign builders, stonemasons & carpenters were paid by Ethiopian emperors or kings throughout its long history? HINT#2: by exporting slaves to the Arab & Islamic worlds, to Persia, India, Indonesia, etc, on a massive scale! ALSO, in modern times most notable structures in Ethiopia have been built - and continue to be built - by the Italians & the Chinese. AND, how do modern-day Ethiopians pay the Chinese to build the new stuff?? Ahaaa! Do you want a HINT#3 on this last aspect? SMILE. Bye.
@@yaballo1 How I wish that we could travel back in time to discover who and how some of these intriguing structures were constructed in Ethiopia, Egypt and Sudan. I read the Old Testament in the Book of Esther 1, 1-2 that King Xerxes also referred to Ahasuerus ruled 127 provinces from India to Ethiopia between 459 B.C to 465 B.C. This if true, plus what you narrate above goes to show that the world has always been a global village.
@@dwamburu1 - yes, most things were built with the involvement of various communities &/or cultures. But, note too the enormous cost in human suffering it took to build the old stuff we admire today as tourists, etc. Now, the dark & sad legacy of the millennia-old & massive slave trade from the Horn of Africa [Abyssinia/Ethiopia] is still being felt in Ethiopia today. Many of the never-ending inter-tribal feuds & bloody wars in Ethiopia are BOTH a continuation & the effects of the mentioned human sufferings that fed & sustained some of the oldest slaves-trading & domestic slaves-owning systems in Africa & the World. As well as the mentioned export trade in slaves, Abyssinia/Ethiopia also had a very extensive domestic slave trade & slaves-owning/using systems on farms ["gebbars" or serfs], etc. This awful economic system lasted till as recent as the 1974 G.C. when a military coup d'état ended-up deposing the ancient Abyssinian/Ethiopian feudal system & its royal dynasty whose last head was Emperor Haile Selassie [Ras Tafari Mekonin]'. THAT IS: unfortunately, there are lots of very dark stories that are YET to be told about Ethiopia & the rest of black or sub-Saharan Africa. Africans have NOT even started telling their own history in earnest. Thanks & bye.
@@yaballo1 That is a pure hatred! You cannot bring a single written evidence for your false claim! The truth i am speaking may contradict with the lie you are living, see any fool can criticize, condemn and complain… and most do!
@@fikirkiflu9365 - what false claim? Here are some references for you: BOOK BY: Pankhurst, Richard (1982 - NOTE: this is by far the best known & respected historian on things Abyssinia/Ethiopia. OK?). 'History Of Ethiopian Towns. p. 109'. Hi , I hope you will come again to visit the Gonder castles, Aksum, Harar , the semien mountains, the danakl depression, bahirdar and more. I get sad that you leave too early
The church area is big and the construction very interesting. That was an interesting story about the firewood. The market is a very busy place. The symbolic tomb of Jesus, Wow! That is a unique feature. The guide was very polite. In fact everybody there is very polite. Ethiopia has so much history and is beautiful. It is true, the landscapes are out of the world that we are use to. Keep up the discoveries.
I saw your videos on tik tok randomly now im big fan of your travel adventure. i hope you will return to ethiopia and explore other parts of the country. I would like to thank you for showing my beloved ethiopia to the world.
This is absolutely phenomenal 😊 Thank you for taking the time to create such a fantastic video and for sharing your adventures with the world. On the other note, the original name of the city prior to the Emperor Lalibela (name came for the one who the bees recognized his rule in local dialect) was Roha. Where does the Tikeze river originates in Lalibela near the monasteries like to represent the Jordan river and or Guihon were Israel monarchs had near Zion mount to bring water to the holy city of Jerusalem. Indeed, Lalibela was to become New Jerusalem according to the Emperor that started building it in the 12th century.
Both of you are very nice & down to earth, visit a poor country you only focus on the positive side & the place you went to visit respecting the culture and the people. I did enjoy watching all of it. Thanks for visiting & sharing 🙏🏽💕
Great video as always! Amazing history! .... A little fun personal fact, I am such a big Dave Mani fan that my 9 year old son gave me a personalized Dave Mani "Merch"... It was a Father's Day coaster with him and I sitting on the couch together watching Dave Mani!!

The only way to God is through Jesus Christ. “Without shedding of blood there is no remission for sins the central theme of the whole Bible is the shedding of blood for the atonement of sin.“ JESUS CHRIST HAS PAID FOR ALL YOUR SINS BY HIS PRECIOUS BLOOD. All you need to do is to believe in His finished work. Leviticus 17:11 (KJV) For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul. Romans 10:9-10 (KJV) That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Ephesians 2:8-9 (KJV) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Lalibela was one of the cleaning company I worked before here in Qatrar, now I understand where they got this name from coz our manager was ethiopian😊 amazing 👍
Ethiopia is different because both high and low elevations are their If u want to see the world lowest elevation place that can people live is also found in Ethiopia which is called DANAKIL OR DALOL 👌
such kinds of videos made me to believe that ancient Ethiopians are the one built the Egyptian pyramid from the book i red. the time where Egyptian peoples were black before the Arabs came to the land of Egypt and the Ethiopian empire was big upto yemen.
Your videos are catchy, I never miss a single second of them, I’m just curious about how long it takes you to do such awesome editing & The video quality is the main attraction of this video. This is my favorite channel that I like to watch on TV.i wish you start ur own show on Ethiopian mainstream television channel so much fun and discover with you guys Feeling so inspired and positive after this video, thanks! Much love from addis ababa, Ethiopia 🇪🇹
@@jhonywalker1168 its actually safer than many regions. The war is totally over since December. But nobody has gone apart from those from the region due to fear.
Tourists are not expected to cover up their hairs according to the church administration here but they are not allowed to wear shorts, chew gum or drink water inside the churches
Thank you for taking us on this virtual journey and allowing us to immerse ourselves in the rich cultural heritage of these historic sites. Your attention to detail, storytelling, and cinematography skills are top-notch, making us feel like we're right there alongside you, witnessing the beauty and significance of these places firsthand.
I've been waiting for this video! This is so interesting, and thank you for sharing this video! I noticed you didn't seem to have problems using your larger camera here as you did in Addis (except that you had to pay extra to enter the churches with it). Is that correct? Have people been OK with you filming using your larger camera in Omo Valley and Lalibela? Is it just Addis where you've had the problem?
Yes and no, the bigger the camera the more people ask question and fill intimidated by it. It also makes you a target as well when you walk around with expensive gear in any major city around the world or tourist attraction. Something to keep in mind too is that law enforcement does NOT like cameras in Ethiopia especially so they might ask questions too and tell you to stop filming sometimes. Im just used to it loll.
This is actually one of my bucket list places and thank you so much for the video and information. I am myself an Orthodox Christian and would love to see their traditions and buying honey like that , omg , love it! Thanks again guys :)
I am so glad you visited Ethiopia! My husband and I (US citizens) lived in Ethiopia for 5 years. We love the culture, history and people. We now live in Kenya. Love these episodes!
I visited Lalibela last year in Sep by myself and stayed at the same hotel, and I was the only guest checked in. No Wifi, internet, tv, phone but it was safe and I still keep in touch with my driver.
I also reckon there is church where it is said (I don't know how factual) that the ark of the covenant is kept and no one access it except for one man.
The ark of the covenant is at Mt. Kenya which is the true Mt. Zion. It was removed out of the St. Mary of Zion church and brought to KiriNyaga by our 12 Anjiru seers. Kenya was part of the greater Ethiopian empire, even the Boranas know this. The Amharas who currently occupy those areas in Ethiopia pushed us out of Lalibella, Abyssinia and Axum. Know your history, MuGikuyu.
What is it about Ethiopian hotels and accommodation?...... Is it that they don't try enough, don't care enough, or is it that their lack of understanding of details is simply a cultural thing? For example, the bottom of the hatch door leading to your bathroom below in your treehouse, simply has nails protruding (although bent backwards) as though aesthetics don't matter (as seen @ 1:15). This is not normal for the industry. They really need to up their game.
